Mark Rolfing? Why does he commentate at all on the Golf? I can’t understand a word he says.

I make this comment of course regarding Mark Rolfing’s ridiculous comment last season when talking about Andy Prodger, an Englishman born very close to where I’m living, who was KJ Choi’s Caddy at the time when Rolfing said “It’s always difficult to understand Andy at the best of time”. Absolutely ridiculous the guy is from ENGLAND and he speaks ENGLISH. As far as I’m aware Americans speak English too.

That is of course apart from the yee-haww, git r dun, friggin the riggin and fixin’ the dinner

The only English-speaking people on the planet who are universally understood are in the western section of the United States.

A person born and raised in the Phillippines, for example, will have a far easier time understanding the words of someone who was born and raised in Los Angeles, rather than someone from London.

I really like the broadcast crew. Gotta like Dan Hicks with his commentary on many different sports. Must be difficult to keep current and sound in-the-know about multiple sports. Anyone remember the 2008 Olympics, e.g.? But how could you not like Rolfing? Especially the moustache.

You should pick on the English for their vernacular as well. It is a lot more difficult to understand since it is mostly a collection of half-bitten phonemes and misplaced vowels.
Did you know “fourfh” comes after “fird”?

  • Dave

It depends on what part of the country, most English speaking countries have some very clear speakers, it’s just that usually in inner cities and rural areas that it sounds a bit strange.

  • Vin

Rolfing when did he have a mustash? Must be thinking McCord .

Note to PGA Tour: Please start streaming your events. Some people would pay for a package of having all tournaments streamed live. All the other major sports are streaming their events. Its time for the PGA to do it as well.

  • Paul

Steve stole my thunder, If the PGA is not going to begin streaming in the near future, please explain why. Golf is becoming the most popular sport in the world, exponentially, please please get with the program.

  • Jim

I agree w/ streaming events. Jim

Canadians and mid west Americans are more valued in China as teachers of English for the reason that they ” Have no accent”

The broadcast crew is terrific because they really like their jobs. Spend time with Hicks, Roberts, Maltbie, etc… and they get along great and really enjoy what they do….

I enjoy listening to Nick Faldo, but have never been a fan of Johnny Miller. He is way to critical of some of the players. When he is announcing I turn the sound down. Maybe some of Nick’s good humor will rub off on him. I will miss Kelly.
