A week ago, Jason Dufner squandered a four-shot lead with four holes to play in the PGA Championship. His final-round collapse at Atlanta Athletic Club joins a long list of major mishaps, but he tried to put it out of his mind quickly.
“It’s probably a good thing to play this week and get last week out of my system,” Dufner said. “I was glad to see Thursday come.”
And with good reason. Dufner opened with a 4-under 66 at Sedgefield to sit just three strokes off the lead.
He also got plenty of support from fans after his epic collapse a week ago.
”The fan support has been real good,” said Dufner, who earlier in the week got a chance to meet with the football team at his alma mater, Auburn. “There’s usually not that many people following me on a Thursday.”
As for what he learned from last week that he hopes will help him this week and beyond: “I’m just trying to be patient. It was a tough stretch coming in…keep grinding and stay patient because you never know what can happen in this game of golf.”
Jason Dufner is a class act. He can win tournaments and majors. keep believing Jason.
