Kokrak grabs share of the lead

DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. — Want to find Jason Kokrak at the Nationwide Tour Championship? Look for the crowd.

The rookie has “a solid 22, 23 people” here in Daniel Island this week, including family, friends and his high school golf coach.

“It’s nice to have that support out there,” he said. That support lifted him to a bogey-free 67 for a share of the lead at 10-under with Daniel Chopra.

By the time Kokrak was teeing off in the afternoon wave, Chopra was wrapping up his course-record 62.

“I didn’t know what he shot today; I knew he was at 10-under,” he said. “I’m a leaderboard watcher. I like to know how the course is playing, so if somebody gets out there and really goes low it can be because there’s less wind out there, but then it shows you how the course is playing. “

Despite the wind in the afternoon, it played pretty well for Kokrak. He hit 11 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens.

“I hit the driver a lot better today, put myself in the fairway,” he said. “I made a lot of good putts today and yesterday.”

Kokrak started the week ranked fourth on the money list and with his finish today, is projected to finish on top.  Regardless of what happens, he’s headed to the PGA TOUR in 2012.

“It’s nice just to be in this position,” he said, but added his goals have not changed. ” I entered this week like you enter every tournament: with the intent to win.”
