Brandt Snedeker underwent elective surgery on Tuesday afternoon in an effort to fix a degenerative issue in his right hip. He will not return to competition for six to eight weeks.
Snedeker, winner of The Heritage this spring, was competing in Asia last week when pain in his hip prompted him to the United States and consult with Dr. Marc Philippon. After the check-up, Snedeker decided to have surgery on his labrum.
The surgery was performed in Vail, Colo., at the Steadman Clinic. Philippon has operated on several athletes, including World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman.
“I am certainly disappointed I will not be able to fulfill some obligations I had ahead of me during the next few months,” Snedeker said. “However, I realize I needed to get this done now so that I can get back to competition for the 2012 season. Having this procedure is only going to help me in the long run.
“This will enhance my focus going forward as I try to win golf tournaments and compete in major championships. I am very confident my recovery will be complete and will help me with my mobility during the remainder of my career.”
The 31-year-old Snedeker posted seven top-10 finishes in 2011, including his second PGA TOUR win at Hilton Head. He finished eighth in the FedExCup.
Good luck Brandt! You are one of the good guys on Tour and deserve the best. Enjoy the Holidays with your family and rest up. I have a feeling next yr. will be even better than this one.
Heal well my friend! You gave us golf fans some great shots this past year and your success was well deserved.
I look forward to seeing you hoist a few cups on the 18th in 2012!
get well…come on back to nashville and watch vandy bball
Good decision to get this done now. Hope to see you strong and sharp at the HToC in January.
Nice to see someone actually getting surgery well BEFORE the season. It just baffles me when I hear of an NBA, MLB or NFL player getting surgery close to the regular season for an injury they had months ago.
Some good PT after the surgery will set Brandt up for a good 2012. All the best.
Good move Brandt
All the best from a big fan in Perth, Western Australia
Best Wishes for a speedy recovery, Brandt. I’m one of your biggest fans and look forward to seeing you back on tour.
Saw him profiled on the Golf Channel recently. What a nice down-to-earth guy; you just have to like him! Hopefully there will be more wins post-recovery, and perhaps a major such as the Masters where he was a solid 15th this year.
Best wishes Brandt for a speedy recovery. The PGA tour just isn’t the same without your smiling face. Enjoy your first holidays with your beautiful new baby girl. 2012 will be your year. Can’t wait to see back on the tour!!!!
Hip surgery at 31? That doesn’t bode well for the future for Brandt, and what a shame. Really like his step-up-and-hit-it approach, especially in putting.
Amazing the number of guys who develop physical problems from this non-contact sport. Just goes to show that a golf swing is not a natural motion, and repeated enough times is going to do some damage.
