NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. — This is just the second tournament Steve Williams has worked for Adam Scott since Tiger Woods has been recovering from injury.

In their first tournament together, Scott missed the cut at the U.S. Open. Thursday at Aronimink, Scott shot a 4-under 66 to share the lead.

“I’ve learned some things off Steve, and he obviously knows how to manage his way around the golf course with all the people that he’s caddied for over the years,” Scott said. “He’s got a wealth of knowledge, and I’m trying to tap as much of that as I can while he’s on the bag certainly.”

Most of those years, at least the recent ones, Williams has been on Woods’  bag. He’s caddied for him in 13 of the 14 major championships Woods has won. With Woods still recovering from knee and Achilles injuries, however, Scott asked Williams if he wouldn’t mind carrying his bag until Woods was healthy again.

“You know, he’s getting there,” Scott joked. “He’s kind of getting the hang of it, yeah, now three rounds in, he might have a future one day, this guy (smiling).”

If Woods misses the British Open, it’s likely Williams would remain on the bag for Scott.

”He’s very confident in himself, but I felt like at the U.S. Open he certainly guided me around that first round very nicely and put me in all the right places and kept it very simple,” Scott continued. “It seems like he manages himself around the course like a really good golfer would, and that’s obviously nice because he understands how to get it around.”

  • Jason

These two seem to be hitting it off as predicted and can see them pairing up until the USPGA.

  • richieg

At what point does Tiger say enough is enough with Stevie/Adam? When does he start getting HIS game in order?

  • Hao

SCOT IS A CHOKER, IF WILLIAMS COULD PLAY ALL THE TOUCH SHOTS FOR HIM [NERVE SHOTS],THEN HE’D BE UP WITH THE BEST,TAKE AWAY THE LONG HANDLE AND SEE HOW GOOD HE IS.

  • Mike

    HEY HAO HOLE,

LEAVE THE COMMENTS TO THE PEOPLE WHO KNOW WHAT THEIR TALKING ABOUT. YOU OBVEIOUSLY NEVER PLAYED GOLF.

  • jimmy

Wood’s won’t be back for another couple of months… As the commentators today mentioned, it’s gonna be an issue for Adam/Steve when Adam wins a few tourneys (and even the British Open) with Steve on the bag. I mean, as much as I like Tiger, it is getting quite obvious he’s a “has been”…

  • Al from Australia

Adam Scott is a very good golfer, however
his final round in tournaments leaves a
    lot to be desired.
Although he has won many tournaments in
the United States and around the world,
at the age of 31 he has been a non
    achiever in terms of majors.

  • Hao

yes mike/, i don’t know nothing,so you please educate me . when leading a players championship by a couple of shots with 1 hole to play , in the middle of the fairway wedge in hand ,and you put it in the drink ,i presume that’s pretty smart ,another time playing final hole 1 in front of appelby middle of fairway in the drink again, but saved by appelby doing the same, your right it must be a secret ploy to put your opposition off , if that was me i would hit on green 2 put collect trophy go home.

  • KeenGolfer

Hao hao hao,,,,i wonder how many tournaments you have won ??

I would back Scott any day against you.

If Adam Scott could putt ( stats dont lie ) , he would have double tournament wins he has today. And for a 31 year old , he already has a fair few. Hence the broomstick. Why not give it a go ? thats the Aussie spirit.
    Go Adam !

  • simmo

Hao – uneed to check scott’s tournament wins before making those ill informed comments. TW, he did win the Players with a superb recovery on 72nd hole, nailing winning putt under pressure. How about his win in Qatar a fewyears back when he had chance to shoot 59 in final round with opp for eagle on last hole but went for birdie instead to secure win – smart play. 2nd in Masters this year ??? Not bad.

  • Hao

i know he won / he put his second in the drink, left of green , took a penalty ,at front of green ,hit a terrible chip about 12-14 feet and jagged the put , ”very impressive” even i could do it in better style.

  • Benny

HAO – wow you are either a chopper that thinks the game is so simple or a good player that has his foot so far up his arse. Adam Scott has struggled with consistency (short game a large part of this) but is one of the best ball strikers on tour. And even with your so called “chokes”, he has managed to win. When you are standing in position to win a PGA tour event, (not your local B grade stableford)i would love to see you hit that shot to the middle of the green and 2 putt. Adam has had a very successful career and has a lot more wins to come!

  • Hao

BENNY MAYBE YOU COULD NAME A FEW TOP 10 WORLD RANKED PLAYER’S WHO HAVE DONE THE SAME IN SUCH A BIG TOUR EVENT, BUT DON’T FORGET , WEDGE IN HAND, WATER LEFT OF GREEN 2 SHOT LEAD.NOT VAN DE VELT PLEASE.

    Tiger who??!! ;)

  • seff

Cripes are we sensitive. I am a keen follower of Oz golf and AS been a disappointment. Soo much talent and so little to show. Now maybe he did silly things (surfing injuries, etc) or maybe he concentrated on business interests rather than getting his golf pedigree first, but he has not achieved as well as expected. It is not much use saying, “if only he could putt”. The lesser tours are full of pros who dont have a complete game. It is all about the number on the card.

  • KeenGolfer

19 Professional wins worldwide and over $50M in prizemoney is not a disappointment for a 31 year old. The disappointment is that we have not seen majors as yet from Adam. His putting is inconsistent , its his achilles heel. Hoping the broomstick can help his game to the next level. Early signs are encouraging. Augusta was a good test.

  • Brian

I think AS has been a disappointment because he has been for the most part a non-factor in majors. Hope the Masters was a portent of things to come. I like it when a Rich Beem wins a major and it’s understandable that the occassional Monty will not win one. But guys like KJ Choi, Garcia, Luke Donald, these guys have pretty solid careers and I’m always pleased when a top 10-20 player deservedly picks up a major win. With his Masters showing, maybe Scott can put up some decent finishes in the majors and win one. I didn’t know Scott has 19 wins world wide or anywhere near it. Wow!

  • Josh

adam has one of the nicest swings ever….he hits it so good…..but the putter holds him back…always has…and it looks like its not getting any better…..time to ditch that long putter mate….maybe go Garrigus style and use the mini…?LOL

  • jim

    GO HAO

  • greg

    Hao is ass hole.
I would like to see him perform under pressure in a PGA Tour Event. He wouldn,t make the cut.
He is really making whichever country he is from look real.

Somebody please sh**t him dead that dumb ***, I’m thinking of a gioutine or an ax.
Glad I got that off my chest.

  • hao

hey greg /. i never seen this comment before, whats with the somebody [why not you ]? dont you have any nuts or maybe no nerves like scott.
