Fan throws hot dog at Woods

SAN MARTIN, Calif. — In a bizarre incident Sunday at CordeValle, a fan was arrested for running toward the seventh green at CordeValle and tossing a hot dog in the direction of Tiger Woods as he attempted to putt.
The 31-year-old man dropped to the ground and was accosted by Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputies as they and tournament security closed in on him. Woods barely noticed the incident before going on to two-putt for par.
"Some guy just came running on the green, and he had a hot dog, and evidently … I don’t know how he tried to throw it, but I was kind of focusing on my putt when he started yelling," Woods said. “Next thing I know, he laid on the ground, and looked like he wanted to be arrested because he … put his hands behind his back and turned his head."
The man was charged with disturbing the peace, according to Sgt. Jose Cardoza, who added the man would not be identified or taken to jail because the offense was a misdemeanor. Cardoza added the man was from Santa Rosa and that he did not appear to be intoxicated but did admit to having a beer earlier in the day.
"He was very cooperative," said Cardoza, who said the man claims he wasn’t throwing the hot dog at Woods but rather into the air. "They said, ‘Why did you do this?’ He just shook his head in guilt or remorse. He didn’t give a reason why he did it."
Arjun Atwal, who played with Woods, was concerned at the sight of a fan yelling out Woods’ name and moving toward the green.
"They could have shot him," Atwal said. "The cops could have thought it was something else."
Woods said he never felt threatened because the man, who was about 40 feet from Woods, didn’t get close to him.
“He was pretty far away from me, and you know, when he started making the commotion and the gallery started to kind of get into it, I could hear the security behind me, I was still bent over my putt,” Woods said. “And when I looked up the hot dog was already in the air.”

Was accosted by the police??? Maybe they should have just let him get next to Woods. If this happened in Texas the guy should be lucky he’s still breathing.
LMAO as usual something that is absolutely nothing is blown way out of proportion. Sure, the guy shouldn’t have thrown something…but a hot dog??? Good God! It’s not like it was a coin or something that could be potentially dangerous. And he gets arrested for it? He should have just been thrown out of the Premises. To be honest, the man was only arrested because it was TIGER WOODS involved and not some other player.
What a numbskull! Just let the golfers play their game and let us fans enjoy it or maybe he just needs to handle his beer better!

He will not win a Major ever again, his play this week (finishing Tied for 30th in a middle order field) leads me to believe Tiger Woods won’t win a major even more. Far too many wayward drives, too many bogeys, something he used to eliminate in his pomp, too many rounds where he goes 3,4, under par and drops back to 2 under par as he did yesterday and today before finishing with a late birdie.
Let the young kids have their turn, it’s their time to shine. Don’t keep the spot light on Tiger Woods when he is having average to poor finishes most weeks out there now.
Well done to Rickie Fowler for having his First Professional Win out there in Korea today. The PGA Tour are putting precisely too much pressure on this kid’s young shoulders. They keep showing that he’s failed to make the top 30 for 2 years in a row like he’s a seasoned professional expected to be there. He has only been out on TOUR for 2 years now and will definately win numerous times in the future. Just let the kid play instead of putting him under too much pressure if he blows a lead or has a meltdown on a Sunday, he is very young and still learning in every tournament he plays.
Out of curiosity Sean, why do you say he should have thrown a banana? Is that some sort of inside racist comment? Also why would you say it is over blown? Tiger is one of the worlds most recognized athelets and jealousy goes a long way. Anything could have happend and how could anyone know what the guy had under his shirt or behind his back? Yes it was a hotdog but it could have been a lot worse. I think the police should have whipped his *** and taught him a lesson. Throw something at me and see what happens, regardless of the circumstances.
What an enthralling Play-Off between Briny Baird and Bryce Molder by the way. On the 5th hole in a play off playing terrific golf. See, you don’t have to be “household names” to put on a good show. These 2 guys are trying their hearts out. You can see the pressure is getting to them right now with at least 2 chances for each of the 2 players to win it. Good luck to them both.

@ fc yes I did notice that too. molder was very fortunate to win today, he was so lucky to have a shot in that hazard on 18 in the play-off and briny baird had a horrible break hitting the pin. had he missed the pin, the ball would have spun back to 1 foot for the win. the only crime briny baird commited was he was too accurate with his iron shot.
i wonder if the pga tour look back at what you said fc .. i hope nothing happens though because both players fought with their hearts.

Just to note; I was always a fan of Tiger Woods game, I never did like him (as a human being) even 10 years ago. He doesn’t open up in interviews or spend enough time signing autographs for the fans, the people that pay Tiger Wood’s wages. Without the fans the PGA TOUR, European Tour or any other professional tour is nothing. His questions in interviews are pre-scripted, the only player that does this. So big-headed of the guy. And for Tiger Woods to cheat on Elin Nordgren and with so many women because he’s rich, well this lowered my opnion of the guy even more. I dont understand why he still has so many fans in The United States after what he did to his wife, his children, his mother, and his late Father.

The PGA TOUR are making a bigger deal out of a Hot dog getting thrown at Tiger Woods than they made when Jim Furyk won his US Open, in 2003 I think it was, and that Streaker ran up behind him, weird.

From now on I can see that everytime Tiger plays, there will be several attempts like the one we saw today. And the more they repeat, the worst Tiger’s mental shape is going to be.

fc, you are allowed to tap down, fix or flatten old ball marks in your line through the hole. You are not allowed to do that with spike marks. Do you really believe a pro with the tournament on the line doesn’t know the difference?
I think anyone who pays for a ticket to any event has no business causing any disruption…if they choose to then be prepare for whatever the consequences are. If I tookmy kid to a golf tournament and they heckled someone, they’d go straight home and be grounded for about 2 weeks…@seansmith is a clear picture of what is wrong with our society…he’s thinks this crap is OK.

The real shame here is that the fan didn’t get close enough for Tiger to beat the living s### out of him. Tiger is 6’1″ and built like an NFL DB. He’d beat the crap out of that idiot. In fact, Sean…why don’t you do that at the next event and see what happens to you???

@ idiots like Sean smith. Tiger woods is one of the greatest golfers in the game and has a god given talent. No one knows what else he is going to win unless you can see the future. Besides he is a competitor and will find a way to win a major or tournament in the near future. I’m not a huge fan of the guy but I love watching

It was good for Tiger to make the cut, but I was surprised to see that his T30 at the Frys.com didn’t earn him any points.
So this must have been a tournament with a weaker than expected field.
According to the OWGR, this tournament only earned 24 points to the winner, but Molder earned a lot more than that; A full card through 2013, a visit to the Masters, and the one invitation that Tiger doesn’t have at this moment, the chance to play at the HSBC Champions World Golf Championship the first week of November.
Rickie Fowler, on the other hand, won this week and earned 26 OWGR points. If a T30 gave Tiger this much coverage with a weaker field, why isn’t Rickie getting at least 1/3 of the coverage?
