NORTON, Mass. — Luke Donald couldn’t be too disappointed.
The Englishman was one of six different players to own the lead at TPC Boston on Monday during the final round of the Deutsche Bank Championship. He just struggled on the back nine again, seeing his advantage evaporate with a double bogey at the 12th hole, and Donald ended up in a tie for third.
With his 11th top-10 finish of the season, though, Donald will head home to Chicago still ranked No. 5 in the FedExCup standings. He’ll be one of the favorites to pick up his second win of the season at the BMW Championship next week.
"I played really well," Donald said. "I struggled to score on the back nine all week, and that was obviously the difference this week. But even the shots on 12 and 16, I executed them like I wanted to. Just got a hot one on 12, and still to this moment I don’t know what happened on 16. I was staring that shot down. I thought it was perfect. I hit a 7-iron about 182 into the wind over the green.
"I hit good shots, but they weren’t to be."
Donald, who broke a five-year victory drought earlier this year in Tucson, played the front nine at TPC Boston in 15 under and the back nine in 2 over. The world No. 1 was solid tee to green at TPC Boston, ranking tied for 19th in fairways hit and 47th in greens in regulation while his 106 putts left him tied for third in that category.
"It was tough out there, especially today," Donald said. "I think it was swirling a lot. As I said, you can only control kind of the line and the strike, and I did that both pretty well on those shots. But unfortunately they both sailed over the green."
Luke was 15 under on the front 9 all week….good enough to be in a playoff. Pity he played the back 9 in 2 over all week. 4 birdies on the back 9 all week wont get it done.
Yep,but he’s young and talented and can come back strong!!He might even get the Cup!!
Only 2 comments? How soon we forget that Luke the Duke was #1!!!!!!!But he’s not out of it.He’s #4 and he’ll get it done!!!
I see Donald is continuing the form that made him number 1, consistently not winning.
Ben Paulsen……nobody has won more than him this year.
THE PROBLEM ISACTUALLY LOGICLY VERY VERY SIMPEL
If Im thinking how to play ishockey while trying to typewrite a letter to Golf magazin it will make two diffent messages in the brain crush and neither of them will come out good. Its like standing over a ditch and cannot make up ones mind if to step over to one or the otherside thus one will fall into to the ditch.
So therefor one cannot let the mind think of enything else than positiv giving energie to do what makes the best action for,in this case, hitting the golf ball.
Other wice its like pushing the gas pedal and the break pedal at the same time.So it gonna become a disaster of a boggie or worce. So to worrie IS OF NO HELP ITS JUST destroy the present expected action. One should “just” always try to hit ones best golf hit no matter what the circumstances are.To succed doing that is the beauty of playing and as well training. One cannot try to keep the door open and at the same time try to keep it looked. So oneh as to have a clear command in the brain exactly what one would like to perform and in what moode as well.Take full charge. To live int the future when the play is in the present must create by all logic some chaotic conditions of concentrations. The positiv thinking means one learns to take the situation in the way it INSPIRE ONE TO ACT MOST POSSITIVLY ACCORDING TO ONES DESIRE.BE FREE LIVE YOUR LIFE NOW OTHERWICE WHEN WILL BE NOW TO LIVE?
