Bill Haas is in the British Open this week, but he owned the Viking Classic (played opposite the British Open this year) the last three seasons. His win in 2010 capped a run of three consecutive top-fives at the Jack Nicklaus-designed course.
His keys to victory in 2010:
- At Annandale Golf Club, Haas had a solid tee game, averaging 329 yards while hitting 66 percent of the fairways (T-13th) for the week.
- On the greens, Haas gained over 5 ½ strokes on the field, with the putter ranking tied for eighth in strokes gained – putting (+1.447 strokes gained –putting per round). He also ranked tied for fourth in putts per green hit in regulation with an average of 1.679 (tied for fourth).
- Haas dominated the field on the opening nine holes of Annandale Golf Club, with a field-leading score of
10 under par (field average was -.48). He made a field leading 23 total birdies for the week.
- On the greens, he converted a field-leading six putts from beyond 25 feet and made a total of 375 feet of
putts for the week (94 feet of putts made per round – ninth most in the field).
- He outperformed the field by seven shots on the par-5s at Annandale Golf Club, with a total score of 10 under
par on the par-5s (the field average was 3 under).
