LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Webb Simpson and Luke Donald won’t have to keep an eye on each other from afar on Sunday during the final round of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic. They’ll be playing together for the fourth straight day.
The two men who are vying for the PGA TOUR money title worked their way up the leaderboard during the third round at the Magnolia. Simpson, who ranks No. 1, will start the final round at 10 under after his 69 while Donald is one stroke behind after a 70.
Justin Leonard and Kevin Chappell own the lead at 14 under.
Their goal is the same — win the golf tournament – although Player of the Year might be an added bonus when it’s all over. There are several permutations that would allow Donald to overtake Simpson without the victory.
* If Donald wins, Simpson needs to finish solo second to win the Arnold Palmer Trophy.
* If Donald finishes solo second, Simpson needs to finish solo eighth or better to retain No. 1.
* If Donald finishes in a two-way tie for second, Simpson needs a four-way tie for 21st or better to win the money title.
"It’s been good," Simpson said of the marquee pairing which on Saturday included Tom Pernice Jr. who is 11 under for the tournament.
"… We’re both trying to play our best and see if we can win the golf tournament. There’s been a little added pressure but I think we’ve both handled it ok."
Simpson had a lackluster front nine, making the turn 1 over, but he birdied four of his first six holes on the back to surge back into the picture. One of those came at the 14th hole where Donald made a double bogey and Simpson’s final birdie at No. 15 gave him the edge.
“It was good to finish with 4 under on the back,” Simpson said. “I knew we ere playing well. We just made a couple of mistakes we hadn’t made really this week at all, and it cost me a couple of sots. But other than that, it was a pretty good day.”
It is good to see young great players.
Wishing Webb a great round on Sunday! Wish he had kept tweeting. From a CCNC cart barn alum. Lol.

It looks like it is going to be a great finish to see who the Winner is this week.
If its Luke Donald or Webb Simpson, then they should also get the POY award also.
Golf has been great this year. I only predicted two Winners. I am surprised that Matt Kuchar didn’t win at least one Tournament.
I am looking forward to the President’s Cup series in November, then I will have to sit back and wait for Santa Claus to come in December.
Its going to be a long Winter waiting for the 2012 season to get under way. Hopefully, it will be as exciting as it was this year with the unknown Winners stepping up each week.
