Mickelson hangs in there

It was a rollercoaster second round for Phil Mickelson but it ended with a relatively mundane 1-under 71, good enough to keep him within striking distance of leader Rickie Fowler heading into the final 36 holes at Muirfield Village.

“It was a frustrating day for me,” Mickelson said, “because I played very well and didn’t shoot the number I thought I should.”

Mickelson is 6 under for the tournament, seven shots off the record-tying pace set by Fowler. But only seven players are between Mickelson and the lead, which means he still has a decent shot at his first Memorial Tournament win.

That’s provided that he goes low Saturday. Mickelson was already thinking of a target score.

“Mid‑60s,” he said. “Anything mid‑60s would be good. I was thinking that today, 66 or lower is going to be a good score. It’s true, though. I know you’re still giggling, but it’s true.”

Mickelson opened with a bogey Friday, but then put together a birdie-birdie-eagle streak that moved him to 8 under at that point. But he then bogeyed three of the next six holes. He followed another bogey at the par-3 16th with consecutive birdies to end his round.

“Good way to end,” Mickelson said, “I’ve got a lot of work to make up tomorrow. I’ve got to go low tomorrow. But it’s out there.”

You bet! I’ve never been watching golf game withour Phil in the field. He’s the Thril.
Putting followed, it should have been his day. But, third round will be another one, to be sure. That’s why I am rooting for him from far away in Seoul, Korea than our compatriat, like KJ Choi, YE Yang. Go and get that #1 spot.

Go get him today Phil and I wish the golf channel would spend more time with the people who are playing well instead of constantly portraying TW he no longer has the karma that Phil and the others due and cease the constant commercials

Phil is the greatest. He’s such a thrill I get ulcers worrying if he’s going to make the cut. Can’t watch w/out him in the field. Go Phil Go

Phil may be world #2 but he is always #1 in my heart because he promotes the game of golf better and I love the way he smiles and appreciates fans around him. I do hope Phil will take over #1 spot real soon. He deserve it.

That’s right! Phil is the only player who understands what an autograph and some of his time means for the funs! On top of that the kind of player he is! It wont be other like him who can play the game like he does and still dedicate so much time to the funs!!!

One correction, he is not even close to #1 in many people’s hearts. Mickelson, and pretty much all big tour players, portray one image to the public and are often quite different in reality. Tiger got caught big-time. Phil has been revealed before and probably will again. Unfortunately, from what I’ve seen he is near the bottom in my heart (even Tiger is still higher!). I’ve learned to admire these players for their golf and not pretend we know anything about them … or their karma.
