Notable Groups: Viking Classic

The tee times for this week’s Viking Classic have been released. Here’s a look at just a few of the notable groups for the first two rounds at Annandale:

Chez Reavie, Tommy Gainey, Brendon de Jonge: Reavie is among the hottest players on TOUR right now, having scored top-five finishes at the John Deere Classic and Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. Only a final-round 72 last week at TPC Deere Run prevented him from catching Steve Stricker. De Jonge played in the final group with Stricker and tied for seventh. Gainey brings a couple of third-place finishes from 2011 to Annandale this week. Only Reavie (2008 RBC Canadian Open) has won on TOUR.

Jason Bohn, Troy Matteson, Kenny Perry: All three players in this group are used to the heat. Bohn has lived in Georgia for years, Matteson is from Florida, and Perry is from southern Kentucky. Surprising stat? Perry has made just three cuts in 11 tries on the PGA TOUR in 2011. The culprit? He’s 186th in Strokes Gained – Putting.

Heath Slocum, Johnson Wagner, Bill Lunde: Slocum, the 2005 winner here, is playing with Wagner, who finished second at Annandale in 2007. Bill Lunde, the Kodak Challenge leader, has a good shot at extending his lead this week. The 532-yard 18th can easily be reached in two shots. For more on the Kodak Challenge, click here.

Will MacKenzie, D.J. Trahan, Cameron Beckman: This trio all won the Viking Classic once in the last 10 years. Beckman won in 2001, Trahan in 2006 and MacKenzie in 2008.

So, which groups are you most interested in following this week? Fill out the form below and let us know.
