NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. — The course record set by Chris Kirk? It lasted less than hour, thanks to Nick Watney who bettered it by one with a 8-under 62 Saturday.
Watney’s round was nothing short of spectacular as he closed in 27 with six birdies and an eagle on the back nine at Aronimink, which has seen the course record matched, broken and broken again today.
As a result, Watney is now tied for the lead at 9 under with Rickie Fowler, who is 6 under through his first 12 holes here in the third round.
Steve Marino also matched the previous course record with a 63, but that lasted all of about 5 minutes with Watney finishing right behind him.
“It was nice while it lasted,” Marino said.
LOOKS LIKE ALL THE SOOKS GOT THERE WAY, BUT ASK YOUR/SELF’S IS THIS THE REASON WHY ? EUROPEANS ARE BEATING THE CRAP OUT OF USE /. TARGET GOLF AGAIN. HAVE A LOOK AT WHAT TYPE OF COURSE THEY ARE PLAYING ON ACROSS THE POND IN PREP FOR THE OPEN. YOU GUYS WOULD’NT WAKE UP IF HIT IN HEAD WITH BRICK/.
Awww.. europeans are finally bragging. personally, I don’t care which side of the pond is better.
I do care when people start bragging that one side is better than the other.
How do you know european courses are tougher then US courses and vise versa
GREG/ FIRST OF ALL I’M NOT EUROPEAN ,[AUSSIE] SECOND I DIDN’T SAY ANYONE WAS BETTER, I’M POINTING OUT WHY YANKS ARE NOT WINNING BIG TOURNAMENTS BECAUSE THE PEOPLE WHO RUN THE SHOW CAN’T SEEM TO DO IT. THIRDLY THEY DON’T PLAY TARGET GOLF OVER THERE ,IT’S NOT DIFFICULT TO WORK OUT WHY THERE TOUGHER COURSES , JUST DO WHAT I DO [WATCH IT] CHEER’S KEV.
Looks like “the boys”
are getting used to
keeping it below the
hole on this antiquated
Ross course….
None the less,
it should be a great
finish, aye?
Close the Deal Rickey!
Hao needs to shout to get his point across….Typical Aussie!
Hao, you watch when Nick steps on all the euro’s throats at the open.
i hope he plays well for you mate , but i have a feeling he likes the easier courses with good conditions ,similar to rory.
I was dismayed by the interview with Bubba Watson after missing the cut in France. He was acting like a weak, pampered wussie.
The US players need to harden the F up and that isn’t going to happen in the US.
Palmer traveled. Nicklaus traveled. Hogan, Jones, all traveled.
They were hardened and competitive.
Go hide at home, Bubba. Wah, wah!
TO RAIDERSTEVE.
I totally agree with you in
everything you said. It was SPOT ON.
Well, you can say there courses are harder but thats more about the weather and setup. How many times outside of Carnoustie 99, still known as a bigger disaster than Shinnecock or any other major in a long time, has an Open finished where the US Open finishes? US Open winning scores like -3, E, +3, +5, +6, +6..but your courses are harder because…what? I will agree a lot of Americans can only hit the ball way, don’t know how to play wind golf as well, etc., but, I will tell you this…Europes favorite boy right now, Rory, is NOT a great wind player at all coming from Europe where they are supposed to just naturally be great in the wind, as if you are supposed to be magically great in the wind because you grew up in Texas (absurd). Also, Rory couldn’t move the ball left to right if his life or a major championship depended on it. And if it wasn’t so soft at this last…um..Pseudo-US Open..Rory’s drives would have bounded and rolled through the fairways (if they weren’t wider than most us open fairways too) and his iron shots would have one bounced through the greens…unfortunately, this wasnt a US Open..
As far as RaiderSteve who knows nothing. Nicklaus barely ever traveled. Get a clue. And he was the most hardened and competitive. Palmer hardened and competitive? Why? Because he had a tan and smoked? This guy had a gut for more than half of his wins and barely worked on his game. The guys from back then were not hardened, they were not competitive. There was about 8 of them. It’s not hard for the 2 or 3 best to take home all the trophies when there is only a few of you and from that number only 1 in 20 of you really have any talent. I could dominate in a sport that shallow too. Way to go Nicklaus! LOL. I guess Nelson should be better though, with those 12 in a row and 18 in one year. Who cares about the competition and that all the real men were fighting in WWII? Who cares?! I say Nelson is better. Why bring logic and fact into this? Byron Nelson, best golfer ever!
Well, Nick, congratulations on your course record!! Seems like the comments on this story turmed into Euro vs. USA, too bad! I respect what you’ve done and I’m proud of you. #5 in FEDEXCUP, #15 in world rankings, 1 win and 7 top 10′s this year! Keep up the good work!!!
