WOW WEE! I wish I were going to be there to see. I’ll be there in spirit. Hope Bill Murray hits a hole in one on PB #7! :)
PS Bill, please watch out for falling trees.
Dear Tiger, John Daly is SUPER jealous I’ll bet. Please give Romo a hug for him. :)
i asked this question once before but didn’t seem to get an answer.
does the pro get to choose his partner in the pro-am (or just high profile pros)?
I wish one of these years CBS would explain how the pairings work, which amateurs are playing (first and last name would be helpful) and how many amateurs are left playing on Sunday?
Please list amateurs full names and partner
Bob,
You can find that list here:
http://www.attpbgolf.com/ATT-PB-Pro-Am-Pairings-2012.pdf
The number after the group’s name is the Am’s handicap.
@ sandbelt– the committee at Pebble will decide who plays with whom. This year it has been decided that you will play with a chicken. Please arrive no later than 4 am. as after that, your bird will be awake and ready for your game.
good luck sir
Sandbelt & Golf 90 – The 60 best pros plus the 25 best pro-am teams make the Saturday Cut, after 3 rounds (pros on the 25 best teams may already be top 60 pros, which will lower the number of pros after the cut). As far as they explain, the pros can sugest who they want to play (provided the amateur wishes the same) and the comittee won’t oppose that. Otherwise, they make the pairings (you don’t ask a partner from the menu, they give you one).
@ pebble committee
You deserve a raise and promotion for your fast and decisive answer to sandbelt. Do you have any free passes left, even for Thursday.
thanks for the laughs!
Of course Tiger is on PB on Saturday for CBS, maybe that will help keep Murray and Romano off the coverage.
Pairings are interesting. My guess, and its probably a wild guess, is how the pro has done in this tournament in the past. That would explain why Don Chaedle is paired with Matt Jones.
Thank you Golfergal
The pro’s/celebs have the option to pick. For example, Andy Garcia and Paul Stankowski play together every year. Guarantee that Tiger hand picked Romo, etc. If you dont pick, then the committee picks for you.
I wonder who the biggest celebrity sandbagger will be this year. Andy Garcia – Again???
How many years will Andy Garcia be asked to play? This guys hasn’t done anything noteworthy in 15 years, and who wants to watch a dried-up actor with a 20 handicap play golf? Doesn’t anyone want to play this event?
I do!!
Noteworthy here is that Tiger Woods will be playing off the 10th tee on Saturday at Pebble Beach. TV coverage will kick in while he’s on the front nine which will be a first look for many. Looking forward to it …. if he’s in contention that is.
disappointed that kenny g will not be part of saturday tv coverage. What’s the over under on # of times Jim Nantz mentions something to do with “everyone loving Raymond” when the crowd cheers for Ray Romano?
Love Raymond Hate nantz!!
can’t wait for the CBS swing vision breakdown of Chris O’Donnell’s swing with Peter Kostis. Look forward to it every year.
TJ: Minor clarification – of the pros, the Top 60 (+ ties) do play on Sunday, but the Top 70 (+ ties) are considered to have made the cut (and all of them get a check and FEDEX Cup points). Those in between will get the dreaded “MDF” after their 3rd round score (Made cut, Did not Finish).
thanks for answering my question regarding pro-am partners.
this is a painful tournament to watch, i usually give up on the telecast and turn the tv off.
most of the celebs are company execs, only their families want to see them.
this event is stale.
Sandbelt….good call, and exactly the way many people feel about this event. It is ruined by the amateurs (although Romo is a player) and it does make it unwatchable. The amazing thing is the level of ego shown by the amateurs, who are “slashers” when it comes to golf. Do they really think we want to see them play? In my opinion, they should play with the Hollywood folks on Tuesday and Wednesday, and then have only the pros play the rest of the event. The tour players wouldn’t mind one extra day, considering they normally play a pro-am on Wednesdays, as playing Pebble would be fun for them. It’s the agony of 6 hour rounds with beaters that makes the event difficult to watch. Isn’t bill Murray’s act a little old?
Don’t watch!!!! If you don’t like…
I hate to do it but I agree with Gail this time!! Bill Murray’s antics have reached fossilic proportion! He’s not funny and can’t really golf. They should have 2 crews filming and show the pros and make a special of the amateurs for golf channel if you want to watch it. But it should be Tuesday by themselves and final day Wednesday with the pros.
Don, i don’t like, that’s why i don’t watch.
actually, upon reflection, i’d rather watch the execs than those past-their-use-by-date celebs.
Brent….let’s hope Tiger is out of the mix by then. Would love the coverage to come on and see +3 next to his name.
I sure hope Belichick wears his hoodie.
Hopefully, I can watch someone like Andy Garcia carving a 5-wood into a par 5 at Poppy from 155 yards with his 6th shot. That’s exactly why I’m tuning in! Maybe I should go watch the ladies at my home track play nine, as the action is the same, and I get to see it in person!

Hey there X24 (not SO hot) If Bill Murray can’t golf then how do you explain the FACT that he WON the tourney last year. The celebs playing with the pros is the history of this event. It always been this way & always should be. Wishing I were there in person. Have a GREAT week YOU ALL!
Next year it will be:
Chinese and Japanese.
Hindu and Muslim.
Crack addicts and Musicians.
hahahahahahAHAHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAA
Not funny P.B.
Kim…don’t you think he WON the event based on the shots he was getting from his handicap? You don’t think for a minute he actually played better than the rest of the amateurs, do you? Getting strokes in golf is beyond the great equalizer, as maybe Bill got more than he deserved?
I don’t respond to Kim, anyone who starts their comment with “WOW WEE” just doesn’t deserve a response in my grown up book.
Wow what a grouping for Bud Cauley! Tour rookie out of Alabama and he gets to play with Nick Saban, and Bill Belicheck, at Pebble Beach! Not sure that a Bucket list could include that pairing! I will say that Bud is more excited to play with those to then ANY celebrity in the field!
You’d say WOW WEE too if you’d seen them play live & in person at Pebble Beach. Best wishes.
there are no real bad players out there gail and others critisizing amateur players. they need to have an 18 handicap or less and there are many in the field with a single digit handicap and even a few scratch players. the handicap system is a part of the game and has been for a long time to give the “not so good” players a chance to compete against the better players. Bill Murray is a better player than his 15 handicap (it’s usually around here every year). I have seen him put backspin on the ball many times, hole out for eagle with a wedge and started last year’s Competition hole 1; Birdie, hole 2; Birdie. If he didn’t mess around so much he isnt that bad a player. There’s definately worse out there. Such as Andy Garcia who looks like a very poor player from tee to green but the commentators keep saying he has an excellent short game that keeps his score more respectable.
Oh Joy – Another week, another Tiger Woods show
Hey? Didn’t this guy recently choke with a Sunday lead? From 10 fairways and 16 greens on average rounds 1 thru 3 to just 4 fairways and 6 greens on the final Sunday in Abu Dhabi.
This was quite simply the biggest decline of a player’s game from 1 round to the next I have EVER SEEN. From a Saturday 6 under 66 to a huge struggle and a scrambled round of 72.
Tiger Who?
The other day the PGA Tour asked a question;
“When will Tiger Woods win again on TOUR”?
I have an answer on where he has a chance of winning but of course the way he struggles on Sundays these days, that isn’t guaranteed.
Possible Victores for Woods in 2012;
- Accenture Match Play
- WGC Event at Firestone
- Chevron World Challenge
Notice anything here?
For those who didn’t notice a trend in my locations of where TW “might” win in 2012, the answer is; LIMITED FIELD EVENTS.
One of the many TW followers was on another app the other day and said “his driving is looking good, his iron play is looking sharp and his putting stroke looks better than ever”
Did this person watch Round 1 in Abu Dhabi?
Tiger Woods had just the 35 Putts this round.
I could Putt better than that Left Handed and using a 3 Iron. (I’m right handed btw)
Yea, I get to cheer for Aaron Rodgers again before football season lol
Most of those guys would be playing off 27 using the old clubs
I see Tommy Gainey has made a speedy recovery from his apparent “Flu” last week. Why couldn’t he have just been honest with us and said he Withdrew because he was playing such poor golf and didn’t want to come back the next day?
It’s Dustin Johnson all over again after he 4 putted from just 15 feet on the 17th green at Palmer Private in the Humana he suddently had a Limp and a sore back, then played the following week at Torrey.
PS. Are Stewart Cink and/or Vijay Singh playing this week? They also withdrew last week saying they were ill/injured….
Oops and Chris Kirk also withdrew ill last week when he was about 10 over par and hitting less than 30% of the fairways and greens and at a score near 10 Over Par.
Is he playing this week too?
Dang, the great Aaron Oberholser, Mike Weir and Boo Weekley are playing this week?
These 3 gents are sure to make some noise!
Aaron should go back to his phoney predictions for the top 100 players to watch thing as one of the “3 wise men”. His golf is very mediocre right now and he is too prone to long term injury.
Mike has not been the same for about 5 years now. His driving last year was like a 20 handicapper. He was hitting beautiful low drives about 20 feet off the ground carving to the right trees 120 yards from the tee box rather frequently.
And Boo? Well what can you say about ole Boo? Just a Journeyman Professional really, but maybe he will do a little bit better if he stopped getting drunk and getting into cages to wrestle with Orangutangs? Geez the guy is fortunate he isn’t dead.
Sean Smith — concerning the possible wins for TW this year? In my list I have ONLY Chevron event…IF a sponsor decides to take the challenge.
I am still awaiting the answer to a question that was asked several times…what will it take to get TW back in the #1 spot in the OWGR?
His $$$ winnings so far in the Race to Dubai (if he joined the Tour) has him in a good spot to get another invitation to play again across the water, just to see if he can match what Luke Dionald did last year…Win the most money on both Tours.
Is the Wind going to blow this week at Pebble Beach?
According to his comments, TW has been Re-habbing and NOT practicing for the past two years.
I am anxiouslt awaiting his Health to allow him to practice so that he can beat those European guys who get all the luck in winning our PGA Tour events.
I don’t recall John Daly get suspended for failing to finish a Round (No Balls left)not to long ago.
He had a good Tournament last Abu Dhabi? Maybe he took extra “Balls” just in case???
I enjoy him playing. He adds that element of suspense whenever he is on the course. He would be a good match-up for Bill Murray at Pebble Beach?
john daly adds nothing to golf any longer.
his next start at pebble could be as a celeb.
Hope Romo is a better golfer than he is a QB. Why the heck isn’t Brees playing this year?
Tiger and Romo = Choke ! like always
Schuyler —- Don’t worry about the noteable Groups picked by the panel to watch. I bet the Fowler-Johnson-Mickelson Group will draw the most followers.
I feel sorry for Kyle Stanley losing last week when he Teed-off on the 18th and threw the game away. Hopefully, once he starts on Thurday, he will not let the past become a problem this week. After saying that, I don’t think he is going to win this time.
If Chopra can repeat some of his Aces this week, he will be worth watching?
Rickie should be ready for a victory at the Beach this week.
Woods has lost the “Tiger” in himself since his last win 2 1/2 years ago at the BMW Championship, so don’t expect him top the Leaderboard because he is not 100% healthy yet. The best you can expect from “Meow” Woods this week is to see him past Mickelson in the OWGR rankings when the points are given out on Sunday.
Scott —- Here’s what I got on Luke and Tiger playing in the same Tournaments in 2011:
Wk #9 – Accenture Match Play,
Luke Won – Tiger T33
Wk #11 – WGC Cadillac,
Luke T6 – Tiger T10
Wk #15 Masters,
Both T4
Wk #20 – The Players,
Luke T4 – Tiger WD after 9 holes
Wk #32 WGC Bridgestone,
Luke T2 – Tiger T37
Wk #33 – PGA Championship,
Luke T8 – Tiger MC
Six Tournaments – Luke 5 and One Tie (Masters).
The fact that Tiger didn’t finish at the Players means Luke beat him.
Luke didn’t play in the Farmers Insurance or Arnold Palmer’s Invitational as you mentioned in your last comment.
Maybe you shouldn’t count any Tournaments that Tiger wasn’t 100% healthy or changing his swing? That will only account for Five of the
2012 TIGER VS DONALD
T/3 ” T/48
MORE TO FOLLOW MIKE
Kim thinks amateurs win without handicaps and What? thinks that anyone who puts backspin on the ball is a “player.” What has happened to this site? Is there anyone out there to post who actually knows something about the game? Could make this more interesting, rather than reading all these jokes….
does it matter that we all like to play games when the time now requires gods love?
