Tim Tebow could be headed to the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am once his season concludes, an official involved in the tournament has confirmed.

“There has been some discussion for a month or so between us and him,” Ollie Nutt, President and CEO of the Monterey Peninsula Foundation said Thursday. “There is definitely an interest [from both parties].”

Nutt confirmed that the tournament is holding a spot in the field for the Broncos quarterback, who grew up playing golf in the Jacksonville, Fla., area.

Two years ago, Tebow played a round with Phil Mickelson at nearby Timuquana Country Club the week of THE PLAYERS Championship and last year hosted the first annual Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic at TPC Sawgrass. Tebow also played in the pro-am of the St. Jude FedEx Classic last year.

“We’re down to the last couple of spots,” Nutt added. “There’s no hard, cast-in-stone date [for a decision] but with Tim still playing we probably won’t get his attention until that wraps up.”

There was also a report Thursday that should Tebow play, officials would like him to be partnered with Tiger Woods. Nutt, however, said that is not the case.

A more likely scenario will see Woods paired with Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, who is already committed to the tournament and has played with Woods before. Ryan Palmer, who lives in Dallas and is friends with Romo, confirmed as much as well, saying that Romo already told him that he is playing with Woods.

The Broncos play at the New England Patriots Saturday night in the second round of the NFL playoffs. Even if Denver were to go all the way to the Super Bowl, Tebow would still be able to play at Pebble Beach since the tournament doesn’t take place until the week after the Super Bowl. In 2004, that’s what Tom Brady did following the Patriots victory in Super Bowl XXXVIII.

  • Mike

Tebow with Tiger would be a hoot. Think there might be any lessons on the 7th commandement?

  • Scott

I’m sorry but I can’t stand this fascination with a tight end that is being confused for a quarterback…..can’t stand his bible thumping a$$

  • Brads

    Tebow playing with Woods
    Brady playing with Bradley

    Should be good…

  • ALLEN

Leave tebow with FIGJAM they would be suited together {both gooses} and keep ROMO with tiger.

  • ????

    BRADELY -3
    CINK EVEN
    VIJAY +1
$2-35 bradely in 3ball nice work.

  • Brads

Alice er Allen…don’t know what a figjam is?….It must take one to know one…you daft c*nt…

  • Brian

I’m all for all the Tebow hype…what a great role model!…I have 2 small children, and would rather them see Tebow getting all the publicity, then seeing Ray Lewis all over the tube and football promo’s…why is it that sports networks promote thugs, pot smokers, etc…??..I am not a religious person by any means, but I think it’s a breath of fresh air to promote someone like Tebow to the young kids who follow sports!!

  • scott b

other Scott….can’t see what’s wrong with a guy who expresses his beliefs. He seems pretty sincere, always gives credit to his teammates, thanks God win or lose, never gives up, understands there are more important things than football….considering all the self-absorbed, “me-first” guys in sports these days, he’s a breath of fresh air….AND he wins games whether it looks pretty or not. You need to lighten up…

  • Scott

The fact that he expresses his religious beliefs through the media is the exact reason why I have a problem with him. Its all fine and good because he is thanking God…which is funny because everyone knows God is a huge Green Bay Packers fan. But what if Tim Tebow were Muslim? How would American society react if during every interview, Tebow said “Insha’Allah” or “Allāhu Akbar” rather than thank his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ? Or instead of falling to one knee and praying, Tebow pulled out a prayer rug and faced Mecca?

  • Scott

Religion has no business in sport….if you want to thank who ever it is you pray to then do it in the locker room and away from the cameras.

  • Mike Miller

The only sure thing is that Tiger will get the partner(s) he wants.

  • Pat

I think Tim Tebow is the best thing that has happen to all sports in years. When this world ends and Tim is in Heaven looking at all you clowns in Hell who will have the last laugh. Tim keep praising our Heavenly Father.

  • eddy

Tebow and Tommy, 4 gloves, great pairing, a golfer with a baseball swing, a football player with a golf swing. 3 sports for the price of one.

  • Scott

Pat – Would you be saying the same thing if he was Muslim?

  • scott b

not sure why my comment is “awaiting moderation”…I’m pretty sure I didn’t say anything offensive..

  • Blind Chicken

I for one would find it quite off putting to have to play golf paired with someone with faith in something that is so logically inconsistent and so at odds with the observed realities of the earth and the universe as religion is. How could you relate to a 20 something year old who believes in the ancient equivalent of the easter bunny/loch ness monster/tooth fairy?

  • mike miller

where are my chickens? it’s bed time mommy….waaaaaaaaa

  • Scott

scott b – look over each word you typed. you may have said a$$ because you typed ma$$…or you might have said h0e because you typed sh0e

  • Mike Miller

A person’s religion, like their politics, should have no place here.

To Tebow’s supporters who want to play the religious card, just shut up! Nobody cares!

To religious nutters who want to contribute here, please either contribute about GOLF and keep your beliefs to yourselves! Nobody cares what your beliefs may be!

  • ALLEN

Brads you seem like a nice young christian man..lucky you dont play golf,as it would be so easy to put you off your game sweetie.

  • Doug

God Bless Tebow and all other good, decent people.

The rest of you are clueless.

[...] This post from PGATOUR.com’s Brian Wacker says that is not likely to occur: There was also a report [...]

  • mike miller

Doug, sorry there is no god. Therefore, Tebow will just have to take care of himself like the rest of us good decent people.

  • X24 hot

If you need religion to get you through life then so be it. Don’t push it on everyone else with your celebrity, and in that same light if you are going to be charitable just do it and be happy with yourself. Don’t parade it around for everyone to see. Are there really adults on here who believe that when we die we go to a magic place? And do those same people really believe that this “heaven” is a place where you look down on others, who are less fortunate, and laugh? It’s no wonder those people look to the “tebows” of the world as role models, because they are lost.

  • Steve

If you guys think Tebow is the next coming of Christ, you haven’t learned much from the Tiger Woods ordeal. Remember how most people thought Tiger was the perfect role model? How’d that work out for you? Never use an athlete as a role model. You will be disappointed every time.

  • Avid Golfer

[...] will continue. Tebow does play golf and could be interested in an invite to the Pro-Am at Pebble. Question is who will he pair with? Early rumors are that Tiger Woods needs to approve his golf mate and supposedly has already agreed [...]

  • Larry

I never heard Tebow, force his religous beliefs on anyone. The man is open with his religion. It’s everyone’s choice. Choose to believe or burn. Your choice!

  • X24 hot

Answer the question Larry, how would you feel if he was Muslim or for that matter what if he worshipped Satan would you give him the same latitude? Or is it only for the Christian god? Its all just a fairy tale to scare you into doing the right thing. Grow up, there’s no heaven, hell, devil, or god. Be a good person because it’s the right thing to do, not because you’re afraid of the boogieman’s judgement.

  • @ x24 hot

x24 hot…To acknowledge the fact that being a good person is the “right” thing to do…you are also rhetorically acknowledging the fact that there is “evil.” If there was no evil then there would be no good…your a religious man yourself just by making that statement. What I’m getting at is being an “atheist” and telling people there is no God is exactly the same as someone believing in God trying to convince everyone there is. You are placing burning coals on your head because we are being a hypocrite. Let Tebow and every other athlete with an amazing platform witness to what they believe in if they want to. They are forcing it on anyone else like you think they are…it’s still your choice what you believe in. But don’t go around telling people there is no God, heaven, hell, etc. You have no proof. There never will be any proof till the day of our Lord becaues it comes down to faith in the unseen.

  • @ x24 hot

you are being a hypocrite **

  • @ x24 hot

and they are not forcing it on anyone else like you think they are **

  • Scott

still can’t answer a simple question.

  • X24 hot

Yeah not sure I ever said there was no evil. I said religion is a fairy tale that you are brainwashed with from childhood. You could use any fairy tale to scare your own kids into being good. As far as I’m concerned the tooth fairy is just as legitimate as god. I have the same proof that both exist. We just tell our kids at some point that the tooth fairy doesn’t exist and that’s the only difference from the god fairy tale. Good and evil is mother nature. I’ve never understood why religious people get so upset about people saying god doesn’t exist. If you believe what’s the worry? Why bother responding? Your not getting my money.

  • MichaelC

what is funny to me is that neither Woods nor Tebow have ever nor will ever, express themselves like some of you have here. Not that they will be, but if they were paired together, they would have a good sporting time. They wouldn’t go through 18 holes telling each other what they didn’t like about one another…

  • X24 hot

That’s what’s great about golf. No matter how ridiculous your partner is, you just play your game.

  • GHam

@Scott and @ Mike, it is to bad that you can’t let go of what ever dislikes you have for someone you such appeal to so many people. He sure has captured the interest of 1000′s. When you get voted to most popular athelete by the fans, I think that says something. You are defentley in the minority here.

  • X24 hot

What does it say when you are voted most popular by fans? I think most fans are biased to a crazy extent. Living vicariously through the team or player. They really think that wearing that jersey with someone else’s name on it makes them part of the team. Serious delusion.

  • Scott

GHam – His heroic 4th quarter comebacks are great and that should be why he captures the hearts of people. When he spews off about religion then he looses me. He can have his beliefs…if he needs to believe in God in order to keep him on track then I am all for it but he doesn’t need to use his stardom and the media to spew it….I have the same issue with Webb Simpson. If they want to thank god for helping them then fine but do it behind closed doors…you don’t need to do it when the TV Camera’s are on you….God doesn’t have a television and if he did I’m sure he has more important things to watch then Bronco’s football or PGA Tour golf.

  • scott b

Lots of interesting comments re: Tebow. What strikes me is how sure everyone is that they’re right (believers AND non-believers). I agree with the other Scott that it should be his 4th quarter comebacks that matter to fans, not his religious beliefs…although I’m not averse to public expressions of faith like some people are. I think x24 could afford to be a little more open-minded, but that’s his or her business.
Meanwhile, isn’t this a GOLF website?

  • GHam

Scott- he is not the first to use this forum to “spew” off his beliefs. There were many athelets before him. I am not a religious man by any means but if he can get someone to become a believer, or make difference in ones life, good for him. I guess what you are saying is he offends you by his remarks.
Thier are worst way to be offended and I would choose his over others.

  • Scott

I am bothered by anyone who use their fame to talk politics or religion. Like I said…people in the USA are okay with him talking about God but I guarantee if he was Muslim the media and fans would have a different take on him.

  • GHam

X-24, do you have favorite team, player, music group, place or actor that you follow? If not you are in the minority. If you do you would pull for what ever it is that they are succesfull. You would to take every oppertunity to watch, see, or hear them. So being delusional is what most of America is.

  • GHam

Scott, you are right that would probably be the case. But he would have a different set of people that he would reach out too. What is interesting is that those that are of the Muslim faith are coming forward. If the networks wanted to put an end to it, they would stop the interviews.

  • mike miller

    Well said X24!

Sportspersons should keep their religious beliefs to themselves. It’s personal and should remain that way. Like their political beliefs or whether they prefer women or men in bed.

Nobody in a golf forum is interested in fairy tales about: gods, devils, hell, the tooth fairy, father christmas or the easter bunny.

You’re bothered by someone whose faith is public?
There’s something called the First Amendment. Read it sometime.
If you don’t know where to find it, it’s in the Constitution.
We lose as a society when a right is abridged because someone else disagrees. You are expressing your right to disavow Tebow and his expressions here. The same rights for expression exist for the Tebows of this world.
Did you notice, incidently, that it is not Tebow who is seeking the camera but the camera seeking him.
    Both have a precious right.
    Thank GOD.
