Make your picks: AT&T Pebble Beach

Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson went 1-2-3 in our Expert Picks this week. Rob Bolton provides five players that could surprise at Pebble Beach.

What is your opinion for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am? Tell us your thoughts below.

  • Andrew

    Tiger Woods
    Rickie Fowler
    Dustin Johnson

  • Scott

Mike Weir in his 2012 debut…..wishful thinking but what the heck.

Tiger makes top 10 but doesn’t win.

  • Robert

Hunter Mahan. Spencer Levin comes in 2nd again.

  • JJ

Not the best of week’s last week with a T8 for Rollins and T15 for Pampling being the best of my picks. I did give out Paul Lawrie as a selection in Qatar so all was not lost.

Moving on to this week, I think Rob Bolton must have picked my brain as we seem to have a few similar selections. Or maybe my picks are just too predictable. Woods being in the field has a positive impact on the betting and some people are longer prices than they should be (although the prices quoted may no longer be available).

Nick Watney – T6 last year, top 25 2009 and 2010.A quality player and rested after missing out last week. 25/1 is too long a price.

Bryce Molder – 3 top 15 finishes from 4 events so far this year, he was top 10 here both the past 2 years. 40/1

Kevin Na – no form in the event but his T5 last week shows he’s playing well. 45/1.

Vijay Singh – his withdrawal last week doesn’t worry me, but the fact he was playing so badly does. Still, one win, two seconds and three other top 15′s in the past 12 years shows his liking for the format. 80/1 has to be over generous.

DJ Trahan – I must be missing something here but a 4th place in Phoenix, and top 10 here for the last 2 years makes him a much better than 100/1 shot in my book.

Rod Pampling – 15th last week, 8th the week before. Worth perservering with, especially at 100/1.

Good luck and best wishes from England.

  • ripperduggan

Its hard to believe, but it is true that TIGER WOODS is in the yahoo fantasy B GROUP.

  • Sir Shaun

Woods or Harrington to WIN! Both are showing good sign’s of returning to their best form.

Martin Laird as the patriotic pick.

  • Andrew M

    PHIL MICKELSON

  • Steve

Rickie Fowler will get his long overdue first win this week

  • RC

The Immelman just may be ready to win again after his long drought since his Master’s win. He has been sharp the past few weeks and just might pull this one out of the hat.
Wish I could say the same for Sneds but it looks like he still may be on cloud 9 after his unexpected win 2 weeks ago. It may take him awhile to come back to earth and settle into his game again. Hopefully, he will be hungry again in time for The Masters.

As for Tiger…he probably will contend this week but won’t win.

I sure hope little Ricky wins one soon so all the media hype will sorta feel justified. In all my yrs. of watching golf I have NEVER seen anyone get so much recognition without winning.

  • Sir Shaun

JJ!.. how are you doing mate? What a great perdiction you made for my hero Paul Lawrie to win in Qatar.. Paul was absolutely brilliant last week.

  • CJ

Weir,Delaet,Hearn…not likely but it’ll be great to see Weirsy tee it up again…Go Mike!

  • Rob Bolton

    JJ,

Indeed, I’m peering over your shoulder!

    ;)

    Best,
    Rob

  • JJ

Cheers Shaun. Yes, it was great to see Lawrie winning again and we all know what he went on to win last time he won this event ;)

I’ll be keeping an eye open on the long range weather forecast for Lytham St Annes 3rd week in July!

Oh, and nice win for the Arabs against Rangers in the Cup. Now to do the same to Celtic!!

  • JJ

Haha “Rob”. You need to do better research if 4/10 picks for the power rankings are the same as mine! ;)

  • ripperduggan

SIR SHAUN- I had the same pick as both yourself and JJ!! Do you play the yahoo fantasy?? Both JJ, Bacardi Jim, n I are a small but competitive league for people who really know golf. if so I can talk to our league. LET ME KNOW

  • Cr4zy Steve

Spencer Levin – Maybe he will pull a Kyle Stanley this week and get back on track with a win. Has made the cut in all three appearances with two top fifteens including a shared fourth last year

Sean O’hair – Sole top ten in this event was during career year back in 09. 0ff to a great start this year and ranks fourth in scrabling which should help at Pebble.

Martin Flores – Off to a fast start this year with two straight top twenties. Ranks a lofty second in putting average. Made the cut in only other appearance back in 2009.

Mark Anderson – Don’t know why just have a feeling this week. ranks a tour 5th in Par 5 scoring average, best among rookies.

Bryce Molder – Safe pick. Thought he would get on Rob’s sleeper picks if anything. Looks like I was wrong.

Tiger Woods – Pretty Obvious Pick. Dont think he’ll win this week but has a good chance to crack the top ten.

James Driscoll – Three straight made cuts. 3rd in scrambling average. Top fifteens in two of his last four starts here.

John Mallinger – 3/T3 in first two appearances at this event. Has been a non-factor since. Shared 2nd at the Humana Challenge looked promising. Ranked 21st in the all around.

  • Cr4zy Steve

Gotta hate that comment is awaiting moderation

    Anyway My Picks:

    Spencer Levin
    Sean O’hair

    Martin Flores
    Mark Anderson
    Bryce Molder
    Tiger Woods

    James Driscoll
    John Mallinger

  • Al from Australia

    6) D.A.Points.
    7) Josh Teater.
    8) Jimmy Walker.

    GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE.

  • Alwayshopeful

Any doubt that David Duval makes top 5 @ Pebble?

  • Cr4zy Steve

    tons of doubt

  • mikey laz

Molder, Na, Steele, and Moon-Bae all at great odds. As for across the pond Coetzee is a great play…

  • Daniel Clarke

    1. Phil
    2. Tiger
    3. Rory

  • Cr4zy Steve

Nice picks AI. Cant believe i didnt think of Tom Gillis. Great record at this event. Bowdwitch seems like a risky pick. But who knows he finished T9 a this event a year ago. Overall thought great picks. Best off luck to you this week as well

  • ripperduggan

ALWAYS HOPEFUL- are you serious with regards to Duval.

  • Cr4zy Steve

    unfortunately i believe he is

  • Cr4zy Steve

    Anyway my European Tour picks:

    Johan Edfors
    Bernd Weisberger
    Rory Mcilroy
    Martin Kaymer
    Peter Uilein
    Alexander Noran
    Tommy Fleetwood

  • funnyname

Been reading 4 a while, but not posting, enjoyable.
As some of you seem to be doing the same type of research and coming with the same result, would suggest Heath Slocum,
played the last 3 rounds @ scotsdale really well, his game is coming back, he recently tweeted
“Not the start I envisioned to 2012! All the offseason hard work is going to pay off soon. Really close to some great golf! #patient
    13 Jan
I am hoping he and me are rewarded soon
    Enjoy, best wishes from london

  • sandbelt

this is the one that tiger should win. none of the usual suspects (dustin, phil) are playing with any confidence.

    poulter some hope.

ricky barnes is my best outsider.

  • James T.

would love to see a Canadian win it – Go Mike.

  • JDFlakes

    Webb Simpson
    Bubba Watson
    Tiger Woods

  • Sherry S.

    TIGER!!!

    That’s it.

  • Sir Shaun

JJ.. It would be a fairy-tale story if Paul can go onto win the Open and play in the Ryder Cup and repeat 1999.. it’s possible the way he’s playing at the moment.

Up the Terrors!! As Peter Houston said, we’re going to have to do it the hard way now, it’s going to be very hard but I believe we can beat them at Tannadice.

Ripperduggan.. Unfortunately I don’t play in the yahoo fantasay league.

JJ & Ripperduggan.. Who’s going to be your pick’s for Dubai? I have to go with Rory McIlroy(won at Dubai before),Paul Lawrie(playing the best he’s ever played and in total control of his game) and John Daly as a total rank outsider.

  • ron

    chris couch

  • Paul

    Zack Johnaon

  • Sir Shaun

mikey laz.. I agree with you that George Coetzee is a talented prospect and could feature at Dubai.

  • Justin

Hunter Mahan. Played well two weeks ago and was runner up last year

  • Golf Dr.

Tiger, Dustin and a bettor’s upset puts a finally healthy Paul Stankowski in the top ten. Won pro am once and plays well in these type of events.

  • RS

    1. Vijay Singh
    2. Vijay Singh
    3. Vijay Singh

  • skip bayless

Mahan is a good pick much of the time and he seems to sneak in there from time to time but now Webb Simpson looks a little more sure. If Woods would play a little more often, he’d be the pick because his game is coming to form and ready to make that move. I don’t see Woods winning until Bay Hill, then the sky’s the limit. Mickelson, either, because of the uncertainty with his wrist. And if Levin thinks his win is assured just because it worked out for Kyle Stanley after his previous week’s failure, his emotions will betray him first. I also would like to see Duval come back.

  • England's Mick

A few outsiders to ponder over…..

    1st DJ Trahan
    2nd Chris Stroud
    3rd John Mallinger
    4th Josh Teater
    5th Bill Lunde
    6th Tom Gillis
    7th Greg Owen
    8th Paul Goydos

    Of the top fancies……

    Dustin, Tiger and Hunter

  • Shants

Kyle Stanley comes from 10 down on Sunday to beat Tiger by one.

  • skip bayless

Never liked Vijay Singh but when he was in power last decade, he was a force to be reckoned with along with Woods and Mickelson as they were the best three at that time and was truly one of “The Big Five” along with Els and Goosen. You look in the standings and you know you would see him somewhere in the top 10. And admittedly, golf is a better game when players like him, Duval, Els, Goosen, Toms, Love are up there with Woods and Mickelson.

  • Harry's Game

As a fellow countryman my heart is saying Harrington and hoping that his own admission of that ‘the early stage of the season is not his strongest’ does not go against him this year. He had some good showing in Jan in the East so maybe it could be signs of things to come.

Other alternatives in my fantasy group are Na, Vijay, Steele and Points.

I’d say Bjorn or Hanson for Dubai. Good track record for one and momentum for the other. Short odds though.

  • skip bayless

One would have to say you must have done your homework, England’s Mick. I do not agree with No. 8 only because Goydos withdrew last week, and that is not always a good sign for the following tournament. Time for Dustin Johnson to start asserting himself again and Bubba Watson is just too sometimey. Woods will finish top five in preparation for the Spring and the Masters.

  • ripperduggan

SIR SHAUN- I have to go with Rory also the 3 years he’s been inside the top 10, 1 being a win in ’09. I also think that the some1 from spain as they have great tracker records. Who you going w at Pebble. Winner contender and sleeper.

  • RS

Shants- It will be fantastic if someone from 7 back comes to win again. Sundays will be exciting as ever again.

skip bayless- I hope the old rivalries ignite again with VJ and TW. I personally think it’s good for the game. Some trash talk make it interesting. TW Who?

  • Cr4zy Steve

also look out for Ross Fisher this week

  • England's Mick

I think TW is the best ever but have to say his response to VJ’s ‘Tiger who?’ was one of the very few times he has disappointed me

  • KK

    Jimmy Walker
    Dustin Johnson
    Mickelson

  • Sir Shaun

Ripperduggan.. I’ve already said Woods or Harrington to win so can’t go back on my word.. I’ll go with Nick Watney as a contender and Ian Poulter as a sleeper.

  • CG

Top 3 in no particular order:

    Hunter Mahan
    Bryce Molder
    Pat Perez

  • ripperduggan

    FACEBOOK MATCHUP PICKS
    T. WOODS- D. Johnson
    P. Michelson- N. WATNEY
    A. BADDELEY- G. Ogilvy
    V.SINGH- J. Furyk
    I. POULTER- R. Moore
Stay tuned for yahoo fantasy picks.

  • mike miller

Bryce Molder each way & Matt Every for Top10 value.

  • To Bo

    Bill Anderson
    Tigers Woods
    Mike Weir

  • DW

JJ and Sir Shaun : I took Lawrie in SA and at Abu Dhabi where he finished bogey, bogey, par to finish out of the places so decided to leave him out last week …. almost vomited when he romped in.

    This week :

    Perez
    Jimmy Walker
    Matt Jones
    Josh Teater
    James Driscoll
    Kris Blanks

  • Bacardi Jim

First, a thank you to JJ for turning me on to Lawrie last week for the GolfChannel game. *tip of the hat*

    Ok… Yahoo! lineup:

    A–Levin, Mickelson
B–Points, D. Johnson, Mahan and Woods (this isn’t set in stone, as I’m still strongly considering Molder)
C–Some combination of Baddeley, Trahan and Bob Estes.

Overall pick to win: D.A. Points

Random notes: Part of me wants to pick John Huh this week. He’s having a stellar season. But he’ll be playing on THREE different courses he’s never played before this week. I don’t think he can repeat his success. Odd to see Tiger in the B-group this week. I’m picking Rory in the Omega. Anybody else give Tom Gillis a hard look this week? He rarely makes a cut, but seems to usually play lights out at PB.

  • Bill

Who do you take one and done?

  • Bacardi Jim

Bill: I don’t play any one-and-done… but if I did, I’d take Points.

  • billybob

    Bob Nickleford
    Mike Weir
    Tiger Woods
    Rubin?

  • ripperduggan

Bacardi you also took the yahoo line up right outta my mouth almost thesame.
I like the the Bob Estes pick being mentioned and another smart pick along the lines of Estes is J. Maggert.

  • England's Mick

backed Gillis ew last year and he duly obliged. he’s 250-1 this year with great course form. Gotta be with a couple of bob ew, eh?

  • To Bo

Tiger will come in at 38th

  • Bill

    Thanks Jim

  • Greg Smith

    Kevin Chappell
    DA Points
    Tiger Woods

  • Smitty

    Dustin Johnson or Kevin Chappell

  • Filipo

Oh how Tiger needs to show these younger upstarts he is back after so long. I believe he is ready .I just hope HE believes it.

  • ripperduggan

BILL- 1 n done! I would go with B. Molder, it will will been a very tall order for Points to come back and be the man come Sunday again this years. Although i think Points will top 15 though

  • Bacardi Jim

ripper: I’m taking Maggert in Group 4 in the GC game.

  • Stephen

David Duval total sleeper pick watch this space!!!

o the reign of tiger is back BOOM!!!!

  • paulie

    Tiger , Trahan , Driscoll

  • bulldog

go mike weir, all canada is wishing you well on your return back to golf.

  • Smitty

Romo beats Tiger gross for one round!!!!

  • Tony from downunder

    Tiger`s ready to roar.
Also think Brendan Steele and Bo Van Pelt can go close this week.

  • Jack

    1. Tiger Woods
    2. Dustin Johnson
    T3. Phil Mickelson
T3. Tom Gillis (seems to play well here)

  • Tooners

okay, help me here, one and done league, 2 players, one alt. I am thinking, Mahan,Molder, with alt. DJ,, what do you think?

  • Rick

Vijay, because of his runner up finishes!

  • Jeff Prokop

Cameron Tringale. He will soon have the same impact as Kyle Stanley…..just wait on it.

  • Randy H

This is the week for his first PGA tour win…
    Ken Duke

  • Josh

Snedker, Huh, and Chopra. How do you not pick a guy who just had 2 holes in one?

  • RW

Mahan is your man this week

  • Viddy

    tiger

  • Burt

Tiger by five strokes. Lefty 25th if he makes the cut. Kyle Stanly #2, Dustin Johnson #3 tie with Harrington.

  • Mark III

If Chopra can repeat some of his Aces this week, he will be worth watching?

Rickie should be ready for a victory at the Beach this week.

Woods has lost the “Tiger” in himself since his last win 2 1/2 years ago at the BMW Championship, so don’t expect him top the Leaderboard because he is not 100% healthy yet. The best you can expect from “Meow” Woods this week is to see him past Mickelson in the OWGR rankings when the points are given out on Sunday.

  • Mark III

I forgot one thing. Has TW been practising his “Fist” pumping technique under his new swing coach?

It has been 2 1/2 yrs now since his last win, and no doubt has forgotten what to do if he ever wins again.

He got rid of his Coach/Caddy and most of his friends since his last win, so maybe he will have a new victory move for the 18th Green, if the opportunity ever rises?

  • Mark III

By the way —- Jim Stats and Just Stating Facts —

What ever happened to the rationale about TW wins all of his starts this year, up to the Masters while Luke Donald doesn’t get any OWGR Points? Hence, TW will be #1 ?????

I suppose the lady in the GPS has already stated those famous words…”Recalulating” after the failure of TW to beat The Rock at Abu Dhabi.

  • JJ

Some interesting suggestions out there – I love it when people go for long shots and give reasons why!

Whoever said Slocum, I agree. I had a good look at him but decided I would want to see another week’s stats before selecting him. As for Gillis another I considered but seems so out of form that even his excellent tournament record had to be ignored. I was tempted by Mahan but surely all that travelling will have left him wiped out?

The obvious pick should be Levin to do a Stanley (amazing win last week; I didn’t think he would get over the play off loss so quickly – I actually thought he hit the front too soon!)whereas Tiger is someone just to watch (and I’m sure the tv companies will make sure we have to do plenty of that). From a betting proposition his price is a joke.

Not had a good look at Dubai yet, I might not bother seeing as I don’t want to risk my 100% European Tour record for the year ;)

  • richard cawe

i think a rookie will win this

  • chooky fowler

fist pump looked o/k to me at the chevron mark just wish it was me.I have no wins on tour so far.

  • Stube

Pebble is like a home for Tiger and he is in really good form so I expect a two shot victory for Tiger this week.

  • Frenchie

    Hunter Mahan

  • wanty.

agree with mr prokop tringale waiting to pounce.

  • Vincent D. Ryan

I think its the week for Matt Kuchar to finally put it all together, my second pick would be Mr. Woods, I think if he can clear his head, his skill level is still there.

  • Toby turner

    Bill haas,Dustin Johnson,Phil mickelson,rickie fowler,Jason day

  • DC

To everybody that keeps saying “Tiger will contend but won’t win,” playing it safe and that one person WONT win is a cop out. You have little chance of being wrong and you sound like a bunch of wimps that don’t have the go nads to pick a winner and want to sound intelligent. Get off the computer and go play with your lady parts.

  • Andy

George McNeill will break through soon. It just might be this week!

  • DC

Remember this day…I’ll be the only one on here to have the balls to say, “Tiger Woods will win at least 5 Tournaments this year including his first this week.” Haters beware, we’re about to go back to the time before 2009, Tiger will get most of the face time on TV. You may hate this but the guys on Tour don’t. He brings in the huge paychecks that they are seeing now.

  • DC

Fun fact, I dated Kyle Stanley’s sister Kristen when I was a senior in high school ;)

  • Chris Stratton

I’m rooting for my hometown kid, Bryce Molder and agree he’s a good pick based on recent track record, both at the Clambake and on Tour generally. I hope he’s got the 14th worked out – it’s cost him significant cash and points the past couple of outings. He loves Pebble and the Monterey Peninsula and carded his first Tour win last fall at the Frys 20 miles away. I root for him every week he plays and like him as a pick outright this week.

Would enjoy seeing a strong outing by Tiger and Phil this week, and agree Dustin and Points are solid picks.

  • Jackson York

Bacardi Jim..What is your starting line up looking like?
    A: Levin
    B: Points, Johnson
    C: Baddeley
    ?

  • Jono

    At the AT&T

    Molder,
    Walker,
And Maggert all have chances of a strong week.

Would avoid Mahan after the travel.

  • Bacardi Jim

Josh and others: Snedeker withdrew this week.

Jackson York: I’m starting Trahan in the C slot right now, with Badds on the bench. I also ditched Woods for Molder. BUTTT… like last week, I haven’t looked yet at tee times and don’t know who is starting on which course. It makes a significant difference this week. That’s my homework for after work this week. If you wish, I’ll post my final starters tonight, but it likely won’t be until around 9 pm CST.

  • JS

    Woods!
Obviously! Do you really need arguments?? Seriously? Ok, a almost tunned up new swing, mind flowing process and the fourth start in individual tournament with all that going!

  • Bacardi Jim

Or, you can do your own research. While I see no mention of it in any of this year’s golf columns, I seem to recall that I’ve read previously that Spyglass plays over s shot more difficult than the other two courses. So I’ll be trying to avoid starting players at Spyglass.

  • TJ

DC, I sentenced that on eback in November and after the Frys.com too: Tiger will have at least 5 wins in 2012, one Major at least and #1 before The Open (The US Open, I mean). My pick 1 and done this week in TIGER. All reasons have been posted already. He’s finning it all up.

  • Bacardi Jim

“s shot” should read “a shot.”

  • Tiger's Done

Tiger will get the most face time even if he comes in 55th. So sad! I say he’ll have a top ten but won’t be a contender on Sunday as he will go out early and shoot a 63 and be done by the time the classy golf pros start. Dustin, Phil, Pat Perez and VJ are the top 4.

  • Top 4

Tiger will get the most face time even if he comes in 55th. So sad! I say he’ll have a top ten but won’t be a contender on Sunday as he will go out early and shoot a 63 and be done by the time the real golf pros start. Dustin, Phil, Pat Perez and VJ are the top 4.

  • Mr Burns

    Watch out for Jeff Maggert

  • rrowrow

I can’t believe people are still picking Dustin Johnson. I wonder how long it’s going to take people to notice that this guy is completely overrated. He has no short game at all. Muscle doesn’t win it anymore on this tour.

  • RC

    Hey DC…

YOU are living in The Land of Oz if you think Tiger will win 5 this yr. and go back to playing like he ONCE did a few yrs. ago. You need to get over this guy. Tiger is on his “last legs” and this yr. will only show this.

Did Kyle’s sister have a nice black beard too?

  • BarryO

MIKE WEIR. ( this is just a feel-good pick ’cause I’m cheering for a guy who is on the long comeback trail from a bummer injury. ) Otherwise, I would be inclined to pick TIGER ( even though I don’t like him ….. )

  • Gil Patricks

My #1pick will always be Thomas Brent (Boo) Weekley. Come on BOO! YOU CAN DO IT.

  • John Soboleski

3-way playoff between Tiger,Watney and Molder with Tiger coming out on top.

  • Bill Mcc

    My picks are;
    1. James Driscoll in a playoff over Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson

  • David G.

If David Duval dosen’t do something soon he probably should consider finding something else. I would like nothing better then to see him win or get more top tens. My question is how much does it mean to him to be a force again. Still follow his progress but am starting to have doubts.

  • Filipo

He is still “THE MAN”. He has tripled the gate at venues and raised the interest in GOLF ten fold. The love hate thing has put more golfing dollars into the industry than ever before. He will win.

  • gail

Amazing how no one has mentioned how Lee Westwwod needed to apologize after swearing on the 16th hole at Qatar. Everyone is quick to call Tiger a “pig” but I don’t hear anything when the microphones pick up someone else. My only surprise is the fact that anyone was watching him play, as I would have thought everyone would have been following a guy with a chance to win, like Daly….

  • ripperduggan

BAcardi-tough week last week. Nice call on Na though to bad he was on th bench. I’m still on the fence on the. B Pool.B,MOlder, D.A. Points,WOods and either D. J. Or H. Mahan. I just don’t know if Johnson has his game on yet to score on these courses. I know there records playing here. I would put Molder in though if I was you. GROUP C- A.baddeley either Estes, Maggert or Trahan. Thus is y I haven’t posted my team yet. This happens every week… lol

  • Henry CA

    Woods, Johnson, Phil

  • Frank Forth

Zach Johnson or Hunter Mahan with rookie Johnny Huh coming in second

  • stevie

Very difficult to pick this week with phil struggling probably go with rickie fowler or sang-moon bae.Although no fan of tiger it’s good to see him back.

  • Burgie Barriga

Pickin’ Woods is like the fans that pick the Cowboys and jump on the band wagon. Watch DiMarco, Watney, Molder, and Maggert play one of their BEST top ten outings and leave Phil and Tiger in the dust.

  • clive H

    JOHN MALLINGER AND DJ TRAHAN

  • Tony

Here is my picks this week:

    1. Dustin Johnson
    2. Tiger Woods
    3. Baddeley

  • Chuck

Duval will finally come to form this year.

Alwayshopeful: your prediction of top 5 this week is a stretch. Making the cut is as good as winning for him, but, he has been improving.
His ball striking has improved ten fold. If he keeps the blow up holes out of the rounds, he might surprise.

Filipo: triple the venue because of Duval???? not sure how true that is.

Either way, no questions he still has a strong following and well wishers aplenty….Go DD

  • Mike Onofryton

Some people need to look at the field before they post!!

!.Zach Johnson takes it home this week. I feel he will come through on Sunday this time.
    2.Tiger will contend
    3. Sean O’hair will be there too..

Garrigus to win playoff against Love.

  • yo

    DJ 3 times to be….wait and see…peace

  • Charles W Smith

Martin Laird.. C’mon the Scotsman!! :-)

  • greg c

    @Mark III

Why don’t you look at his fist pumps when he WON chevron?

  • Paddy's Back

Being Irish, I would have to say Harrington, as he is coming back to form and his game is coming back. Other tips would be:
    Hunter Mahan
    Charlie Wi
    JB Holmes

And of course, Tiger, if he has a good putting week.

  • JJ

Jim – glad to read I turned you on but sorry, I’m strictly for the ladies.

Totally undecided for my Yahoo team. At the moment I’m thinking

    A Na and O’Hair
B Molder, D Johnson, Woods and Fowler
    C Vijay and Pampling

Think the A group is very difficult to call as nobody leaps out as a certainty.

Regardless, whoever I leave on my bench will score much better than my starters.

  • Murz

    Go Weirsy Go!

  • karl

    i pick dusten johnson,tiger woods,zach johnson

  • Sean Smith

    Rory McIlroy!

  • Smitty

Kevin Chappell or Spencer Levin Whoever throws up least

  • Smitty

Mike Weir really? You Canadians are crazy!!!!

  • snake pliskin

Weir hasn’t played well for two years because of injury. everyone has forgotten about him..except his tour playing peers who all shook hands and checked his scar on the practice range. He’s feeling good. rooting for him to be comeback player of the year.Top ten would be a great start. He loves pebble and does well there

  • goupil

    tiger woods!!!

  • PhiloPhile

Tiger will win and contrary to his former playing style where he would start moving on Saturday, he will start moving from Day 1. If Tiger is not in the top 10 at the start of Day 2 then I doubt he will have the will to win. If, however, he is in the top 10 or leading then watch out for the return of that terrible Sunday Red coupled with a fist pump for a good measure. If he wins here then he will win Augusta too and Luke and Rory will quake in therir boots as they fly over.

  • Kenneth

Mike Weir…because he’s the only player I gave a damn about…GO WEIRSY GO!!!!

  • Hey

    PHILIPS MICKELSON wining!
    tiger woods t41!

  • Hey

    winning

  • ripperduggan

JJ- HEY BUDDY YOU HAVE SOME RISKY PICKS THIS WEEK..

  • John DiBattsta

Rocco Mediate will be in the mix if his back holds up

  • Bacardi Jim

Snake Pliskin–I heard you was dead. Oh, and it’s spelled “Plissken.”

  • ripperduggan

STILL ON THE FENCE WITH GROUP B- D. JOHNSON, OR MAHAN?????ANY SUGGESTIONS

  • Bacardi Jim

    ripper: QUIT SHOUTING!!!!!

And take them both. I am.

  • DT

ripperduggan – I’d go with Dustin Johnson cause Mahan missed the cut at Qatar, and DJ won the event in 2009 and 2010.

  • Cr4zy Steve

    Anyone else going with Flores?

  • ripperduggan

BACARDI- 10/4 ON THE SHOUTING… LMAO.:-)
DT- I realize that Mahan Mich the cut last week in 50 mile an he winds.. Ma an also was runner up last year at this event but Your right D.J’s record here speaks for it self. Just don’t know if he is at the top of his game.

  • Bacardi Jim

ripper: DJ hasn’t been at the top of his game since the surgery. You’re right. However, coming into a tourney he’s won twice, I strongly feel that this week he’ll return to the top of his game. This is his comfort zone. Might as well have his grandma waiting for him every third hole with a cup of hot cocoa. He doesn’t have to swing for the fences at Pebble…. and he knows that.

  • Tony

Lee Janzen comes out from the dark side. Heard it here first!

  • Alvin

The feel good picks for me are Weir and JB Holmes, but neither will contend this week. Tiger looks good and is an easy pick, and I think both Fowler and Zach Johnson have a good week too. Overall I pick Tiger to win

  • ripperduggan

    FINAL YAHOO FANTASY LINE UP
    GROUP A- S. Levin, R. Sabbatini
    GROUP B- T. Woods, D. Johnson, B. Molder, H. Mahan
    GROUP C- P.Perez, J. Maggert

  • Bacardi Jim

    ripper: Starting Tiger tomorrow?

  • Bacardi Jim

ripper: And leaving out the defending champ who has also has two Top 10s in four tourneys this year and only one round over par (a hideous 73) in 16 rounds this year? (8 of those 16 rounds in the 60s)

  • ripperduggan

Ya I realize Tiger has less then stellar opening round scoring averafe . I just have a hunch. Who knows last week I switched my whole team in the middle of the night. Hoping that I don’t do the same thing. Had Mahan in the but he may need a round to get back in the time zone. Lol

  • ripperduggan

Bacard.I hate picking te defending champs as they have never worked out for me. I had Points until today then put Molder in to replace him.

  • Sam Garcia

    1.Tiger 2.molder 3.johnson 4.fowler 5.mahan 6.watney 7.stallings 8,Zach johnson 9.garrigus 10. ogilvy

  • Bacardi Jim

The one down-(or is it an up-?)side to Points is that he will have a hugely increased batch of media attention as the defending champ and as Bill Murray’s partner. Tiger will still get the lion’s share (weird confluence of felines) of attention, but Points could get more TV time than Phil this week. Especially if he starts well. It’s an X-factor that I suspect he’ll eat up. As will Murray, who is generally relegated to a total of 8 minutes of screen time per tourney.

  • Sam Garcia

Tiger/Romo, i pick that duo look,s invensible, on the paper tiger looks good on the range and he,s feel,s healty and strong he can beat this field the others run for the second place and they,s know that, when woods come,s out the others golfers feels fear and that,s is intimidation well we took again sunday good luck…

  • Bacardi Jim

I believe that Sam Garcia has been rendered commatose.

  • Jackson York

    Bacardi Jim…who you starting tomorrow?

  • Bacardi Jim

    And possibly functionally illiterate.

Ripper: It was a tough final choice for me between Mahan and Tiger. Perhaps I was swayed by a reticence to have both Phil and Tiger on my team in the same week.

Primarily it came down to the difference between playing well in the desert and playing well on the Pacific. Tiger has shown that he can NOW play well in the desert. mahan has spent the last two years showing that he can play well anywhere.

  • Bacardi Jim

Jackson York: I already posted my starters. Scroll up.

  • Jackson York

Sorry..what time did you pst it? I scrolled up but didn’t find anything..

  • Bacardi Jim

That one is also “awaiting moderation.”

    Try this:

Thus my starters for tomorrow will be:
    A–Levin
    B–Points, Johnson
    C–Baddeley

  • Bacardi Jim

Baddeley because Trahan has a late start time at Spyglass. Double-whammy.

  • ripperduggan

BACARDI- it seems that you have a fan. Lol! Jackson wants you to help him get up into the 90+%. The both of us are in! I really did struggle w Points thought maybe w the the extra attention, interviews and all the media through that start of the week he could be wear in out. He had his worst finish of the year last week. Maybe I just looking for a excuse of why I took him out cause like I said I had him until today when I replaced him w B. Molder. cheers and see you in the pool…..

  • ripperduggan

BACARDI – I’m also thinking that Woods is going to try to go low out of the gate to try to get him and Romo going. Romo well help him play better ii’m thinking

  • Don

Most of you people are just guessing, or a case of wishful thinking at best. There will be only one winner and that will be the golfer with the best score!! If you wish in one hand and —– in the other, I am sure you know which one will get full the fastest!!

  • Scott

    Camron Tringale

  • bluenose

    Hey everyone,

What is Sean O’hair’s record like at Pebble…think he is going to have a good year

  • Rusty

Nick Watney will have a great week

  • ripperduggan

    BLUENOSE- O’Hair has a T45, T2, and a 17 the place finish in the 3 tourneys he’s entered…

  • JJ

Ripper – risky picks yes, but I’m not going to make up any ground on you guys if I pick the same players. Besides, I’m confident I’ve got the top 6 places (at least) covered :-D

  • hao

    November 2nd, 2011 6:21 pm

very interested to see hao rory goes this week,i think with the other half watching it might be too much pressure for him to handle. it would also be good to see the old man sweep away the two broomheads. good luck westy.

  • andrew fenton

if mulligans allowed back me with this mode of play you can get at least 15 under on ps3

  • andrew fenton

…………per round of course………seriously what about an horses for courses pick oberholser top 10 finish or on a lighter note tin cup /gilmore/bagger vance

  • K-Lo

Why is no-one mentioning Maggert?? He’s playing his best golf in years and is tidy at this event

  • jerry the astronaut

John Huh.Would have placed last week and been in a playoff 2 weeks ago if he had beaten 70 in his final round.100/1….80/1. MUST be backed each way.I also like dj trahan at 66/1.Cannot see tiger winning this week.

  • tony testa

A rookie will win this tournament and the best rookie from last year was Jason Kokrak. Hence; 1.J. Kokrak
    2.K Na
    3.D.A.Points

  • Butch

    Top 5
    Tiger
    Z Johnson
    Huh
    Harrington
    Maggert

  • Cliff

Brendan Steele is ready to roll.Bjorn will post a top finish in Dubai.

  • woc

Everybody seems to be forgeting Brendan Steele….Equal low round on Sunday

    My Picks..Steele
    Sneds
    Tringale

  • woc

I have backed Sneds heavily to win the Masters….67/1…great value

  • Billy English

    It’s easy – Harris English!

  • Hank "D"

A lot of noise out there for some guys that will not make the cut. While I always pull for Phil, he has seen his best days, and I can’t pull for Tiger, although he too has seen his nest days, This weeks choice is someone who is playing great golf so far this year – JOHN ROLLINS.

  • Desmond

My pick? Anyone but scumbag Woods.

  • Mario

I know I must me a bit crazy, but I still have hope for Duval. It seems like he wants to win again, but his game just isn’t there. Anyway, it would be great to see him win or at least place in the top five.

  • Bill - Fresno

    Watney / Chappell / Phil

    I’m hoping Romo beats Tiger!

  • Brian-Washington

Come on we all Know Tiger is back…..I think Hunter Mahan and Branden Steele make it close.

  • Bill

    Ted Potter Jr.

  • photographyforgolf.com

Spencer Levin and outsider Brendan Steele

  • Doug

Molder wins with Baddeley coming in 2nd

  • Bacardi Jim

    woc: Sneds withdrew on Tuesday.

  • Bacardi Jim

JJ: This week will be the first that we three don’t all have nearly identical teams. It will be interesting to see how you fare out there on your own. ;)

  • Bacardi Jim

Butch, Jerry the Astronaut: Se my earlier comments regarding John Huh. It’s one thing for him to be able to show up and learn a new course so quickly, the way he has done the last two weeks–with astonishing success. But this week, he’s confronting THREE new courses. I just feel that this is too big a mountain for him to climb this week.

K-lo: If you look back, you’ll see that a couple of us DID mention Maggert, and that I said I was taking him in the GolfChannel fantasy game. He’s a solid pick for the Top Ten, though not as a winner.

  • charles

    TWO WORDS: JIM FURYK

  • Bacardi Jim

Andrew Fenton: I don’t have a PS3, I play the PC TW08 game. And I AVERAGE -13 on Pebble Beach–without mulligans. I’ve scored as low as -19 there. Of course, you are only playing the Ocean (Host) Course in the video game, not Spyglass Hill or Monterrey Peninsula or Poppy Hills (not in the current rotation).

  • Sir Nick Faldo

    Dear Mr. Bacardi Jim:

Can you please explain why you are selecting so many people. Is it some kind of pool that you partiicipate in? It seems to me that you should only select one winner, not several. But I could possibly be missing something here.

    Thank you very kindly.

  • Bacardi Jim

Nick Sir Nick (as Jim Nantz called him for two years): My selections are based on the format of the Yahoo! fantasy game, in which you select 8 golfers for your weekly team, culled from three different “levels” of players. A fair number of regulars here participate in this game, and I offer my insights into choosing the best A, B and C players. That discussion might actually involve mentioning as many as 12-15 different golfers.

However, if you scroll back to my initial post, you note that I DID pick an overall winner, as I do every week. This week, I chose D.A. Points. Not just because he is the defending champion, but because of his performance so far this year.

  • Bacardi Jim

JJ: Pampling is currently -2 playing on MP. Nice pick!

  • Rusty

Nick Wantey said him from start and think he will go on and win this tourney by 4 shots and John Huh in top 5 and d j top 10

  • Burgie Barriga

So far, so good picking Watney. Mahan, Molder, Points, and Stroud will be moving up later. Is Tiger and Phil in the dust yet?

  • Jim Stats

    Mike III

Tiger still has a mathematical chance of becoming the #1 player in the world before he plays at the Masters. And yes he practically needs to win every tournament he plays in.

  • Bacardi Jim

I think Dustin Johnson has answered the question of whether or not he’s “healthy.”

  • JJ

    Nearly missed this!!!

“JJ: This week will be the first that we three don’t all have nearly identical teams. It will be interesting to see how you fare out there on your own. ;) ”

Well day 1 over and I’m doing very nicely thank you :D
