Sabbatini suffers two-stroke penalty

KAPALUA, Hawaii – Rory Sabbatini suffered a two-stroke penalty prior to Saturday’s second round when he was late for his tee time.

Sabbatini was scheduled to start his round at 4:35 p.m. ET with partner Sean O’Hair. But he did not make it on time.

The two shots were assessed on his score on the par-4 opening hole. He took five strokes to play the hole but instead of a bogey, he suffered a triple bogey.

That left Sabbatini at 3 over for the tournament after shooting even-par 73 in Friday’s opening round.

    What an idiot

  • Adam

You might want to wait to get more information before you call someone you’ve never met or spoken to an “idiot”. People do have things happen sometimes. Somehow, “Jaybomb”, I’d bet that you’ve been late once or twice in your life

  • brownie

He is a professional golfer with managers, a caddy and various other handlers. Perhaps not an idiot but how about really stupid!!

  • Neil

Having only seen him at the canadian open I can only comment on what I saw. Almost hit a volunteer because he got impatient and did not wait for the groups in front to completely clear a reachable par 4. Snapped at some fans after a poor shot. There may be a very good reason for why he was late but he is definately an idiot.

  • Neal

With those ears you’d think he’d be able to hear his name being called…

  • ScienceGolfFanatic

    LOL

  • joanne Batson

    rude and crude!

  • Campo

Rory was probably late for his tee time because he was waiting in the line at the bank to give some more money to our American Troops. What is wrong with you people? Give the guy a break. He only seems like an A hole on TV. In person, he is just sorta tired of you people.

  • THE KING

I’ve met the bloke and he is a complete tosser. He is arrogant and a petulant spoilt brat who has little respect for his fellow players, fans and the etiquitte of the game. ITime and time again he speaks without thought for others and insults the people that try to support him and the game of golf. We can only hope he trult gets what he deserves this year

  • Dave

    no-one likes sabbatini.

  • Brads

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy! Most hated guy on tour! Although Duval and Joe Ogilvy tie for 2nd1111

  • dmc

u are correct BRADS,,,,but dd is much better now since he doesnt shoot in the 60s nowadays,,,,,humbled is the word i believe

  • Rick

Met him, played with him…really talented player but total head case.
Very much needs to mature and become an adult.
Represents the game of golf and therefore should be a role model!

  • Dave

    what is wrong with Duval?!

  • Thingguy19

Perhaps his ego was on time?

  • Steve

    A real jack wagon!

  • Bill

Too bad he wasn’t later and could have taken an early flight somewhere else. What a putz! If he never played again on the PGA we all would be better off. For someone who can walk ahead of his playing partner and finish a hole how could he ever be late?

  • Dave

i was never happier for Tiger to win when Sabbatini thought he was better than him.

  • belgianbeershrimper

I picked him in one and done !! Sigh
    Sums up my luck

  • Tom

    Personaly, I never liked Sabbatini.

  • sandbelt

    the trifecta is complete.

    1 casey
    2 sabbatini
    3 glover

  • paljoey

    Why wasn’t he disqualified?

  • Kenneth

That guy never seemed to bright anyways…

  • Rich

Spent four and a half hours with Rory in a pro am in northern cali…. he was a fun guy, treated everybody in the group with respect as well as fans and media. He was a very good player and even showed up on time. C’mon folks, ever been late for anything? Let’s not torch the guy you don’t really know or know why he was late.

  • Adam

Rich, I tried. It’s tough to convince the narrow-minded. People read a headline and make up their minds inside of 30 seconds. It’s ridiculous. The comments are being fired off as if these people actually know Rory beyond what they’ve seen on TV. The man is a solid player and almost all his controversies stem from incidents in which he tries to SPEED UP play. He was late for his tee time here, who cares?

  • enzo

to all you guys out there making nasty comments about Rory , i like to say and ask , is this all that you`s guys are good for ? to chriticize when the man in question is not in front of you , looking at eachother in the eyes ?

  • Jim

Bla Bla Bla to all of the negative commnents about Rory. Can anyone of you actually play golf and break par consistenly. If the answer is no, then you don’t qualify to make any negative comments, except: Bla Bla Bla!

  • Brads

Dave…What’s wrong with Duval? In the locker room, guys walk the other way when he walks by…he is despised because he is a pr*ck…He may have ate humble pie in the the last few years but the players don’t forget…..

  • Bill

Jim, by the way, yes I can break par and not on just my home club. The fact is that Rory needs to thank the ones that paved his golden path to riches and if he can’t show more respect to the game here, go home and play on that big tour. That’s it, they don’t want him there either!
