KAPALUA, Hawaii – Playing as a single in the first group of the final round, David Toms flew around the course in 2-1/2 hours, shooting his best round of the week, a 2-under 71.
That allowed him to have plenty of time to prepare for tonight’s BCS Championship game, with his beloved LSU Tigers facing SEC rival Alabama for the national championship.
Toms, decked out in appropriate school colors (purple shirt, yellow pants) said he would be watching the game with his wife and kids.
“Just going to get my family situated now,” Toms said after his round (he finished the tournament at 4 over). “I hope all goes well. If not, we’ll sit around and sulk the rest of the day.”
Toms said his parents, his sister and her husband, his wife’s parents and some close friends will all be at the football game at the Louisiana Superdome.
As far as a prediction?
“I never make those,” Toms said. “But I’m hoping we’ll have a little bit of the home advantage. Of course, their 40 percent can sound awfully loud.”
I wouldnt doubt he sucked all 3 days knowing that he would be the first player out on Monday (Lucas Glover hurt, hence there has to be a single) and could zip around the course this quick to get ready for the big game (There is DVR you know?). If so, what a pathetic reason to not give it your best effort. Toms is usually better than this….
With only 27 players in tourney, it wasnt liked he sucked.. so you think he lined up that 12 footer and said if i miss this ill have more timr to prep… j bone your as dumb as your moronic name…. geaux tigers
Thanks Jon, could not agree more. Toms is as fierce a competitor as there is on tour. He would be in the last group if he could be. Not on his game this tourney. GEAUX TIGERS!!! GO DAVID AT THE SONY LATER THIS WEEK!!!
J Bone, as one who as played with David and met his family, you’re way off base here. Just because he completed his round in 2.5 hrs does not mean he didn’t try. His tee time is WAY before kickoff so he doesn’t need to hurry. Good players can walk my 7100yd course in 2.5-3 hrs, but if I had to play with a hack like you, it would probably take five hours to walk
