For John Daly, success doesn’t necessarily come in winning. At least it didn’t at the RBC Canadian Open, where he got his first top-10 finish since 2005 with a tie for ninth after a 72 on Sunday.
”It’s been a struggle,” Daly said of his last few years. “You cannot play good golf out here when you’re hurt.”
Daly said his groin bothered him this week but that overall everything felt pretty good. That’s especially true of the positives Daly will take from the week.
“Oh, a ton, a ton,” he said. “There’s no doubt about it. I love the way I chipped the last two days. Under the heat today, I know I was kind of out of it there with four or five holes to go. But I made one heck of a par on 15, 17 and 18.
“I got them down a lot today. Probably in the past I would have shot an 80 or 82 today.”
Instead, Daly played well enough to finish at even par for the week — something he’s done only three other times in 13 previous starts this season.
KEEP IT GOING JOHN WIN THAT PGA NEXT MONTH ON THE 20 YR ANNIVERSARY OF YOUR FIRST PGA 91
I been waiting for John to have a good finish here. It seems like he gives himself a decent chance then throws in a round of 80 somewhere in the week. Congratulations to him and holding it together all 4 days!
It was a fantastic tournament for JD. His first of many top 10 finishes to come since 2005.
Nice way to grind it out J.D.
I believe he will contend a few more times before this season is over.
THAKS JOHN FOR PLAYING IN OUR OPEN ON A CONSISTENT BASIS AND GOOD LUCK IN THE FUTURE.
The Tour needs John Daly. He brings something other than the boring, no expression golfers that show up week to week. At least we have an idea what he’s feeling. Nice Job, John!
Good job, John!! You’re a unique player that the average Joe can relate to: charisma, natural golf talent, but more important to us, sincerity and honesty. You’re everyone fans favorite.
I always pull for John Daly…would love to see him win again. Keep pluggin away John, we love you.
John you gave me a reason for watching golf on Sunday, keep up the good work, you have long time fans outhere!!!

John, I always pull for you and would love to see you win again.
John, been pulling and watching you since Crooked Stick, 1991. With your talent it’s time for redemption and another couple majors.
Looks like JD is only about 200 points away from the Top 125 in Fed Ex points…would be way cool if he could squeeze into the playoffs. Keep working JD…plenty of folks pulling for you!!!
I myself have been sober since 3/7/07 .. wonder if he’s dried out!?
Great to see ya lost a ton of weight, too, John..

John,
Great to see you in the hunt on Sunday. Tough course, you played well, consistent, except for the triple on the 18th.
Keep at it, more top fives and tens the rest of this year. The Tour needs you….
Keep grinding and get inside the top 125 money man. Put together a few top 10′s down the stretch and you can make it. GL John!
Great to see you in the top 10,hope you do it often and earn your card.
You bring life to the tour along with a few others and Lord knows, all us arm chair guys need it.
Hi JD
It was a pleassure seeing you play that good on a very difficult golf course.
I sometimes give up on you, because of the many high scores you do have after 2 good rounds.
Please stay possitive, because you can do it.
Looking forward to this week.
Hank
im a canadian and i was pulling for jd.
and darn near everyone i know was.
with your good driving and excellent touch around
the greens.
good putting also.
to quote seger
come back jd golfing never forgets
It’s amazing that John’s maintained such popularity through the years despite such poor performance. Even among his fellow competitors, he’s still someone they root for.
I’m happy for your fine finish, John. Good for you!
Great to see you getting it together. I’m checking for your name every week to see if your in the field. You made it worth watching on Sunday. Always pulling for you!
Congrats to Mr. Billboard, the guy who will do about anything to make a buck. Nice to see him actually justify the tons of sponsors exemptions he has received over the last few years. However, he has yet to put together 4 good rounds in one week without one blowup in who knows how long. This tourney it was the smooth 7 for a triple boggie in round 2. We’ll just call him Mr. 179th on the money list and leave it at that.
John, I was so fired up looking at all the good things you were doing this week, that I followed every shot you hit oh shot tracker. It was great to see you finish in the top ten. I feel you have a lot more of those left in you, so keep up the good work. I would love to see you back in the top 125. Hit u’m down the middle.
I fail to understand why this idiot is supposedly so popular. Is it because he got lucky twice over 15 years ago or because he’s an ‘everyman’? The amateur Patrick Cantlay’s had more top 25 finishes in 6 weeks than Daly’s had in 6 years so that tells you his current playing ability despite his finish this past week. If you’d watched his latest Golf Channel show you’d realize what a immature, whiny, ‘it’s not my fault’ kind of person he is. Begging for sponsor exemptions and then bad-mouthing tournaments that don’t give him one shows how little class he has and the sooner he disappears back to the trailer park the better.
That’s what it’s all about brother!
John daly is truly one of my favs, we as fans need him. we also need to see him even if he shoots an 85, don’t just show him when he’s on top of the leader board!!! I want to know where he’s at all of the time….thank you. go jd..
keep up the good work john. a win will really give golf a badly needed shot in the ass.
that meaning a good thing, please make no mistake about that. whats not to like about john. he’s real—go john
Great job John, i’m always in your corner and always will be. Just a good ole boy, we all know you will win again. And after last week it may be sooner rather than later. Never give up. You’re the reason I watch golf on TV. When you’re not in the hunt i don’t watch. The original bomber.
Nice to see you playing well again JD, hope to see you in the winner’s circle again real soon. You still have a lot of game, you are by far the fan favourite every week you play, you have allot of people in your corner cheering for you. GOD bless and play well at the Greenbrier Classic this week, I’ll be looking for your name at the top…
