IRVING, Texas – Jason Day enjoyed his four days last year at TPC Four Seasons Resort when he won his first career TOUR event. But on Thursday, he didn’t have as much fun.
Day shot a 2-over 72 that included four bogeys and one double bogey, and leaves him needing to play well in Friday’s second round just to make the cut at the HP Byron Nelson Championship.
The Australian bogeyed three of his first six holes, including a three-putt from 18 feet at the par-4 11th (Day started his round off the 10th tee).. He did mix in a couple of birdies and made the turn at 1-over 36.
After he followed a bogey at the sixth with consecutive birdies at hole Nos. 7 and 8, Day was even par going into his final hole of the day and seemed to have plenty of momentum. But his approach shot found the water than runs down the left side of the hole, and he missed a 3-foot, 3-inch putt for bogey.
Last year, Day opened with a 66 en route to his win.
