When will Tiger win again on TOUR?

Tiger Woods makes his 2012 PGA TOUR debut this week at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Considering that Tiger hasn’t won a TOUR event since the 2009 BMW Championship, the question is an obvious one: Is this the week he breaks his two-years-plus TOUR drought?

In our latest roundtable, six PGATOUR.COM experts have weighed in with their answers. While each expert expects Tiger to win this year, none expect him to do it this week at Pebble Beach. Click here for roundtable.

Now it’s your turn. Is this the week Tiger ends his TOUR drought? Or will it be at another tournament … and when?

Hang on.. let me get my crystal ball out. In all honestly it could be this week.. Tiger’s loves Pebble Beach and his swing/game is coming around nicely.

when we had a level playing field ,tiger was almost unbeatable .he didn;t need changes to equipment or golf course designs .but someone decided to bring out all this fancy stuff, big headed drivers larger sweet spots ,rescue clubs those who can’t hit long irons ,long handled putters to help bad nerves .and because he was killing par 5s they thought they would reduce them in half. but the one thing they can’t touch is the power of the mind , although i think they have tried through media and fans . i think this is part of the reason tiger is changing his swing to try to stay ahead of them, the other being to stop the injuries .he would never use long handle putter,as some people suggested .this terrible sportsman has to manny principles .

  • hao

ITS SO REFRESHING, to have the new face of golf but which one?there is so many up & coming superstars ,THE YO YO BOYS IS WHAT I CALL THEM . life used to be so simple you watched a magician at work in tiger and now he’s washed up and finished {according to many}.why does it take 10 or more week in week out, different inconstistent players to try and take over from him .I thought all you bashers would have had someone ready to go. all you guys seem to come up with is rory Mcilroy who chokes worst then my lawnmower on a cold winters morning & hasn’t even played tiger at his best, your other great white hope luke donald is probably on par with rory although not having a major under his belt. all I can say is good luck

  • hao

I AM A YO YO BOY.

  • .

Appreciate the understanding, Hao. He doesn’t necessarily have to win this week, but working his game into what will be his primed and ready to win. But, the question is will he win and have to win this week, possibly not. Don’t forget, the media bashing at even this article and others level, absolutely hinders his mind from getting back to clear, and that’s what their purpose is, always. They need him for “eyes”, yet can’t wait to get rid of him, IMO.

    AND ME.

Next win will be at Torrey Pines in 2014. Sorry, but he’s lost his aura. Most of his wins came because people lost their nerve when he appeared on the leaderboard. Then along came Y.E. Yang at the PGA, and Tiger hasn’t been anything but average since. No wins in ’10. No wins in ’11. I sense a pattern here.

  • Gooey

Tiger will win by six strokes this weekend at Pebble

Sherry, as soon as Tiger got into contention he couldn’t drive the ball straight and shot 3 straight bogeys. That’s a choke! did you watch? I thought not.
MILLER DID YOU WATCH ? WHAT 3 STRAIGHT BOGEYS.

  • mike miller

Well done Brandt; your quality of game demands more wins. Maybe a Major too?

Otherwise, for Kyle Stanley, Tiger Woods & Rahil Gangjee in the 3 tournaments this week, it was all about big chokes! Horrible!

  • mike miller

Sean, you’re right. If Noh gets a bit of killer instrinct and Bae strings 4 good rounds together more often, both are top10 material.

  • mechanic

tiger has had some impressive multi-win streaks at various events over the years. i predict his next win will be that 19 man exhibition that he won last year.

  • sandbelt

    i’ll accept a semi-choke from tiger.

stanley was a full choke with a twist!!!

  • sandbelt

    OK, LISTEN AND LISTEN GOOD.

ANYONE WHO THINKS WEBB SIMPSON IS A ONE SEASON WONDER HAD BETTER BE PREPARED FOR A LETDOWN.

THIS GUY IN HIS THIRD FULL SEASON ON TOUR WON TWICE AND WAS SECOND THREE TIMES. THAT SHOULD BE 3 WINS AND 2 SECOND PLACINGS. IN 26 EVENTS HE HAD 12 TOP TENS, FINISHED SECOND ON THE MONEY LIST AND MOVED TO 10 IN THE WORLD. IN HIS 3 APPEARANCES IN MAJORS HE MISSED ONE CUT AND FINISHED TIED 14 AND 16 IN OTHER TWO HE MISSED JUST 3 CUTS. HIS SCORING AVERAGE WAS 69.16 IN 2011 WHICH PUT HIM IN SECOND PLACE.

WEBB SIMPSON IS 26 YEARS OLD. WEBB SIMPSON IS THE ONE LEADING THE CHARGE FOR THE USA.

  • X24 HOT

Gail – my point is you say everyone else has to win except tiger. Contending is enough for him in your book. If the European tour is so weak, as you claim, then tiger should be 10 shots ahead. But in reality he is tied for the lead and no one is watching Kyle Stanley win at Torrey pines. This event is “huge” for tiger. If he wins all doubts are gone if he loses yes people will say he played well but people will also say he has to learn how to win again. you’ve talked for 6 months about winning and now it’s ok for tiger to contend. That my dear is a contradiction. He has to win!!

  • GAIL

Wow!! Sounds like all the Rory “one rounders” are out in force today. Let’s at least try and remember hw many events “Rors” would have won if only the first round counted, and how many events Tiger has WON playing all four. Guess no one had the TV on today, as it’s either that, or they know little about the game. Should be interesting to see what happens but if history is any indication, don’t be too disappointed…

  • sandbelt

i say “he certainly looks like a player of the future, great ball striker, long, good putter”.
i say “big win by stanley”.
i say “i hope that he can keep playing this sort of golf, great to watch”.
i say “i also love the speed of his play, very refreshing”.

hao says “sandbelt, why not start singing his praises”.

hao, i think that is what i have done!

let’s just put this win where it belongs…. a very gutsy efort after the previous week where he didn’t choke but made one poor choice of shot. snedeker was gifted the tournament.
SANDBELT DID OR DIDN’T CHOKE ? YOU SEEM CONFUSED.

  • Tiger fanatic

Like so many of us, I have followed Tiger from his amateur days. I don’t think this week is a guaranteed “W” for him, but I think he has a hell of a good chance. For those who watched him in Abu Dhabi, his driver was better than usual, his 3-metal was pretty darn good, overall, his irons were really well controlled, and his putting was beautiful. I think he has a great chance of winning at Pebble, partially because his confidence is really coming back too, but if not Pebble, he’s definitely going to get a “W” before the Masters. As Bubba Watson said after the Chevron World Challenge, “what makes us nervous is the way he’s walking. He hasn’t walked liked he did in this tournament in a long time”. My thought on that…. when’s the last time you saw Tiger hit an approach to the 18th green and start walking towards it while the ball is in the air? Been a while… He knew he hit just right. At this point, it’s just a matter of getting more rounds….. The Masters is his if we wants it enough…. and we all know he does!

  • Ethan

The drought ends this week. Tiger’s game is getting too good for him not to contend, and I think he will finally pull out the win.

His ball striking, driving in particular, was awful on Sunday in Abu Dhabi, but he STILL shot even par. Yes, he lost the tournament, but he didn’t let a bad day blow up into a huge score.

My expectation and prediction is that he will win this week. He needs to get a win early to get over that “hump” and get the load off his shoulders and then he’ll be able to just go out and play golf and focus on winning tournaments.

Woods wins by 2 shots (-16 total) this Sunday.

  • Sean Smith

The only time he will have a chance to win is when my idol Rory doesn’t play in that tournament. My idol Rory could have won every tournament by 8 strokes if he were to play the PGA Tour but he thinks the PGA Tour competition is too weak so he plays the European Tour to get a real challenge. GO RORY!!!!!!!!!!

  • CJ

I am stoked to see him finally returning to competitive golf here on the pga tour after 2 years of injury struggles all the re-hab to get his body ready and his swing getting back into shape.did you hear the latest?he’s switched to the belly putter…yup it’ll be great to see Mike Weir back where he belong’s…oh,did you think I was talking about someone else lol

  • Big Ray

Tiger Woods needs to find inner peace. Until he does, victory is a mirage.

  • gail

Once again, I’m flattered that someone would take the time to put up a previous post under different circumstances, and also post a new comment under my name. I’m wondering just how popular I must be!! Could I be one of those posters that have folks waiting for my next comments, like Hao? Amazing, as I’m sure my mom would never have thought I would achieve this level of greatness. Well, regardless of my fan club, the question here is about Tiger and winning, and I’m certainly one of those that thinks that winning is all that matters, and when the guys near the top realize they have no shot, they relax and actually feel more comfortable. Face it, Tiger will never be ok with anything other than first place, and that’s the same with guys like Nicklaus, Palmer, and Hogan. Unfortunately, Donald, McIlroy, McDowell, etc… gear their life to top 10′s and top 25′s, which is the recipe for making some money but rarely winning, which is what they’ve done. They remind me of Andy Garcia, the actor, who plays yet again in the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, looking for acceptance but never thinking he can come out on top. He IS the Euro Tour, which is a pretty sad commentary….

  • Sean Smith

If you all want to know why I like Rory so much it’s because we used to room together when I played the mini tours in China. We used to fly there and have little chinas’ caddy for us and they would make us laugh!! Oh golly how I miss the china caddies.

  • sandbelt

you’re full of baloney guy.I used to play there and never saw you around any china courses.

  • Buddy

Hey what happened last weekend? Thought nobody
cared about a PGA event if Tiger wasn’t playing.
Didn’t seem to keep those 500,000 from showing
    to watch some exciting golf.

  • Jeff

WHO REALLY CARES, THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER PLAYERS I WOULD RATHER WATCH THAN HIM, WHEN HE IS PLAYING I DON;T CARE TO WATCH.

  • rick nair

If Tiger birdies half of the par 5s, he is going to win this week. Par 5s have been his nemesis. His scoring problems on par 5s on Sunday did him in at the Abu Dhabi Tournament. The game of golf and for a steady growth of golfing business in the emerging markets of China, India and other Asian countries, Tiger’s comeback is imperative.

  • Big Ray

I believe that Tiger Woods should take a year away from the game. This will give him the opportunity to look inside himself.

  • Kim Adele Hastert

TIGER will WIN again this week & then again at Match Play. :)

  • Auld Hairnet

Tiger Woods will win when he’s good’n'ready, and he’s lookin’ like he’s gettin’ about good’n'ready now. He really doesn’t give a rat’s a$$ about this waste of time this week, but he likes the track, has good memories from PB, the other courses not so much.

  • .

Love your attitude New Hairnet! Good ‘n ready, reminds me of Good N Pleanty. Go Tiger!!!

  • bradley

Tiger Woods will win next at the Ryder Cup.

  • hao

I must have been watching a different event to most people in abu dhabi; he didn’t hit the driver sideways or terrible as some suggest…and it wasn’t the reason he failed to win, distance control was the problem with the ball travelling further then expected which he spoke about in the interview…he also mentioned that he has won a tournement when questioned about this topic,so you can rest assured ethan that he wont be carrying this imaginary hump or load on his shoulders in any event he plays . CJ pigs will fly before he uses long putter.cheers/.

  • TD

he will win this week and possibly by 8 shots if he putts above average

  • joe

jeff Iam suprised you watch at all , the way your idol is playing {phil the dill}. It would certainly put me off.

  • bradley

Tiger Woods hit ONE fairway on the back nine at Abu Dhabi in the final round and a total of SIX greens for the round. He claimed in an interview that he was just a touch off.
    He is in denial.

  • itsalrightma

Does it really matter? More people will tune in this weekend for the telecast than the previous three weeks combined. He is the tour and everyone of these other players should thank him when they cash their winnings and endorsement checks. He’s the reason they play for so much $$ each week. I’d say he’ll win once this year and maybe contend in a major–probably Augusta. Would love to see a win this week.

  • Sherry

I know the people who write these articles don’t want tonacknowledge but he already won. At the Chevron. Remember? He went birdie birdiebto win. He was injured for half of last year, I know you people like to forget that too but he was. Now that he’s fully healthy and will be playing again he will win very very soon…maybe as soon as Sinday. So enjoy it now all you troll haters who have mo life…he will win again and soon.

  • Joe lewand

Never would be to soon, get him to the senior tour so we dont have to watch every shot every day while the real good players go unoticed again

  • Joe lewand

    Sherry, learn how to spell

  • Auld Hornet

LOL…I wish I needed a hairnet these days. This may come as a shock to you, sir shaun, but Tiger hates this event. In particular the poa greens after an army idiots tramples them to death, not to mention the 6+ hour rounds. I’d be very surprised if he does well, especially if he still has that double-cross in the bag.

  • sandbelt

must be magic! i have just returned from a round at the national to find that i have contributed about 6 posts while i was actually fighting quite blustery winds on the course.

tiger will probably win one or two times this year. the field at pebble is not super strong, it could be this week.

  • mike miller

Pro-am is not Tiger’s favoured format; he is too much of an individualist. Which is probably why he has skipped this event for the past 10 years.

I reckon the best Tiger’s fans can realistically hope for is a Top20 and some solid, injury-free, showings in the coming weeks leading into The Masters.

  • tdarby

gail, you are not as popular as you think. most people truly dislike your banter, the eurohating and all.. I hope Tiger plays great, with many birdies, exciting eagles, fist pumps.. and finishes second. or third. because then You must judge him as flawed.

  • mike miller

i’m not responsible for the silly posts in past threads about golfers who say…yada yada blim

  • TC

Tiger wins 3 times this year..Bay Hill, The Masters and then gets redemption at Firestone; then onto the Ryder Cup team where he guts n’ fillets the Euroweenies..!!

  • hao

mike miller if you say it OWN IT/.

  • Smokers_Last

It is amazing how much of the Tiger bashing I see!

Real predictions “Tiger wins 3 this year including a Major!” and right behind him, phenoms by the already household names of Rory, Ricky Fowler and Jason Day! Ohhh and appearing in the distance the return of Mr. Daly!!!

  • mike miller

hao, I do! Always. Impersonators are a persistent problem on this site though!

  • Return of the king

Its rather easy Tiger will win if he gets his driver going. His Iron play is on again and his putting is rather good. The problem is off the tee if he fixes that he will probably have 5-9 victorys 2012 but its a big if.

  • Mike Hilson

I think he’s good enough again to win 2 or 3 times this year including majors, no better. Anyone who bets him to win the Masters at less than 15 to 1 is a sucker.

  • Sean Smith

Does anyone really care? I mean the many Tiger Woods fanboys will care but the majority of us REAL golf fans couldn’t care less. Tiger Woods is just one man. There are about 150 other players in the fields most weeks so why is so much attention given to TW? I know TW is the reason the players are playing for so much money and I know TW is the reason TV ratings go up greatly when he plays but why do you people watching on TV really care?

  • Roundtable: When will Tiger win his next TOUR event? |

[...] YOUR TURN: Let us know your answer to the question [...]

  • Sean Smith

All the Tiger Woods supporters have a very bad short term memory. Giving the Pebble Beach Tournament to the guy before the event even starts. Didn’t they give TW the win before Sunday in Abu Dhabi started too???

Have you guys already forgotten that your Hero Tiger Woods went from great ball striking rounds 1,2 and 3 in Abu Dhabi, hitting around 10 fairways and 16 greens a round to just 4 fairways and 6 greens on Sunday?

You cannot blame this awful play on the wind, there wasn’t any. It was simply poor golf. Tiger Woods doesn’t have that “fear factor” he once had from the late 1990s to about 2007,2008 when the players (mainly American players) bowed down when they were paired with him on Sunday or saw his name on the Leaderboard and played well below their best themselves on that Sunday, allowing Tiger to get the victory.

Those days are gone. He isn’t playing well enough to put fear into people.

I remember GAIL for months last year saying “The moment Rory Mcilroy is paired with Tiger Woods he will crumble under the pressure and struggle”. Didn’t he play with Tiger the first 3 rounds in Abu Dhabi and after round 4 Rory beat Tiger, finishing 2nd? How wrong she was.

I am still awaiting Gail’s excuse for Tiger’s demise Sunday in Abu Dhabi. She is always running down Mcilroy but her man Tiger can never do wrong. She always had an excuse for Tiger’s poor play, what’s it this time?

Tiger going from 10 fairways and 16 greens rounds 1,2 and 3 to 4 fairways and 6 greens Sunday was the biggest demise I have seen since Jeab Van De Velde in the 1999 Open Championship. Not the score itself as he scrambled to a 72 .. but how much his game dropped in the matter of 1 day. Didn’t he card a 66 in round 3 playing flawless golf?

  • Sean Smith

    Jean* even

  • Sean Smith

I won’t be rushing down to a Betting Shop any time soon to put money on a Tiger Woods win any week. He can’t even beat a weak field in Australia losing to Greg Chalmers a guy who literally makes zero noise on the PGA Tour. He should have won in Abu Dhabi but he has more of an excuse to lose this tourney since the European Tour is the better Tour right now with better players on it.

If I were a betting man, and I am, I will be putting money on Tiger possibly winning the exhibition event in his own Tournament in a limited field the Chevron again.

  • mark

I will make a qualified prediction, I Tiger gets to play 4 matches in the accenture match play tourny I think that shouid give him enough if what he needs to win the 2012 Masters. The only thing left for him to develop is the confidence and feel for closing out the deal. Winning a match is just like closing out an opponent. I think he will need more than one to redevelope that feel and confidence. Three match play wins should do it though. Go Tiger.
    Mark

  • hao

a lot of suckers would like your prices mike, but its easy to put that up knowing theres no possible way anyone can get on . your my hero.

  • Sean Smith

In a previous article Tiger Woods stated that Pebble Beach is one of his favourite spots and he is “excitied” to be taking part. BS – if it was one of his favourite stops where on Earth has he been the past decade? He hasn’t played in this even for about 10 years. Only the real hardcore TW fans will believe Woods when he said this.

It is well known that Tiger Woods is a jerk who is only in it for himself. I will be watching the Pebble Beach event and of course the Dubai Desert Cla$$ic on the European Tour closely this week. But I won’t be watching the PGA Tour for Tiger. Watch Tiger won’t say a word to any of his amateur partners or give them tips.

  • Cr4zy Steve

Top 10 for Tiger this week. He’ll also top ten a the Masters. First win in three years will come at the Wells Fargo Championship. Wherever he wins he’ll definitely be under the radar when he does. I’m betting that Tiger has 1 win, 1 runner-up, 4 top tens, and 9 top twenty-fives at the end of the season.

  • Snide

Two thirds and a first in his last three starts, most golfers would love to be that washed up! GO TIGER, bring on the Euros.

  • Return of the king

Seems like most of you dont have a good memory. Tiger Woods dominated golf before and he isnt that old should have at least 10 good years left. If he gets his mind into it he will ofcourse dominate again, its ofcourse very popular here to hate him but the fact is if he gets it toghether he will become the force he was before, i cant even understand why anyone things otherwise.

  • Sean Smith

@ Jo .. I wish I was an 8/9 handicapper. Putting is the strength of my game. Get me inside 10 feet and seems I make more than I miss. iron play is okay I guess but it’s the driving that lets me down. I don’t hit the ball that far and can be very wayward at times =( I play off about 12 and hoping to get to single figures I believe it’s possible just need to hit the ball straighter =(

  • Sean Smith

    October 8th, 2011 10:47 pm

@ Reg … I am a 4 handicapper and just stating my opinion. If you see most of my comments it is a hatred for Tiger Woods as a human being, not for the many great things he’s achieved in the game of golf. I am a golfing fan and have been for a long time and i respect what Tiger achieved on the course. I just don’t like the guy as a person, and never have, even before this thing with him being unfaithful to his wife. Because he always was arrogant, rude, disrespectful, spat on the course, cursed and slammed clubs.

  • James Davidson

Easy. If Tiger remains healthy and plays 18 to 20 events he’ll win 2 or 3 times this year. No majors though. He’ll continue like that for 3 or 4 years and everyone will start to think of him as a regular, ordinary, top ranked player. Sometime after that he will get on a roll and dominate the game again. Not like in his hayday but pretty close. I would guess 2 or 3 more majors.

  • Susan

PGA & Golf Channel make more money when Tiger plays so why don’t you quit picking at him & let him win.

  • Tiger

    I better win this week.

I’m worried Gail will ask me to join the Nationwide Tour.

  • Mark III

Tiger will win his next Tournament when all of the following Ten conditions are in alignment:

    1. He is 100 % Healthy

    2. Wind NOT blowing

    3. Not too Hot

    4. Not to Cold

    5. When he gets his swing straightened out

    6. When he finds the Fairways with all of his Tee Shots

    7. When he can get all of his Putts inside of Ten Feet to drop in the Cup

    8. If he plays all Four Rounds with an under 70 score in each Round

    9. If he doesn’t hit into a Bunker or Hazard

    10. If the following players are NOT in the Tournament – Rory, Luke, Martin, Lee, Phil, Keegan, Kyle, Steve, Rickie and John Daly.

  • RC

The best chance Tiger has at a win this year will be at The Masters.
But I don’t think he has the stuff to pull it off anymore. He is way too inconsistent with the driver and he is losing his short game confidence too. As was mentioned above…he has to have an inner peace with himself to win golf tournaments. Especially the big ones. Sadly, he may never have this again.

Golf desperately needs a new hero now. One we can identify with and look up to. A guy with family values and morals and a heart of gold.

    GO SNEDS!

  • Mark III

Please feel free to add other reasons to the conditions for Tiger not winning?

  • Scott

Honestly, I just don’t care about the tiger saga anymore.

  • Return of the king

Most of you are just crazy we talking about Tiger Woods here, he is without a doubt the best player in the history of the game. In 5 years he will win his major number 20 i can just feel it just wait and see. Its like most of you donkeys havent been around last 15 years watching this guy play golf. Wake up stop the stupid hate, he is just 36 years old its prime time, he might even in next few years have his best year ever in golf it would not suprice me that much.

  • Gord

Sean Smith I don’t know what you have been smoking but I seem to remember a tournament called the Masters, that your Rory had a lead in on the final day, but as soon as he saw a player named Woods two shots behind he folded up like a cheap $30 suit. As soon as he can hold off Tiger in a meaningful tournament then maybe people will listen about your Rors!

  • mark

It sounds like some of you think winning is easy. Taking 2nd in a tourny when you are pumped up and at the top of your game can be easy but to win the tourny, you have to beat the guy that is playing the hottest golf he has ever played in his life on that course and that week. You’ll need everything you have in your bag to get the job done including a psych
if and when needed. That is why the tourny is up for grabs on the back nine of the tourny’s final round.
    Mark

  • jasper

Never, he’s never winning again. not this year or ever. He might win in Dubai with lesser talent or at chevron with 12 players. But never in a PGA event. The pool of current young players coming out is too big. He’s old and jack’s record is sure to never be broken by Tiger. Tiger will always be number two. No body remembers who finishes second.

  • Tom Leger

Very disappointed at ending last week in Phoenix showing Bubba Watson’s Dukes of Hazard car with rebel flag painted on top and CBS crew apparently approving of it. This flag has no place in our society, let alone with a major network extolling it. For shame, CBS, Jim Nance, et. al. I will continue to push this.

    Tom Leger

  • Ocean Palmer

He won’t finish within six shots of the winner.

  • J.

Tiger never needs to hit another shot and will still go down as a legendary role model for kids and adults alike. He broke thru a racist barrier in the sport, he broke thru the old drinking overweight good old boy barrier, he broke thru and became the biggest individual charity contributor, he thrilled millions worldwide and raised the sport of golf 10 fold which allowed more massive charitable contributions, he made millionaires out of hundreds of pros finishing way down the list.

The crowds and fan support says it all….the greatest of all time.

  • Jade

Of course Tiger is going to win another PGA event. The question is…is he finally done with his demons? There was once a question…could Jordan come back and win another ring? Jordan did…as well can Tiger. Golf is such a mental game. What better place than Pebble Beach? I expect him to do it sometime this year. Just have to watch out for guys like Huh and Stanley…these boys are good!!

  • Eric Rose

It might come at Jack’s event or at his own tournament in July.

  • zeeman

cmon Tom whats wrong with the confederate flag its a part of americam history and I bet you drive a japanese car dont you

  • Peter

The dominating golf that he played earlier in his career was an exacting, methodical, save a 1/2 stroke a round through very efficient play. Now that is gone, and it is putting added pressure on his driving, short game bacause of missed fairways, and his putting because of fewer quality looks at birdies. That 1/2 stroke a round is gone. He looks the same, and sounds the same, but he doesn’t have the same control over his golf ball that he had before, so don’t look for the same results, because they won’t happen. It’s like a fastball pitcher loosing 3 mph on his fastball. Looks and sounds great to most, but the hitters (other touring pros vs. TW) see the difference and they capitalize on it. Tiger was in the hunt in Abu-dhabi and his game went south. He has little idea where it’s going off the tee, and now can’t control his distance either.

  • Judge Smails

    Hao,

It’s important not to be a paranoid conspiracy theorist. The reason why we’re seeing big-headed drivers, rescue clubs and other innovations is because technology marches on, especially when there’s money to be made developing new products. As for the media and fans, you reap what you sow.

Insofar as Woods’ swing changes go, he has made very clear why he is making them. He has said that there were only two men in history who ever owned their swings, Ben Hogan and Moe Norman and then followed up with, “I want to own mine.” And the changes are similar to ones Matt Kuchar has made. Woods is striving for perfection.

By the way, Woods won in Europe not that long ago and had another good performance there during the last couple of weeks. And I expect him to win in America very soon. It looks like his game and confidence are back.

phil was at our tournament , went to the next door clubs range, cart boy set him up w new balls a towel and water, phil gave him $100 !
tiger went to same range , cart boy does exactly same set up , tiger doesnt even so much as look at him !!! what a tool !!!

I will win this week. If I don’t it will be because I was unlucky.

  • JohnnyBBad

Cheatah Woods will never win again on the PGA Tour. Anyone who thinks otherwise is simply looking in the rear view mirror, not to mention delusional. Woods is toast! Please stop trying to hype the loser Woods back onto a pedestal. His golf career is over…finished!

ALL YOU TOOLS WHO “claim” NOT TO GIVE A HOOT ABOUT TIGER AND HIS GAME, OR WATCH HIS PLAY – WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THIS FORUM? WHY DID YOU EVEN READ THE ARTICLE IN THE FIRST PLACE, LET ALONE COMMENT ON IT? WHAT A BUNCH OF SISSIES!!!TIGER’S THE BIGGEST THING THAT’S HAPPENED TO GOLF IN THE LAST 2 DECADES, AND YOU TOOLS CAN’T STOMACH THAT FACT! GO JUMP IN A POND!!

Sean Smith shaved 8 shots off his handicap in 2 days.

  • Judge Smails

    Ivan,

Woods has long been known for being as cheap as they come. I never cared for the man.

  • Eddy1065

Ivan, you have a tournament? What’s it called – IVAN OPEN?

  • abracadabra

itsalrightma: woods is NOT the tour all by himself. neither were nicklaus, palmer, player, trevino, watson, nelson, hogan, snead etc. have you ever heard of any those players?

  • Mark III

Just Stating Facts — Sean Smith shaved 8 shots off his handicap in 2 days.

Maybe he got “Harnum” on loan from Phil as a swing coach during the weekend.

Maybe he can join the IVAN OPEN…hey Eddy1065?

I wonder how many OWGR Points are available for the winner?

  • BogeyKing

Apparently people are finding it too difficult to simply answer the question at hand (“When will Tiger win again on Tour?”) and would rather launch into mindless diatribes about how much they either hate him or love him. Comment sections on the internet USED to be constructive…

ANYWAY, I think Tiger wins again this year, no question, and I think it will be The Masters. His ball striking has been brilliant. Just needs the putter to get hot.

  • Windy City

Tiger’s behavior off the course disillusioned a lot of people. I suspect that includes himself most of all, and the cracking of his carefully cultivated public image cost him . He had been living a lie, and he felt it, even if he didn’t know it. That’s why he was driven to cheat, because his illicit affairs probably felt more authentic to him. They were tokens of rebellion against the chains of idolatry in which the public held him. His father, and the rest of the world, thought him great and limitless in promise, and maybe he believed it, too. Maybe the misbehavior was a way of testing or challenging those assumptions, of pushing the limits. Or maybe they reflected a desire to crack the false image in the mirror. It doesn’t matter. Tiger will start winning again when he believes he deserves to win again. He never used to defeat himself. Now he does. When he regains the killer instinct and the conviction that he’s the best and he deserves to win, more than anyone else inside the ropes, he’ll start winning. He’s the greatest golf talent of all time. Once he believes in that talent again, watch out.

  • Peter

Fans want him to win so to he himself. It is no longer on his skill but mainly on the power of his mind how to play well in each hole.

  • Ian

Some of the comments on here amaze me. Tigers game looks good…the problem is good isn’t good enough. He might well win and I hope he does but there’s now a whole host of players who are not afraid of him.
One thing I did notice is how much his attitude had changed…he was chatting away with Robert “rocky” rock during the last round which was good to see.
Tell me something though my American pals…do you get as annoyed at the “get in the hole” guy as I do? Or the blind applause for a shot that’s clearly rubbish?

  • Mark III

Just Stating Facts — Sean Smith shaved 8 shots off his handicap in 2 days.

Maybe Sean borrowed Phil’s swing coach during the weekend.

I wonder how many OWGR Points are available for the winner of the Ivan Open??

  • Mike in PA

I think he will either pull it out this week, or possibly the WGC Match Play. He played very well in Abu Dhabi. I’m sure he got the driver issues from that final round ironed out. Same old problem though, he’s just turning it down a hair too soon.

  • Judge Smails

    Ian,

I probably haven’t noticed the people who shout “get in the hole” and what not as much as you have. As for those who praise rubbish shots, it’s certainly trying when it happens to me, but we have to remember that a lot of these folks don’t understand golf the way you do.

  • Russo

  • steve

Tiger is back in business for sure but I think his priority would be The Masters, as he is still very positive of surpassing Jack’s records of 18 Grand Slams. If he manages top ten in his next 2 tournaments, I would be putting all my money on him winning The Masters this year and also The Open..

  • Blind Chicken

Is pretty much everyone on here nuts? New season, one tournament, one top five? Victory at Chevron in December over quite a good field? In Abu Dhabi third in a field containing Kaymer Westwood and Donald and McIlroy? Didn’t Tiger play three good rounds without any blinding bits of luck, and a fourth such round would have won it comfortably enough? Don’t you think it more likely that Tiger will go on to put together four good rounds rather than regress to having more than one bad round in the week? Wasn’t the bad round even par? Isn’t the progression to the point Tiger is at now exactly the progression he would make if he were going to get back to his previous dominance? It doesn’t look to me like his general ball striking is any poorer than ever before, there are just some residual inconsistencies over the course of a tournament that are exactly what happens when a player is approaching career best form but hasn’t quite got there. If I was picking someone to win at Pebble I’d be picking someone who had top fives in his last couple of tournaments. Who do you think is a better chance? Who else has top fives in their last couple of tournaments? And has anyone looked at the stats? Are the new breed shooting the 68ish adjusted stroke average that is needed to dominate on Tour? I don’t think so; hence the plethora of different winners. So how about a bit of common sense? Tiger has had good stroke average, putting average and GIR stats before in multiple years, and you’d have to think he’s odds on to do it again, particularly seeing how he’s hitting the ball and putting most of the time since the last Aussie trip. My prediction: another period of dominance, perhaps quite a long one, starting within the next year and a half; and a lead in period as wins become more common leading up to it. Who knows what exigencies will intervene but if all progresses as it has to date, that’s the likely outcome I’d say.

  • Big Ray

Blind Chicken, you have same problem as many for the failure of the once mighty Tiger.

    Excuses.

    If is a big word.

  • Brad

Tiger will win this week. He is the hottest golfer in the world right now; just look at his last three stroke play events. Good finish in Australia prior to the President’s Cup, win at Chevron, and second in Dubai (with 34 putts in the first round, and a bad ball striking day in the fourth). Anybody that would pick someone else to win any tournaments is forgetting history and ignoring recent form!

  • Blind Chicken

Oh, one more thing. What is this talk about intimidation factor? If it exists, isn’t it solely a product of shooting low scores consistently, and not collapsing under pressure on Sunday afternoon? It doesn’t seem as though the new breed need Tiger in contention to feel intimidated over the closing holes looking at the last couple of tournaments. Anyway, intimidation factor isn’t what is required to win. Shooting the lowest score is what is required. Winning consistently comes first, the intimidation factor follows from that. If the intimidation factor were a prerequisite to winning, who actually would have won anything on Tour for the last couple of years? And if Tiger wins once or twice, I predict he will regain the confidence that probably does make him seem pretty intimidating to beat even if you are a Furyk or a Stricker let alone a winless rookie. It’s probably unfair to ask them, but the seasoned pros right up to guys like Mickelson and Ogilvy seem genuinely respectful of Tiger’s superiority as a golfer (in the round even if any of them can best him any given week), and those are the guys qualified to judge

  • ken lubega

Will Tiger win at Pebble Beach? It does’nt matter! But he will win!! It may be next week, it may be 25 weeks after next. One thing for sure he is a once in a generation golfing athlete (artiste) and i/we will enjoy every win even more than the last!!

  • J.R.

I’ve got him for “The Masters”. Because, TW has a record to break and that is one of them…

  • Just an Old Golf Fan

I’m 64. There was great golf before Tiger…and there will be great golf after Tiger. I am so tired of him…his constant whining…his obscenities..club tossing….and his disturbing sense of entitlement..Last week the wind caused him to lose…What will the excuse be this week ? Maybe glare off the ocean. I hope he never wins again but I certainly expect that he will.

  • Rod

Saw his comeback but not 100% he used to be. Good tee shots but (second shots) approaches and putting is not there. Psyche on top ten is where he needs to contend with the upcoming guys determined to be on top! It would be very slim for him to win a Majors this year but can contend with a top five on the “minor” PGA tours. But it is so exciting to watch him play against the upcoming contenders on a weekend!

  • Frenchie

Brad, the tournament was in Abu Dhabi, not in Dubaï, and TW finished in a share of 3rd…speaking of hot, what about Rory McIlroy : 3rd, 3rd, 2nd, 4th, 1st, 11th and 2nd in his stroke-play events since september !

  • Rod

    I wouldlike to see the golf dominance in the Byron, Snead silent grit, the Jack, Seve killer instinct, the Rory boyish kill and the TWatson winning smile looks. As for TW he had them for a while (but has faded) in his dominant years (not boyish though but non-white supremacy index) to come back for his game dominance! Surely an exciting read watch to see all this “giant faces” winning indexes (WI) in the game of golf! I hope I didnt miss the Euro, Aussie challenge :}

  • Rory

    THIS WEEK AT PEBBLE!!

  • Gregg

I don’t like Tiger’s chances to win this week for a couple of reason’s.

    1) He’s still playing defensive golf off the Tee which means he cannot let the Driver Go and use it as the Weapon that it is for him.
He’s much closer to being able to do that than last year but he still isn’t there yet.

    2) He is still getting used to this Must be in the Bag Nike Method Putter. It is not part of his anatomy like the Titleist Newport was just yet, but he did heat it up in the Final Round in Abu Dhabi despite his worst ball striking day of the Tournament.

    3) Tiger has shown both recently, Great Ball Striking and Great Putting, just not together in the same round consistently enough to win.
He is very close to doing so and when he does he will win and win in bunches this year. Because Tiger Woods remains the most Talented Golfer to ever play the game of Golf.

I don’t see a win for him this week, I like the fact that he has a Pro Am Partner who can Play so that is a plus for him but I don’t see a Win for Tiger Until the WGC- Cadillac at Doral and after that he will Win the Arnold Invit’l and The Masters…

    Then Look Out!

  • Deepak

“Why he will win”, as opposed to “When he will win” is what I want to answer. He will win because he works really hard on his game. The day he gets his putter going…his only weakness at this point…he will win, and in bunches. That day is not far…perhaps this week. Certainly this week…as he is comfortable on the Pebble Beach greens.

  • hao

rory you should concentrate on your own event you choked and lost in dubai last year; even money after 2 rounds and never got hot.hope you do better this year.cheers/.

  • JK

The game is better with these fresh guys winning. People are so tired of Tiger he makes them yawn. Dalys 4th place finish last week is a bigger story than Woods..

  • Will Noble

People forget that Tiger’s main reason for not playing Pebble Beach for the last ten years, except for the U.S. Open, has primarily been because of bumpy greens. That has been corrected. Smooth, fast greens along with a new level of confidence associated with the new swing makes for an almost unbeatable Tiger Woods. Look for at least six wins this year, the first being the AT&T.

  • Alan

I don’t think he will ever get back to his previous form. However for sure he will win again. But he needs to play more competetive golf. I don’t think he can cherry pick tournaments like he did in the past and win in the same way. His mere presence doesn’t impress anyone any more

  • mark

  • R

Never would be too soon for me!

  • Greenside

Tiger will win again before the Masters, and may even win the Masters. He is too talented and driven for anyone to think otherwise. He’s had a couple weeks to practise since his 3rd place finish (since when is that bad?) and is probably working on the fixes for what went wrong on Sunday.

As for people saying he needs to take “a year off and find inner peace”…hahaha. That’s laughable. The guy is so driven to win that taking anytime off golf is not a good idea. I believe he is slowly learning how to win again. Speaking of his form lately…I think it’s been quite exceptional despite those few bad rounds (that he still posted a decent score).

I believe that Tiger’s decision to work with Sean Foley might have been his best decision of his career. Working on taking stress off the body….talking shop with Foley…swing mechanics, numbers, impact…Tiger loves that stuff, and I’m sure he loves that his coach knows a ton about it. Foley seems like he is very intelligent, but also likes to joke around. His mentality of working psychologically with his players is quite formidable, and I believe it helps quite a bit. Especially with where Tiger is coming from, and trying to get to.

    Sorry for the long post.

  • Tiger's Done

The last 2 weeks of golf in the U.S. was soooo exciting. Getting to know some young golfers who still appreciate the game and it’s values.
Trying to grind out a future. I couldn’t stop watching the last two weeks. Only suggestion would be for the Announcers to stop saying Tiger’s name every other sentence, REAL ANNOYING!!!

  • CHRIS

WOW, TIG GONNA ACTUALLY PLAY IN A PGA TOUR EVENT WITHOUT RECEIVING APPEARANCE CASH? HE MUST FEEL SO USED, POOR GUY!

  • eddie

Tiger has a dirty mind—-he aint gonna win ever again in a PGA Tour event, not like his made up for him Chevron Tourney…

  • DOB

sean smith the only reason tiger didn’t win in abu dhabi is because of climate control, it is much harder to control ur distance in colder/cooler weather than warm weather. he didnt leave his self much chances for birdies since his approach shots were too far from the flag. but yet he shot even par… and no one dare compare tiger with the likes of luke and and westwood, tiger is beyond these guys even on his average days.. westwood have pretty good scores against mediocre players on easy courses, but whenever he comes up against top class player he is less than average. luke donald doesnt know how to win.PERIOD! my prediction that he will never be in the top 5 in any tournament tiger plays will stand. all that being said, rory is a hell of a ball striker at the moment. i see him as the only european out there to give tiger some competition, but as i said in another blog, it is too early in his career to say he will be the next tiger woods. he is young, vibrant and chases the flag well, but his mental power isn’t there yet. for you to be a great golfer you have to block everything out on the course, and that is what tiger have done so well over the past years. with as much publicity as tiger gets, on and off the course it takes a certain level of strength to block all of that out. Tiger will win a bunch of tournaments this season.

He’s got no chance. He thought he was bigger than the GAME and the GAME will never let him win again!

  • bob

World’s weakest field. I don’t care about Tiger. Of course he will probably win again. But the game moves on. So many really good young players in all parts of world. What is this fascination with Tiger. Look at European field this week. Most of guys at PB could not win anywhere….

  • DOB

oh get off the european field is stronger crap… did anyone but me realize that the europeans had trouble in abu dhabi because of the hazards and trees? hmmmm. a lot different than on the open europe courses huh… no one is saying that the game will not move on after tiger, but people have their favorite players.. tiger brings excitement to the game..

  • Bob

Discussing when any professional is going to win is a monumental waste of time. I hope Tiger wins this week, but c’mon, folks, this is golf for goodness sake. Who would have predicted Spencer Levin would lead the Phoenix Open let alone predict that Kyle Stanley would come from 8 strokes back the week after being eclipsed in San Diego? No one.

only 4% of you answered this topic in how it was presented. I wonder which one of you has the ISP address that Phil is trying to get.

Tiger will win this week at Pebble, and every event he enters this year. He will win all 4 majors to tie Nicklaus and completely stun his critics and the world. Why? Don’t you know- he has always been able to win whenever he wanted to, but didn’t want to kill the goose that laid the golden egg. Now the time has come for him to show the world what he could have done all along- win every time he tees it up. Now that he is healthy, there will be no stopping him. I can hardly wait!

  • pm

    congrats Kyle!!

good point noddy…. the inconsistency of the young players won’t allow you to put faith in them when it matters most….

I have been a Tiger fan since I saw him win the amateur in Portland. I like the stability of his head in the Foley swing but his plane gets steep and I THINK he will not be as consistent under pressure. I still like the Harmon swing best.

  • Ian

Tiger Woods has lost his aura, Robert Rock proved my point in Abu Dhabi and Tiger will struggle to beat an elite field at the majors or WGCs. Nobody is intimidated by him anymore, get over it folks.

  • Dave

Let’s give Tiger a mulligan for last week or for the 2011 season? Sure why not? Think up all the excuses you want, truth is no mulligans allowed on the PGA. Play well or go home. That includes everyone. And what about his Sunday round in ABA Whatever? Obviously, Tiger did not close. Neither did Stanley (San Diego)and Levin (Phoenix. Don’t hear any mulligans being handed out there nor did anyone give Stanley a chance in Phoenix. Will Tiger win again? Sure. At the AT&T? Maybe. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Predicting Tiger to win has been common place for over two years. Tiger is not what he use to be. Probably never will be. Who’s to say when he will win only time will tell.

  • thethinman

That’s what “they” said when Michael Jordan first retired – we all know what happened with his return.

dave Mcilroy didn’t close either from leading on day one, and its becomming a repeated thing for him as well. he also spent the previous few weeks over there practicing.

  • MeThree

It will be, when after 72 holes he has the lowest score! NO ONE knows when that will be so please tell me why the endless speculation.
Don’t we have more important things to be concerned about? We have already watched for over two years with no wins for Tiger and the world has not come to an end, the PGA tour has not disbanded and golf is still enjoyable to watch. Would I like to see him win? You bet, but it will happen when it happens and I cannot change that.

  • BW

First you have to ask who really cares if he wins again or not other then the reports who placed him on this pedestal that he gracelessly to a flying leap from to landed in the mus, which he still has on his face. It would be nice if reports who report on the other pros other then tigger.

get over tigger and move on already.

I feel sorry for Kyle Stanley losing last week when he Teed-off on the 18th and threw the game away. Hopefully, once he starts on Thurday, he will not let the past become a problem this week. After saying that, I don’t think he is going to win this time.

always interesting how people want to focus on tiger as a person and not as a golfer. this forum is about his golf and not about his personal actions. many of you in this panel likely have scandals similar to tiger’s magnitude except no one cares about you in the public eye. many of you curse on the course, throw clubs, etc. but again no one in the public cares about you. tiger is a champion on the course. that is what this forum is about. he unfortunately lives in an age where every movement is recorded. what if fuzzy zoeler played in his prime today? do you think all of the greats were saints? you people are clueless.

  • X24 hot

Scott- if that’s true then why are there always so many posts about tiger? If those of you who don’t like him don’t care then why bother posting? I don’t think they are nervous, I think they are angry. They just wish he would go away so they can klan-up the tour. It’s really all about race. If you actually play golf you cannot say, with a straight face, that you don’t like his game. You can say you don’t like him, but how did you come to that conclusion? You don’t know him or any other celebrity. People see people on tv and somehow think they know them. Just another sign of the lack of intelligence out there. He’s not done, so enjoy the game while you have the chance.

I don’t care when he wins again, if he ever wins again. He has lost my respect and it is refreshing to see new golfers every week. Sure they aren’t as talented as Tiger used to be, but it makes it more real to watch. They are human, they do make mistakes like the rest of us. Everyone, including the media, needs to move on from the Tiger show case and focus on the young, up and coming guys. they are far mor interesting

  • fraud!

Tiger Woods may be a fraud but not as much of a fraud as a lot of these posters.

  • X24 hot

I love the golf. I don’t know him. I also don’t pretend to know him. You don’t like tigers golf game?

  • Tiger's Done

When has Tiger won a “Real” Tourey? How many YEARS???

  • .

Interesting? Really? If you like grass growing. Absolutely no excitement, don’t look forward to following them hole-by-hole, if you want to see plain, staid, nobody-physically-or-wardrobe-wise appealing, then go ahead and follow the “ordinary”. Couch potato, keep eating them. You find yourselves more equal to someone who definitely does not move the needle, and cares about the end result, not just showing up and earning a living and being a “regular” tour player for a living. End!

  • fraud!

X24 hot – you sure sound like you love him, you’re the one that should be refered to as a fraud!

  • Scott

X24 hot – Its not that these Tiger Haters actually hate tiger….who they hate is the Tiger Lovers and some of the stupid things they constantly say…things like tiger haters being nervous. Sure there are a select few people who truly hate tiger but the majority of people that are called tiger haters don’t hate tiger at all. They just love the game of golf more then tiger…which is something that many tiger lovers don’t understand because they love tiger more than the game. Hence why i call those people Tiger Bum Chums.

I know you like tiger but from your posts I wouldn’t call you a Tiger Bum Chum since you’ve shown me that you understand golf and that you don’t put Tiger above the game itself.

  • fraud!

    Scott – spot on buddy.

  • X24 hot

Sean- didn’t we find out that tiger is human and has made mistakes over the last 2 years. And all the posts on here seem to prove you wrong, they are not more interesting. Don’t you think that if one of those”young guns” gets to tigers level that they might succumb to the same pitfalls he did? If they are so human it would make perfect sense. I think you need to realize that there isn’t a professional golfer out there that is playing golf to gain your respect. They are playing for money and lots of it, so I think your precious respect will continue to be lost as time goes passes and you find out more about all of these guys. I mean, did you hear Westwood cussing last week? What is happening, soon he’ll be caught spitting and cheating. Enjoy the GOLF.

  • tiger hater

scott- you hit the nail on the head. Where was the story of when will Phil or Ernie or numerous other talanted major champions who have not won in a while win again? why is there no prognostication for these players. every one on here that loves this fraud anoint himt the greatest player ever….until he has 19 major championship, he is out of the discussion….and it will NEVER happen!!!

  • X24 hot

Scott- I appreciate getting off the BC list. I also appreciate your point. I think those people don’t actually play golf. But I can’t agree with people like Sean who think that anyone cares who he respects. All of these guys are the same, Westwood proved that last week. They all cuss and spit and get angry. We can hear and see everything now and that makes them have to act like robots. I think tiger is flawed, but not a fraud. But then again who isn’t flawed?

  • Gregg

Sean, I am sure Tiger is tossing in his sleep thinking that you have lost respect for him.
I have read most of your posts in this thread and come to the conclusion that you know absolutely nothing about golf.

  • .

    Gregg, amen.

  • Numo

Pretty amazing though that his chip in at the 16th in the 2005 Masters don’t get into the top-10 of his shots in his career. I would rank it defenitly top 5, but also most defenitly top 3. Maybe the best ever when you consider that he had it on the line for the title. Sure had the AT&T with the holed wedge on the line too, but that’s not a major. Don’t know about the Canadian Open in 2000 that shot over the water from the bunker which is almost always nr 1. Still think 16th at Augusta in ’05 beats ‘em all if it had to come down to one shot.

  • Kevin

I predict Tiger, will at least make it into the top 10. I think the field is going to super tough and that Tiger is going to have a lot of contenders to play with… hopefully he’s able to go low right from the get-go because I know that’ll help with the other rounds. If Tiger happens to win the tournament, I’ll go nuts and jump up and down like crazy.

  • phil

might as well add my thoughts to the long list of what if`s. why can`t people admit that t.w. had his day and will always be one of the best too play the game, but he will never be what he once was. he will win again but not like he once did.T.W just play golf and we all shall see what is to be.

  • World Golf

Scot at 2:44 Feb 7 said it perfectly.

Real Golf fans don’t mind reading an article about Tiger. What they don’t like is most of the coverage focused on Tiger when there are many more interesting stories to cover. If you can’t see this, then you don’t qualify as a real Golf Fan.

  • Sir Shaun

This “. says” is definitely Casey Friend.. he hate’s anything European and makes a sick comment about Belfast. YOU’RE A DISGUSTING HUMAN BEING YOU SICK BASTARD!

    “grew up with bombings”.. UNBELIEVABLE!

  • Scott

X24 hot – I tend to believe that people who complain about Tiger spitting and cursing are just looking for a reason to complain about him. Almost everyone who has picked up a golf club at one time or another has spit or cursed….maybe not on the golf course but I most likely on the golf course. If people want to hate tiger for cheating on his wife that is fine and understandable. If you want to hate on tiger because he has not personality then I am fine with that to. If you want to hate on him because of his golf game or because of things that every other golfer does then you are showing more signs of jealously as oppose to hate. Do I like tiger as a human being….from what I’ve seen of him……no. Does that mean he is a bad person in life….not necessarily. Do I hate him for what he does on the golf course…no, and that includes the spitting, cursing, and how he plays the game. Will I cheer for him….no but there are very few golfers that I actually cheer for.

  • matt (eng)

tiger hater….i think you will find most golfers play virtually the same schedule year in year out!!! get a grip u freak and go and hate someone else…

  • Blind Chicken

Can anyone of the various posters who attack Tiger’s character explain why they think a pro sportsman’s personal character is important? Determination, drive, courage under fire, perseverance, sure. But off course conduct, or even shows of emotion in the heat of competition? Pro sport is not like politics where there is something to gain by besmirching candidates in the minds of simpleton voters. Might I suggest that bleating about an athlete’s personal character is off the point and juvenile, and certainly has nothing to do with how the athlete will perform?

  • Big Ray

Inner peace cannot be achieved without contrition.

  • matt (eng)

scott….some very good points, but i wonder if the tiger haters heard LW swear after his tee shot on the 16th in quatar…didnt really make stories because it wasn’t TW????
    GAIL…how r u???

  • MrBob

The one I think isn’t even on the list! 16th hole at Augusta where he chipped from behind the green up the hill and the ball hung on the lip for a second before it fell in!!

  • fairway fanny

That’s right BIG RAY!! Inner peace, Tiger needs to get himself a piece and put it inner.

  • Just Stating Facts

The Chevron Challenge is not an official PGA Tour event.

Tiger Woods last won a PGA Tour event in September 2009.

  • matt (eng)

mr bob….agree with that shot, one of the most thought out shots we will ever see.

  • matt (eng)

just stating facts…..so what, it warrants ranking points…what is your point!!!! a win is a win is it not???a

  • Sir Shaun

matt.. the most funny thing about Lee Westwood swearing after he hit his tee shot on the 16th at Qatar was, the ball was flying straight towards the flag.

I see mummy Westwood wasn’t too pleased with her boy.

  • Just Stating Facts

The Chevron Challenge is an out of season invitational event hosted by Tiger Woods.

The tournament has 18 players, only the deluded would consider this victory a genuine win.

  • matt (eng)

sir shaun..spot on, i was watching and it was an awesome golf shot…he must av thought it was a flyer…
just stating facts…….you seem very apt at stating the obvious, so therefore the ryder cup is also meaningless????/

  • Gregg

The best shot I’ve ever seen Tiger Woods hit was a Bunker Shot at the PGA Championship in Minnesota at Hazeltine that Rich Beem won.
It was a 3 Iron with only 1 foot in the bunker his left and his right leg was 3 feet higher than his left out of the bunker with a tree directly in front of him from 223 yards away that I said No Way he gets it over that tree.
He did and Eagled the hole.
Unbelievable Shot and my Vote for his best shot ever.

  • Terry

Anybody but Tiger please. There are so many good players deserving to win. Tiger may win once this year and that would be OK.

  • matt (eng)

gregg…. would have loved to see that shot m8, sounds something like he could only do

  • Sean

Just to follow up Gregg. That was my first post.
I also think that who you are as a person hugely dictates how great you are as an athlete and unfortunately Tiger did taint his greatness. No doubt one of the best folders ever, but I am excited to see new talent

  • Richie

    This Sunday!!!!

  • Chris "LIU"

Well, the best golfer ever seems to have found his swing with his new clubs finally. It took a lot of hard work and time but he is back to the PGA for 2012. Now that all the major outside noise has quited down his focus is back to where it should be. I am looking at Tiger this weekend like a race horse off a 6 month lay-off. As a horse would Tiger took the time off to get his workouts in and find his right stride in practice rounds. He made his 1st race in a sense over seas and played very well. Like a horse off a long layoff he showed great speed for 3/4 of his 1st race back but faded slightly at the end. Now its that 2nd start off a long layoff and you should see the best of him. He will play like his old self this weekend and be able to take a nice lead against this early season field. Look to get the highest odds of the season on him at 6-1 and win convincingly this weekend. Lets go Tiger, your comeback starts now. LIU

  • hao

WORLD GOLF; so now tigers to blame for the media writing stories about him… you complain about him getting all the attention and all you do is come on here and mention him yourself, why not open up and tell us your thoughts about the game + players you fancy so we can understand where someone with the moniker ” WORLD GOLF ” is comming from. same goes for fraud.. hatter and all the other one liners on here.

  • eye.of.the.tiger

    Have you guys forgot??!!!!
His last 3 tourneys he played
Aussie Open- lead after 36 holes, finisehed 3rd
    Chevron World challenge- WON
Abu Dahbi- lead after 54 holes, finished 3rd

    HE’S BACK AND CONTENDING!!!!
He will win again many more times before his time is up…

  • fgcteam

I Think he can already win this week and he will win many times more.
I can’t understand the people who don’t believe that is IS back, just because he doesn’t win that much compared to ten years ago. But in my opinion, times have changed a lot. Look at the PGA Tour ten or fifteen years ago. When Tiger started his career, players such as Mark O’Meara, Hal Sutton, Marc Calcavecchia, Billy Mayfair, and several other players, were Top20 players in the world. Tiger was the one, who started making Golf a “real” sport, he was the first and only player with a regular fitness program, others were smoking or drinking on the course. No wonder, he had such a huge advantage compared to others. He was athletic, no other player was like him.
And now look at today’s OWGR. There are just 4-5 guys within the Top50, who are older than 40 and do not have kind of a “Men’s Health body”. The borders have been blurred and you don’t even have a chance to compete, if you are not fit enough. The Top50 is much closer than 10 years ago and there are many many more players, who can actually win a tournament, even if Tiger is in the field. In my opinion, one of the few of Tiger’s advantages is the mental thing. And if he keeps training and striking the ball like the last months, he will definitely win again very soon.

Hence, I can’t understand all those detractors, who depreciate Tiger just because he doesn’t win that often, which is not only his fault, but also caused by the rest of the world, that is improving very fast.

  • Jeff

72 when he hits 3 GIR!! Man his short game was something else.

Watched him at Royal Melbourne and he had that “look”. The focus that he was famous for. I missed that smashing Scotty gave him on the Thursday, but he got angry, not the ranting club smacking angry but that quiet resolve anger!!

Tiger is only 3 factors away from being world number one at seasons end.

    1. Can Westwood or Donald match top spot with a major?

    2. Day or Scott can they close out, both had superb years at the majors but they were pipped by an amazing performance at Augusta.

    3. Rory.

He has a lot of “free” tournaments to add to his ranking points average remember….

  • Numo

Gregg, that iron shot is right up there too! In his book from 2001 he says a 3-wood at St Andrews in 2000 British is his best shot ever, because it went straight on the line he visioned all the way and didn’t divert one inch. Those two, along with the Masters chip-in 2005, must simply be the top 3 I think.. But the problem is he has made so many good shots it’s almost impossible to distinguish them from each other.. You have to weigh in factors such as how important were they, pressure atm, title etc..

  • hao

Mcilroy will never be known as the best: the 4 shot lead & MORE IMPORTANTLY 82 final round will never leave him. that being said lets give him 20 majors… whats the cv say; he beat the past his prime old tiger woods {as many have stated} but wait lets leave tiger out of the equasion and look at the rest of the opposition, keegs ricky spider day ishy cauley sneds manaserro bubba kim bae mahan. surely you don’t want yo name watney or justin after there failures allready.I clearly remember about 5 years ago everyone was wondering how many majors scott would win I’LL leave it up to you guys to look that one up. now that we have established the so called super players comming thru can anyone match up the past rivalrys of tigers; els phil vj paddy sergio westy goose choi cabrera ect ect with rorys present and future youg guns.I know its a little hypothetical but give it a try . or you could try jacks opposition to rorys it just might stop a few critics from getting ahead of themselves.cheers/.

  • hao

jeff the smashing scott handed out was to figgy not tiger, they never played singles. have a feeling you allready know that. just bad reporting.

  • Jason

    U lot make me laugh.

  • Jason

Hao, I’ve told u, stop smoking that pipe.

  • scott

jason its not the pipe thats the problem its whats in it .

    Hi,

Despite being a hard core Tiger fan and itching to see more fist pumps and ‘W’s in his calendar I would like to take his Pebble Beach appearance with a pinch of salt. My only basis of judgement is that he is yet to command control during windy rounds – and at pebble he will get plenty of wind to contend with. I don’t see him finishing in the top 5 for sure – but I can’t wait to be proved wrong :-)

Cheers and a good game to all!

  • MeThree

I am part of his fan base and he will win when he has the lowest score all the rest of this is just guessing, conjecture or speculation which I find stupid. I love to watch him win but I also just love to watch him play golf and I notice all the people questioned do not play professional golf they just talk about. Those who can do the rest just speculate.

  • richard clifford

i think if tiger plays like he did a couple of weeks back hes gona win this at pebble beach he just needs to keep it going for all four rounds and its his to win i seen the old tiger woods couple of weeks back and i think HES BACK ”’

  • Len

    Hmmm…when will Tiger win again?

I think Pebble will be Top 10, but his next victory may come at the Masters.

I just have this feeling that Tiger is not as inspired to win regular tournaments anymore.

So..looking at the schedule…the Masters looks good. And it would be fitting since it was his first major and the start of his dominance.

Maybe it will jump start the next era of dominance.

  • Stevie

Tiger will never win again. He’s punishing himself for his bad behavior. He no longer scares anyone. He’s through.

  • Honestly

Tiger Woods will fulfill his destiny and win more majors than anyone in the history of golf. The racism will come flowing like water about how he doesn’t deserve to be at the top of the golfing world.
