Second round start delayed by fog
UPDATE III: We’re now up to 2 hours, 20 minutes with another 10 minutes added to the fog delay here at CordeValle. That pushes the start time for the second round to 12:30 p.m. ET. On the upside, the forecast once the fog clears is spectacular with sunshine and a high around 72 degrees.
UPDATE II: Another 10 minutes was just slapped on the two-hour delay, bringing the total to 2 hours, 10 minutes. Fog is still thick on much of the golf course, though, so don’t be surprised if it gets extended again.
UPDATE I: With heavy fog still swallowing the golf course, the delay has now been extended to two hours. That means the group of Tiger Woods, Louis Oosthuizen and Patrick Cantlay will now tee off at 12:40 p.m. ET. It also means the second round won’t finish today with the last tee time now bumped back to 6:20 p.m. ET.
The second round of the Frys.com Open was originally scheduled to begin at 10:10 a.m. ET (7:10 a.m. local time) but foggy conditions at CordeValle Golf Club led to several delays.

Yes, Scott, there was a clear need to mention Tiger’s name! You might be oblivious to the facts, but when tiger plays attendance doubles or triples. When Tiger is on TV, ratings go up in multiples. You can say what you want about him, but regardless of his play he is the biggest draw in all of sports, hands down. People can claim to hate him or bag on him all they want, but the truth is that the world wants tiger woods…there is no way to even debate that. Look at the ratings and attendance records. It isn’t even debatable. & don’t hate on me, save your ridiculous comments. I’m not defending his actions or his golf right now…I am simply stating a fact that the world still oozes tiger woods!

shirley – actually, I didn’t check this site for Woods, I checked this site to see when Chris Baryla, Matt McQuillan, and David Hearn are teeing off. You can’t help but watch tiger when that is all the show on the Golf Channel. I would say it will be nice to watch golf this afternoon because Tiger won’t be on the course but they will still show every shot he made two or three times throughout the telecast.

I am a golf fan – I even watch the European Tour on the Golf Channel and play – although badly. As the fall sets in though other sports come into play such as the NFL but if Tiger is playing Saturday and Sunday I will be watching golf not football or hockey or NASCAR
I quit watching much golf when Tiger was winning all the time. Now I’m addicted to watching again. Love when he’s not in the field, and love when he is in and getting spanked. I’ll be honest, I just don’t like the guy.

In response to everyone that always complains about Tiger being mentioned in every aspect of Golf media. DO YOU HONESTLY EXPECT THEM TO NOT MENTION ARGUABLY THE BEST GOLFER OF ALL TIME IN A REPORT? I mean come on, stop complaining. Chances are, if it wasn’t for Tiger you wouldn’t even be watching golf. Stop complaining, if golf is on, Tiger will be mentioned. That’s just how it goes.
jasper – enough with the excuses….tiger himself isn’t even making excuses for his poor play so stop doing it for him. He putter and drove poorly yesterday, plan and simple. If he gets the putter going today he could easily shoot a 69 or 68. The cut line is probably going to move closer to -1 before the day is over so Tiger will need every bit of that 68 to play the weekend.

Cody – I know where Tiger is, if he doesn’t improve he’ll miss the cut. It use to be unheard of for him to miss the cut but now its happening a lot more. I’m not a Tiger hater by any means. He is a huge attraction. I like a gamble on the golf and there is great value now that Tiger is not winning every tournament he enters. This week I’m shouting for Hunter Haas @50s was a nice price. Personally, I watch golf regardless of the fact that Tiger is playing or isn’t playing…but I’m more likely to watch if he is. Ask any of the “Young golfers” on tour who their favorite golfer was growing up, I bet it was Tiger.

Usually the better players are the ones who hit those shots Scott. Usually when a group of good players play in the same group together, the chances of them making one of those shots you talk about goes up.
And they show highlights of those shots anyway.

Actually the Golf Channel ordered the fog in…1 hour later start means they can get live coverage of tiger’s group for at least 90 more minutes since they come on at Noon local time. TV controls weather, didn’t you know?

Sure I checked the site this morning to see what time Tiger is teeing off, but he doesn’t hold quite as much fascination for me as he seems to for Scott. This will be my only post.
Tune in for Tiger, stay for Cantley, is how I see it.
Tiger was priceless to watch during his dominant days, much like watching the 49ers during that stretch when they won 5 Super Bowls.
I still enjoy watching him, but no longer watch the 49ers.
Might not have been necessary to mention when Tiger’s round starts after giving the delay time. However, they want to give people reason to check back and tune in as soon as possible.
And whether you like or dislike Tiger, a lot of people will watch even the lowest rated tournament when he is in the field. Remember, that was true for Arnie, Jack, and Norman also.
And viewership translates into dollars so I hope he makes it to the weekend and increases the number of viewers.
tc – I will admit he has had some impact on purses but not nearly what you think. The winner of the Bob Hope in 1980 won $50,000.00. The winner of the same tournament in 1995 won $216,000. The winner of the same tournament this year won $900,000.00. So between 1980 and 1995 there was a 432% increase in the money to the winner. From 1995 to 2011 there was a 416% increase in money to the winner. By your logic Tiger has actually lowered purses and therefore the golf world would be better off without tiger and the players would be making even more money without him. Greedy guy that Tiger….trying to keep purses artificially lower by playing golf.

That question just illustrates some of the real thickness of some of these posters…Tiger raised the turnout of this tournament by 500% over last year…that may not be enough to connect the dots for some…A LOT of people are interested in Tiger in this tournament…when A LOT of people are interested….you keep them updated.

Tiger Was the greatest golfer of our generation, but that was until 2009, until he proves he deserves the spotlight I don’t think it’s fair to have such a biased TV coverage. It really discourages the real golf fan to watch Golf on TV. In the end the networks are shooting themselves in the foot.
But again, aside from the real h@ter$, most people who complain are not complaining about Tiger, they are complaining about the lazy coverage and reporting that focuses only on Tiger no matter how well or bad he’s playing.
Yes, I want to know when Tiger plays because I only watch golf when Tiger plays.

Tiger has had a brilliant career and is one of the all time if not the the best to ever play the game. I realize Tiger is a terrific draw but there are other good golfers in each tournament also!! They should also get a lot more exposure on T.V. Let me begin with … I love to see excellence in any sport or actually anything. I’m a 7 Hdcp so I’ve played better than most that arn’t pros. Tigers displayed such excellence and on such a consistent basis that golfer and non-golfer around the world became fanatics about watching him play … including myself and many of the heroes of golfs’ past. Just the fact that he has less cuts in his career than many golfer average per year is amazing.
Contrary to what I’m hearing here is the fact that the cameras don’t really follow him anywhere nearly as much as they used to. They’re many new talents displaying skills like the Tiger of old now and when Tiger is not playing well you may not see him for several holes in a row. ( which I agree with when he’s not breaking par ) It is horrific the God like status the media and his fans … pre 2009 made of Tiger… all dynasties fall and it will be the comeback story of the whole history of golf when Tiger wins again, especially his next major win. The man was an addict … he fell … he sought help … he got help … he paid dearly for his addiction … forgive him… give him a chance … he’s not saying he did nothing wrong here, he’s just trying to survive the terrible things his errant choices have brought into his life… I pray that Tiger can return to the ideals and diciplines that gave us some of the greatest golf man will ever see … and once again play his best. If Rory or Ricky or any one of a dozen young talented golfers can take him down when he is at his best… so be it. The would be great to see the kind of golf they will have to play … Go Tiger, Go Golf

If the delay is any longer they will have to shorten the tourney to 54 holes – they’ll have to make that call if they don’t play any golf by 12 noon

Scott was annoyed with the golf channel (not Tiger) and PGA (again not Tiger) for overemphasizing 1 player to the detriment of others. By only mentioning Tiger, they put him on a pedestal over others. If they had also mentioned the tee times of the leaders, probably no one would have cared.
Besides, losers love to attack winners. Doing so helps them forget they are losers, but we see it. Go Tiger!!!!

It would be nice to see TW come back. Everybody likes a comeback. BUT, I don’t feel TW is attacking the problem with the right angle:
He comes back and says he wants a W. Period. “I come to win”. It only shows that he wants it all back. First, that is too much pressure for anyone. Secondly, it is impossible. Thirdly, and most importantly, he has to know that he is not the one in control, it is the Golf Course.
I have learned that you have to be modest and try to be welcomed by the Golf Course. You do not tame the Golf Course. You have to be in sync with the course and for that you cannot get in there and be arrogant with it stating that you are going to get a W.
Be modest. Be simple. Enjoy playing.
Aim the cut. Then top 30. Then top 10. Then maybe a W. Do not make W your goal… it will not come that fast.

Those great shots you mention, back in the day few were able to hit shots ppl were amzed to see, thanks to tigers work ethic and working out everyone followed suit, now the yougins after TW can hit freakishly long and amazing shots from everywhere! to Question … World Golf Rankings are based on Two Years of a players skills, so I’d suggest give him two years … the 2012 and 2013 seasons, If he’s not a top 10 in the world golfer, then hes on the downside just like all the other greats like Vijay, Ernie, Gossen, Love, Phil … etc He’s almost back to 0 in ranking points, it’s going to take awhile before comparing him to the top player by that standard is realistic.

I dunno question, how is Jack recognized?? When Jack was out there being carted around missig cuts terribly, do/did ppl talk about that or what he once did? Stop seeing Tiger differently than the other greats! Tiger has had less bad rounds in his entire career as some of the greats in half that time!

Tiger’s game follows the trend that is the ebb and flow of things good and bad. As all golfers know, we have our peaks and valleys in this difficult game of golf that we love. He’s no exception! However I do believe in the number 3 and this will be his third time to return to his former prowess in the golfing world. The third time is a charm and he’ll get the majors record.

He’ll be at 2.43 points by 11/6/2011, right before his appearance at the Aus-Open. That would put him at No62 in the World Rankings based on today’s points. But you can imagine some of the guys playing the fall season will improve a couple of positions, plus some EuroTour players may improve as well, so Tiger may effectively be out of the top 64 and miss the chance to participate in some of the World Golf Championships.
I would like to see more reports covering this subject and not only the lazy reporting that he’s out of the top 50 for the first time in years. Not because I wish Tiger to do bad, but because it helps the golf fan be more educated about Tiger real chances.
I wish Tiger plays the best he can this week, but he’s got to realize that there’s a lot more riding this week than just playing to get fit for the Presidents cup.
