Points under radar in defense

By Brian Wacker, PGATOUR.COM

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — D.A. Points is the defending champion at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, though he’s not exactly headlining things around here.

“There are pictures of Bill [Murray] everywhere,” Points said. “I’m driving down the highway, I see a billboard, there’s Bill. There is Tiger. I’m like, ‘Where am I?’”

Murray of course teamed with Points to win the celebrity competition here last year, while Tiger Woods is making his PGA TOUR season debut this week.

“It’s a little disheartening because it’s my first win out here and I’ve been around a while,” Points continued. “But the celebrities obviously make this even a larger-than-life event sometimes.

“I’m a little bummed out that I didn’t get a picture somewhere, but at the same time Bill also won, and he’s been coming here a long time and is a well-deserving champion.”

Despite getting his first career victory here a year ago, Points’ expectations haven’t changed much — “[They’re] probably too high,” he said. “Of course I want to win.”

Coincidentally, Points is playing about as well as he was a year ago coming into this event. Last year, Points finished fifth at Torrey Pines and tied for 18th in Phoenix. This year, he tied for sixth in Honolulu and eighth at Torrey Pines.

geez man, it’s GOLF. it’s not like you have to actually work at a lousy job you hate, like most of the world has to do. you are absurdly over-paid & over-adulated, so shut the f__k up & stop feeling sorry for yourself.

  • Will o'the Glen

everybody likes to get a little recognition for their accomplishments, so I understand D.A. being a bit disappointed. Look at tit this way, though, D.A. — if you’re under the radar, you can sneak up on another win!

  • Bill Owen

I don’t blame D.A. for feeling slighted.I have never seen a defending champion of a tour event treated with so little respect.Come on AT&T and PGA, give D.A. his “props”

  • Mark III

OK D.A. I get your Points?

  • kelprod

He is not serious, is he? With all due respect to DA Points….NOBODY is going to that event to watch him play. And I mean….NOBODY!

  • RG

Like the saying goes, “Even D.A.Points doesn’t know who D.A.Points is”. Sorry kid, I follow the PGA religiously and even I forgot you won last year. Maybe win it again or win a major and you’ll get some respect. Oterwise, take it like a man son.

  • Sean

@kelprod – not true – I’m going to watch my uncle specifically, so lay off on the NOBODY crap
@RG – you follow it religiously yet forget a tourney winner, lol. I follow it religiously and could list every winner for you from last year in a matter of minutes if you were ever so lucky to sit down with me
@everyone – does nobody “get” tongue in cheek humor anymore? sarcasm? Look who his playing partner is and you MIGHT begin to understand that he was pulling a “Bill Murray” on the interviewer!!!

  • MrTour

Hey Sean, maybe you and the others will recognize this quote from the Bill Murray movie Stripes… “Lighten up , Francis!

  • fuzzy 2

My question for all of you is….who and what the hell is Bill Murray ? Take out “Caddyshack” and what else is there ? And he certainly is not funny .

  • marco labrador

I cannot understand you guys: Tiger finishes 3rd and he is not doing well. Points finished 6th and 8th and he gets all the attention.

  • Rich

I was at the Phoenix Open and D.A. & Rickie Fowler were the only Pro’s kind enough to give me their autograph. I came all the way from Omaha to get an autograph of any of them who would give just a little attention, but what do you know the rest were just big ego busters.

  • J.

Tiger is on the billboard because the greatest player in the world forever is also the greatest role model in the world forever. Tiger pushed thru more cultural barriers than any other athlete, brought training and workouts to the game, established charities, made hundreds of pros millionaires, personally donated millions and helped the tour donate more millions than anybody to worthy charities. Oh, and he plays golf too. That might be why he gets more publicity than Mr. Points.

  • Gord

Why do they call you fuzzy2,is it because your memory is a little foggy. Have you ever heard of Saturday Night Live, Bill Murray was on it at its peak with the likes of John Beluhi, Dan Akroid,Steve Martin,Jane Curtain just to name a few, how about Ghost Busters, Stripes, Charlies Angels, Mad Dog & Glory, Ground Hog Day, What About Bob, Scrooged and The Razors Edge just to name a few or shall we go on. This is who and what Bill Murray is, a Canadian icon. So who & what the hell is a fuzzy2

  • Bobby

If they put a picture of D.A. on a billboard then nobody would even know who he is. They want to sell tickets with major stars pictures. Sorry D.A. you are going to have to win a few more tournament and majors to get that recognition.

  • Greg

That’s funny DA.You are taking yourself to seriously. You are one of many.Bill and Tiger are one of a kind.

  • Peter

Don’t he know one win can’t make him as a king. Win more might get fans’ attention.

  • Dan

    Pitiful posts guys.

  • Dan

Anytime you want, there are millions who will gladly trade places with you and not care if their name is up in lights. You earn millions doing what most pay to do so complaining about it is a mute issue. Next time you head to the course think about the rest of us working eight to five in a job we don’t love and waiting till the week-end to play a little golf for fun. Geeees guy, use your head.

  • Robert

Coach Mike, If feeling sorry for yourself is annoying, then complaining about it is worse. Say something constructive.

  • Rhodes

Ah well, still the coolest name in sports.

  • Lloyd

DA Points whining = missed cut. Tiger is not a role model. How quickly we forget…
