HONOLULU – The tee times for the first two rounds of the Sony Open in Hawaii – the PGA TOUR’s first full-field event of the 2012 season – are now available. Click here for tee times.
Here’s a quick look at some of the notable threesomes in the first two rounds
Keegan Bradley/Stewart Cink/Vijay Singh – Three major winners, with Cink and Singh making their 2012 debuts and Bradley coming off a terrific ball-striking week at Kapalua
Webb Simpson/K.J. Choi/Ryo Ishikawa – Simpson and Choi both played well last week, and Ishikawa, the young Japanese star, will be one of the biggest draws this week
David Toms/Mark Wilson/Zach Johnson – Think these guys know how to play Waialae? Wilson won last year; Toms won in 2006; Johnson won in 2009
Steve Stricker/Sean O’Hair/Davis Love III – Only one player – Ernie Els in 2003 – has won the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and Sony Open in Hawaii on back-to-back weeks. Stricker will attempt to be the second.
Now it’s your turn — which threesomes interest you most this week?
If i had to..Webb Simpson/K.J. Choi/Ryo Ishikawa….Jan 26 can’t come soon enough.
I am waiting to see if Pat Perez can make a move again. I think he can contend with the best of them but he needs to slow down his everything by 15 to 20% aqd he will see results.
Nice group for Bradley…THREE MAJOR WINNERS!!!
Very Nice…
hopefully ishikawa does well.
THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE IS THIS CRAZY LIFE, AND THEN THERE’S STEVE STRICKER. A TRUE STAMP OF THE GREAT US OF A
It will benefit O’Hair and Love3 to play with Stricker. He has a good vibe.
Stricker will be nervous playing with Love and trying to make the Ryder Cup
I would love to see stricker maintain the good run and win back to back tournament, all the best steve :)
simpson choi isiwaka for me
stricker is the man. I was a videocamera operator for Tokyo Broadcasting System for Monday. Ryo Ishikawa on a Monday had a gallery of more than 300. I couldn’t believe it. The main draw was Shigeki Maruyama for the past how many years but he had only his sponsors following him. I believe because Ishikawa is ranked 51st in the world he is trying to get inside the top 50 to get into this year’s Masters. How would Panasonic ok him to play in the Sony? Also in the field and a great talent is Hideki Matsuyama an amateur who has won the Asian Amateur and is physically a better specimen than Ishikawa is automatically qualified for the 2012 Masters. THE ROAD TO THE MASTERS. This is the story line of the Japanese media who have come two-fold to the Sony Open. I think Webb Simpson (runner up to the FedEx Cup and K J Choi are wonderful players as pairings for Ishikawa for the first 2 rounds. It will be a circus trying to follow them and if Ishikawa should make the cut, it will be a further circus. Wonderful for the Sony even though Ishikawa’s main sponsor is Panasonic.
Man I cant wait for tomorrow, so many good new young talents and grizzled veterans. Im especially excited about Ted Potter and Webb Simpson. And of course a living legend who has always been one of my favorites, Vijay Singh. I wish luck to all of them of course. Have a good day!
A lot of fans might yawn at Toms, Zach and Wilson. Not me, three solid tee to green guys who will probably not get any air time unless one of them is hot. These guys have to be in top three to get on camera, especially with the major networks, TGC is a little better.
lets go O’hair! Thats a good pairing for him and will be fun to watch those three go real low
If Keegan plays the way he did last week and gets the putter on track he will be hoovering around the top of the leader board all week.
Always like to see Wilson do well. Seems like a very nice guy who has continually improved his game.
He and his wife have been very generous with their good fortune. Great family guy who, in interviews, seems to be just the most earnest and caring person.
Go Mark.
rl,
Stricker is a lock to make the Ryder Cup team. He’s the top ranked American in the World Rankings and is coming off a win. Doubt he will be nervous playing with Love III.
Noon tee time looks great. Sang-moon Bae won three times and had three runner-up finishes in Japan last year. Tommy Gainey had a solid rookie season, and Bud Cauley looks to follow suit. Hope they all do well.
GO JASON KOKRAK!!! Great to see you have made it to the big league, time to show everyone just how good you are!
David Toms/Mark Wilson/Zach Johnson…
What, they couldn’t squeeze Johnathan Byrd and Brian Gay into this group of short fairway splitters?
I agree with Joe. Keegan was just about best tte to green last week but only found his putter on the back 9 sunday. If he finds it early Thursday morning he could get off to a great start.
It would also be great to see Steve Marino get that first win. He seems to have flown under the radar this week, usually plays some great golf at this event. Don’t be surprised if this is his time, as he is a fantastically talented golfer if a bit inconsistent at times
Watch out for Bud Cauley, not just at the Sony but this year, sure to be a big win!
The group with Tiger. Oh, wait he’s not there!
Then, no group!
Pat Perez if anywhere near the top will implode. Bad attitude. Self destructive.
I’d be following the ground with 2Gloves and Cauley. Lots of birdies and I’m sure Bud’s dad will be out there providing the rest of the entertainment.
Go get em Gloves!
like the love, stricker, o hair combo
winner comes from this group
simpson/choi/ishikawa
runner-up for fedex cup last year &
korean hero & japanese rising star
what other groups can attract more attention than this one?
the winner comes from this group
and hopefully choi to win.
let’s go K.J!!!!!!!!!!
Chris Kirk is my dark horse this week. Played well last week, did well on his Sony debut last year.
Being a die hard Paul Goydos fan I’ll follow his group.I just don’t understand how they group the players. After all Paul has won this tournament.
there is only one tiger woods there is only one tiger woods walking along singing his song walking in the tiger wonderland !!!!!
