You expect to see a bevy of major winners at an event like the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, which invites the top-ranked players from around the globe.
But another PGA TOUR event this week, the Reno-Tahoe Open, also has a significant number of major champions in its field.
Ten players who will tee it up at Montreux Golf & Country Club have won major titles, including two each by John Daly, Lee Janzen and Jose Maria Olazabal.
In all those 10 players have accumulated a total of 13 majors.
Meanwhile, in the field at Bridgestone this week, 18 players, including the three who have won majors this year (Charl Schwartzel, Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke) have won a combined 39 majors.
But take out the top two on that list — Tiger Woods’ 14 majors and Phil Mickelson’s four — and the other 16 have combined to win 21 majors.
When it comes to major credibility, the Reno-Tahoe Open has a surprisingly stout resume.
