Brian Wacker of PGATOUR.COM was on the scene and following Tiger’s round; Fred Albers was also inside the ropes for SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio. Here’s the exclusive online hole-by-hole coverage as it happened.

7:10 p.m. – Tiger Woods is five shots off the lead, but if you look at just the players who played at Spyglass Hill in Thursday’s first round, he’s in much better shape.

Bob Estes 5-under 67 Tied for 10th

Greg Owen 4-under 68 Tied for 15th

7 p.m. – Sir Nick Faldo on the Golf Channel, discussing Tiger’s round: “All in all, I should think he’s pretty pleased with it.”

6:49 p.m. – The statistics indicate that Tiger had a good ball-striking round. He hit 11 of 14 fairways and 15 of 18 greens in regulation in shooting a 4-under 68 that included six birdies (three on par 5s) and two bogeys. His average driving distance was 312 yards. Tiger needed 29 putts for his round.

6:46 p.m. – At the par-4 ninth, Tiger’s closing hole, he found the fairway with his drive. His approach shot finds the green, 18 feet from the pin. Tiger missed the birdie putt and was angry with himself, hitting his leg with his hand. He had to settle for par, finishing his opening round with a 4-under 68, leaving him five shots off the lead. Playing partner Romo had a chance at a birdie but missed a 5-footer. For the Pro-Am, the team of Woods-Romo shot a 7-under 65, leaving the twosome six shots off the Pro-Am lead. (Tiger: 4 under 68)

6:25p.m. – At the par-4 eighth, one of the hardest holes on the course, Tiger hit his tee shot up right side of the fairway. His second shot found the green but about 40 feet away from the pin. Putting up the slope, he ran his birdie putt to within four feet of the pin and holed the putt to save par. Meanwhile, playing partner Romo just missed a birdie putt from 12 feet. One more hole left in his opening round. (Tiger: 4 under through 17).

6:06 p.m. – Tiger’s tee shot found the fairway at the par-5 seventh. He went for the green with his second shot, which nearly ended up in water but hung up on the bank. He then chipped up to 15 feet and rolled in the birdie putt. That’s his third birdie out of the four par-5 holes at Spyglass Hill. (Tiger: 4 under through 16)

5:45 p.m. – Tiger has yet to bounce back and regain the stroke lost from that bogey at the fourth. He parred the par-4 sixth, although he did in impressive fashion, making a lengthy putt to save par. (Tiger: 3 under through 15)

5:40 p.m – In terms of Pro-Am standings (click here), the team of Woods/Romo are 6 under. Given that Tiger is 3 under, that means Romo has contributed half of their total. And since Romo is playing as a scratch golfer, he doesn’t get the benefit of handicap holes. “Good for Tony Romo, who has a nice long off-season in front of him,” said PGA TOUR Radio’s John Maginnes.

5:28 p.m. – Brian Wacker reports: “As Tiger rolled his lengthy birdie putt on the par-3 fifth — it was well left of the hole — he muttered ‘Get in’ sarcastically before tapping in for par. The fans didn’t seem as discouraged with one of them yelling out for Tiger to ‘Win this thing, win it.’ Woods acknowledged it with a little nod.” (Tiger: 3 under through 14)

5:07 p.m. – Brian Wacker reports: “Tony Romo smashed a drive on the short par-4 fourth hole that drew a ‘Tony!’ from one member of the crowd. It also got some cackling from Tiger because Romo would’ve reached the green if his ball had just kicked off the hill it landed on. Tiger’s been loose and jovial with his playing partners all day and there have been a lot of jokes and laughs back and forth.”

5:05 p.m. – At the par-4 fourth, Tiger used iron off the tee and found the middle of the fairway. But his approach shot sailed over the flagstick and wound up in the waste area behind the green. He failed to get up-and-down for par. The bogey derails his momentum. Will he get it back as he comes to his closing holes? (Tiger: 3 under through 13)

4:59 p.m. – Just two players have a better score than Tiger Woods thus far on Spyglass Hill – and both of those players have finished their rounds. Nick Watney shot a 6-under 66 and Bob Estes shot a 5-under 67. Tiger is among several players at 4 under on Spyglass Hill, which is considered the toughest of the three courses in the rotation.

4:48 p.m. – At the par-3 third, Tiger’s tee shot finds the green but outside 25 feet from the pin. No problem – he rolls in the lengthy birdie putt. He’s now four shots off the lead. (Tiger: 4 under through 12)

4:38 p.m. – Fred Albers on Tiger’s performance thus far on the tee box: “He’s consistently hit cutters off the tee. … He has control of the golf ball.”

4:36 p.m. – At the par-4 second, Tiger’s approach shot with a wedge landed in the fringe on the back of the green. He opted for putter from there but his putt steamed five feet by the hole. Tiger rolled in the putt to save par. (Tiger: 3 under through 11)

4:17 p.m. – Brian Wacker reports: “Tony Romo had a similar shot to that of Tiger on No. 1, but his flop rolled well past the hole. No matter. He drained a long birdie putt from the edge of the green that veered left into the hole, with Romo raising his right fist in the air as it dropped and the crowd roared.”

4:17 p.m. – At the par-5 first, Tiger’s drive caught a portion of the fairway, giving him a chance to go for the green in two at the downhill hole. But his second shot comes in low, hits the green and fails to hold the putting surface. He hit a big flop shot coming back – Fred Albers called it a “super flop” –- that rolled by the hole, leaving him a 10-footer comeback for birdie, which he rolled in. Tiger’s now five shots off the lead held by Ken Duke. (Tiger: 3 under through 10)

4 p.m. – Tiger hitting 75 percent of his fairways and 77.8 percent of his greens in regulation thus far.

3:56 p.m. – With Tiger making the turn, he’ll now spend the next few holes at Spyglass Hill playing next to the Pacific ocean, as the course turns toward the water. By the way, nine players on Spyglass Hill have better scores thus far than Tiger.

3:55 p.m. – Tiger highlight just posted on PGATOUR.COM. Watch his birdie on the 11th hole. Click here

Tiger takes aim at the No. 1 hole at Spyglass Hill.

3:54 p.m. – Brian Wacker reports: “Tiger just made the turn to the front nine at Spyglass at 2 under. There’s a huge swell of fans now and it’s evident the buzz around Tiger is back; a couple of fans overhead talking about the excitement factor he brings. He still has a ways to go, though, with four players topping the scoreboard at 7 under.”

3:47 p.m. – Using wedge from 129 yards, Tiger’s approach shot at the par-4 18th flew over the top of the flagstick and landed just off the green. He opts to chip for birdie and leaves himself a short putt to save par. He’ll make the turn five shots off the lead. Partner Tony Romo two-putted for par from 30 feet. (Tiger: 2 under through 9)

3:30 p.m. – At the par-4 17th, Tiger’s drive landed in the fairway. His approach shot landed past the hole and spun back to within 10 feet. He rolled in the birdie putt – it’s his first birdie since the 11th hole. Partner Tony Romo hit a long drive, but followed with a poor wedge for his second shot and settled for a disappointing par. (Tiger: 2 under through 8)

3:15 p.m. – At what Fred Albers called one of the most difficult par-4s in the tournament, Tiger Woods hits a drive down the middle of the fairway at the par-4 16th. He then follows with an approach shot to 20 feet, but can’t convert the birdie putt. as it lipped out. “Another big groan from the gallery,” reports Brian Wacker. Tiger has to settle for par. Meanwhile, Tony Romo hit into the trees with his opening drive, had to pitch out and suffered a double bogey. (Tiger: 1 under through 7)

3:02 p.m. – Brian Wacker reports: “Overheard inside the ropes: Tony Romo and Tiger’s caddie Joe LaCava talking football. LaCava is a die-hard Giants fan and Romo plays quarterback for the Cowboys. LaCava’s observation of the Cowboys: Romo doesn’t have enough talent around him. Not enough depth.”

2:50 p.m. – Golf World’s Ron Sirak just tweeted: “Good Tiger starts birdie-birdie at Spyglass; Bad Tiger plays next 3 holes +1. Following him is like following the stock market.”

2:48 p.m. – Tiger’s tee shot at the par-3 15th leaves him outside 25 feet for birdie. He missed the putt and settled for par. Romo also had a tap-in par after putting from the fringe. (Tiger: 1 under through 6)

2:44 p.m. – Brian Wacker reports: “It’s taco time on the 15th tee. That’s what they’re serving on the tee box. Tony Romo just devoured some carne asada.”

2:38 p.m. – Tiger’s third shot into the 14th landed just outside 15 feet, leaving him a birdie opportunity. But he missed the putt, forcing him to settle for par. Big groan from the crowd. He’s now six shots off the pace currently set by Nick Watney, who’s also playing Spyglass Hill. As for Romo? He birdied the hole. That’s now two consecutive holes he has provided the better score for his team. Romo is playing as a scratch golfer this week. (Tiger: 1 under through 5)

2:30 p.m. – Brian Wacker reports: “Heard from inside the ropes in Tiger’s group: ‘It’s 4th down and the Cowboys are going for it.’ That was in reference to Tony Romo, who went for the green in two at the par-5 14th, despite water right and bunkers left and no room for error. Romo landed safely, although just short of the green.”

2:25 p.m. – Brian Wacker reports: “Tiger’s certainly upset after hitting his tee shot left for the second straight hole, this time at the par-5 14th. The shot left him in the rough. According to his coach Sean Foley, Tiger’s miss is now left, which he feels is more correctable than when he used to miss right or worse yet both directions.”

2:18 p.m. – After laying up with his second shot, Tiger’s third shot ended 10 feet above the cup. Romo – using a belly putter, by the way – had a 35-foot birdie putt. Romo’s putt left him with a short par putt. Woods missed his par putt from 10 feet, as he suffered his first bogey of the round. Romo saved his team with par. (Tiger: 1 under through 4)

Tiger Woods in action on Thursday at Spyglass Hill.

2:10 p.m. – Brian Wacker reports: “Tiger just made his first real mistake at the par-4 13th with a tee shot into the left fairway bunker that left him an awkward stance. Because of that, he came up about 40 yards short of the pin on his approach. Still, he’s been spot on from tee to green most of the round. The wind is also starting to pick up just a touch as the course winds its way up away from the ocean. If Tiger can put up something like 2 under on Thursday, he should be in decent shape. Spyglass is definitely the toughest of the rotation.”

1:59 p.m. – At the par-3 12th, Tiger’s tee shot landed inside 20 feet. Meanwhile, Romo’s tee shot finished off the green, getting hung up in the grass that prevented it from slipping into the water hazard. Romo’s chip for birdie was not close. Said PGA TOUR Radio’s John Maginnes: “So far, Tony hasn’t needed to get out of the cart.” Tiger’s birdie attempt, a downhiller from right to left, just slipped past the hole, leaving him an easy tap-in for par. (Tiger: 2 under through 3)

1:45 p.m. – At the par-5 11th, Tiger hit a perfect drive, leaving him just 182 yards for his approach. Meanwhile, Romo also hit a big drive. Tiger, playing a draw with his approach shot, hit an effective shot that left him 14 feet for an eagle putt. Romo lost his approach shot to the right and found the greenside bunker. Tiger’s eagle putt just grazed the cup, leaving him a tap-in for birdie. (Tiger: 2 under through 2)

1:36 p.m. – Brian Wacker reports: "One interested observer among the masses: Tiger’s coach Sean Foley. One fan just came up to him and said Tiger’s hitting it ‘10 times better’ than when he saw him at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship a year ago. Foley agreed. The putter is also starting to come around for Woods, who’s been able to put in more reps now that he understands Foley’s swing changes better. He didn’t need it much on the 10th hole, though, after stuffing it to 3 feet for an easy birdie.”

1:26 p.m. – With an uphill lie, Tiger’s approach shot with a wedge at his first hole, the par-4 10th, rattled off the flagstick and ended 3 feet from the pin. Meanwhile, Romo’s approach landed in the front bunker, prompting PGA TOUR Network’s Fred Albers to playfully call it “an amateur play.” Tiger finished the hole by making the short birdie putt. (Tiger: 1 under through 1)

1:15 p.m. – Reports Brian Wacker: “Woods’ celebrity partner is Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. The two have played together a few times before and it didn’t take long for them to start chatting it up down the fairway. Also here before Woods teed off was his swing coach Sean Foley, who seemed pretty confident with the way Woods was hitting it coming into today.”

1:08 p.m. – Tiger uses a 3-wood off the tee for his first drive on TOUR in 2012. Although his drive hangs out to the right, he finds the edge of the fairway.  Arjun Atwal, the other TOUR member of the foursome, hit driver.

12:58 p.m. – Tiger’s tee time will be pushed back a few minutes due to slow play at Spyglass Hill. Expected to be less than a 10-minute delay. He was originally supposed to tee off at 1:01 p.m.

12:48 p.m. – Fred Albers reports that the gallery around the 10th tee box is “10 deep” with the Tiger/Romo group teeing off less than 15 minutes from now. Playing in the same group as Tiger is Arjun Atwal and amateur Danny Lane.

12:43 p.m. – Brian Wacker is following Tiger for PGATOUR.COM. He reports: “Getting around the Pebble Beach property can be tricky with its maze of roads and throngs of fans spread over three courses. Most of the attention this morning though is of course over at Spyglass Hill. Shuttle drivers, in fact, were lectured to be prepared early for the onslaught of media and other officials getting a ride over to the course. When Woods does tee off, he’ll do so in ideal conditions. There’s no wind and the skies bright with temperatures in the low 60s.”

12:38 p.m. – Fred Albers, reporting for SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio, will cover Tiger’s first round. He just reported that “conditions could not be any better” at Spyglass Hill and that “big galleries are out here.” He also noted that Tiger will begin his round on the 10th tee at Spyglass Hill, which “has a tree in the middle of the fairway.”

It is this ridiculous over coverage of Tiger that makes people hate tiger. You can’t blame tiger for it but unfortunately he is the one the hate is directed towards. To have a dedicated article here to discuss tiger’s round would be just fine….instead there have been 3 or 4 articles in less then 20 minutes.

  • X24 hot

That’s exactly the problem, people are stupid. It’s not tiger writing the articles. Hate the press. People aren’t taught to think anymore. They see it on tv or the Internet and its what they believe. I will never understand liking the kardashians and hating tiger woods. That is what’s wrong with this world.

  • jordan

    ^^^^now he is a hater

  • bill

You guys are deluded Do you not know that Tigers fans love him as they did all the greats before him Get help!!!!

  • DSSSSI

The people that complain are total hypocrits…they click the headline, read the print, click the comments, type in a comment…saying it’s ridiculous! All that effort for something they complain about but can’t stop from reading/commenting.

  • JP

X24 hot: all i am hearing from you is blar blar blar. Simple fact is if you don’t like him don’t read the page – don’t waste your time and energy bring people down go back to your hole and watch something that doesn’t require you to think too much! Come Tiger lets have another solid week!

  • AJ

The media created this monster. Sure, Tiger lived up to the hype, but even when he’s in 50th place, he’s all you hear about. If the media and the ridiculous fans didn’t continue this, then maybe some other players would get some attention and the Tiger obsession would at least simmer a little. What makes the fans even worse, Tiger could kill go on a shooting rampage, or cheat on his wife (oh wait), and they’d still treat him like a god. It’s really sad.

  • JD

I agree with Bill. If you are a fan, you want to see that many articles about him. I cant wait to see him come back and regain his #1 position in golf.

  • Lee

Scott- If you hate Tiger so much, why are you following Tiger live!?

  • longgeorge1

GO IN THE HOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – just adding to the intelligent conversation

  • Scott

DSSSSI – It is not hypocritical at all. Do I want to read about how Tiger does….sure what golf fan doesn’t want to? Do we need three articles in 10 minutes all basically saying nothing of interest…..no. All these articles could have been easily put into one article which would be updated as Tiger plays.

Would I be upset if they didn’t post anything about tiger unless he did something worth reporting….no.

I fully understand and accept that Tiger will get more coverage then other golfers but there is more coverage and then there is excessive coverage.

  • Scott

Lee – I don’ hate tiger at all…..I’ve said that several times. I hate the over coverage of tiger and the Tiger Fans that seem to think he is bigger than the sport itself.

  • Paul

I think there should be more of him on his game. Like shot by shot txting, for those of us that can not see the game.

  • Duane

Again Scott – Why are you on Tiger Live??? Normal people typically won’t indulge in things they hate….JS.

  • JohnP

Tiger is that much more fascinating since his personal difficulties. I am rooting for him to come back strong in golf as well as in life. He is showing a huge amount of psychological strength in all he has overcome so far.

    Go get ‘em Tiger!

  • PKD

@ Lee…. Tiger Woods IS bigger than the sport, itself. Just like Arnold Palmer and Bobby Jones. You don’t think that if they’d had the internet and PGA Tour.com back in Palmer’s or Jones’ day(s), people wouldn’t have been all over it?

  • pick

    Scott,
Don’t be retarded! Should the media dedicate a post to Jim Furyk’s first round? No, because nobody in their right mind would read it. I couldn’t care less to watch golf unless Tiger is playing and i’m an avid golfer and fan. Get real son!

  • Eddy

    Right on X24 hot.

  • PKD

    Sorry, that should’ve been @ Scott…

  • Viks

Tiger hit the flag with his second shot

  • Doug

Actually, I follow all the coverage of Tiger, whenever he plays. I take so much joy watching him fail. My perfect Saturday would be seeing Tiger watch the action from a tv as he missed the cut. Maybe if he would have spent more time talking to kids who loved him earlier in his career, instead of ignoring them time and time again, more people wouldnt hate him.

  • Stevo

Scott – You don’t have to click on the links to those articles, you know…

The thing that you need to understand is that Tiger gets this amount of coverage because the public has proven that it’s what they want. The people in charge of these websites aren’t stupid, they provide the content that gets the most hits, period.

  • thethinman

@PKD…that’s a great and obvious point!
    You are absolutely correct!!!
We would be “all over it.”

  • Lee

    Scott- sorry about that…

  • jordan

    Great start from tigerrrrr

  • X24 hot

Jp- you are the people I am speaking about. I am a tiger fan. You can’t even understand what I wrote? Scott I don’t think most of these guys can even read. We weren’t bashing tiger. It looks like eddy is the only one who actually read the posts and is a fan of tiger.

  • TJmac

Screw Tiger…I wanna know how Tony’s playing..

  • bill

Great way to watch No tv noise in your ear
I will be at Pebble Saturday. Cant wait

  • CC

AJ- Golf fans like to watch tiger because he is one of the greatest golfers of all time. We enjoy the sport and what he does between the ropes. I could care less what he does outside.

  • Viks

    -1 after 1 hole

  • Scott

pick – As I said….I don’t see a problem in having a dedicate article to tiger’s round. I do have a problem with three articles that could all be part of one. You may golf but its obvious you are not a golf fan or else you would care about watching golf without tiger. You have just shown you are nothing more then a Tiger Bum Chum……and your lips have a deserved spot on tiger’s arse.

PKD – Tiger is not bigger than golf….Palmer wasn’t, Jones wasnt, no golfer in the history of the sport is bigger than the game. If they had the internet and PGA Tour.com back then and they plastered Palmer and Jones everywhere like they do tiger then I would have a problem with it as well.

  • kwhite

Ok, in this modern tech age, how the heck is there not shotlink coverage on Spyglass? I feel sorry for some of you who only take the time to stir the turd! Get a life.

  • Ben

When your “Live” coverage has 15 minutes between updates… it is no longer live.

  • PKD

Yes, we all get it. We all can read. The media created the Tiger ‘monster’. Some people are put off by the seemingly obsessive coverage of Tiger, Tiger, Tiger. I am the biggest Tiger fan on the planet. If anybody else moved the needle like Tiger, they’d get the same attention. But, alas, they don’t.

  • Duane

Lets Go TDub! He’s going LOW today, I feel it….

  • Viks

I reading tweets on Twitter, a lot of updates here

  • Mike

go Romo! Go Cowboys! oh…..too late.

  • Tim

    Go get them Tiger!!!!

  • Scott

X24 hot – Can you see why I call some of these people Bum Chums now? You can be a Tiger Fan and still be a golf fan….you can’t be a bum chum and still be a golf fan.

I fully admit that I’m not a fan of Tiger but I am a fan of what he was able to accomplish and how great he once was. Do I cheer for him….no, but there are only maybe three or four golfers that I truly cheer for.

  • Sir Shaun

I see the FAKE! Golf fans are out in force tonight.

  • Lee

    Pick-YOU ARE SO RIGHT!

  • James

    YAAAA got Tigerr!!

  • James

    go*

  • it's GO TIME

Who do you “cheer” for Scott? Who are your favourite players?

  • X24 hot

Let’s get this straight, I AM A TIGER FAN!! But I agree with Scott. These guys don’t comprehend what they are reading. They see tigers name and everything is lost in a sea of Sunday red. The media is the problem, there are too many redundant stories and ridiculous questions. I don’t want to know them personally I want to watch them play.

  • Scott

PKD – enough with the move the needle crap. The only people who should care if he moves the needle are people that make money off of golf. Tiger fans and golf fans shouldn’t care one bit. The funny thing is he may move the needle but there is no direct evidence to link Tiger Woods to increased sales of golf equipment or increased golf participation in north america. He may move the needle but advertisers are not seeing increases in sales because of the needle moves. The simple answer is the Majority of Tiger Bum Chums don’t golf.

  • PKD

Scott – we’ll just agree to disagree. Jones, Palmer and Tiger ARE bigger than the game. In each of their eras, they, singlehandedly, brought golf to the masses. How many golfers got ticker tape parades back in Jones’ day? Who did people tune in to watch on Sunday afternoons during Palmer’s day?? What other golfer’s legion of fans had their own nickname? Tiger Woods has taken the sport to another level, entirely. Every player on Tour, today, has Tiger to thank that their wallets are so fat. That said, I agree that when Woods is gone, the game will go on. But, each of those players transcended the sport. Period.

  • James

this is the worst live coverage.. I want an update!

  • JohnP

I saw Tiger swing his 3-Woods yesterday and he definitely has his mojo working. At at Abu Dhabi, the new swing is starting to look natural and effortless.

And to the whiners, if you don’t like close coverage of Woods, please go complain about someplace other than this blog.

  • greg c

tiger has a 30ft putt for eagle at 11

  • DUP

Viks- who are you following on twitter to get the updates?

  • PKD

Scott, thanks. You just made my point for me. Non golfers don’t care about D.A. Points or Bill Haas. But, as you point out, they’re enthralled with Tiger Woods. I don’t ‘golf’, either. I play golf, every chance I get, though.

  • pick

Okay Scott, you’ve made your point! It’s obvious you’re the guy who watches the Nationwide tour on Golf Channel.

  • Tom O

where the heck are the updates… this is kinda baloney to purport you will present shot by shot updates.

  • Sir Shaun

This tread is been hijacked by Tiger Woods lovers not fans of Golf.. I’m out of here, GOOD LUCK Scott.

  • AES

Keep the Tiger updates coming, I’m at work and can’t follow it.

  • pick

..oh and yes i would love to be one of Tiger’s Mistresses or would it be Misters?

  • pete

yeah, I agree. Not really “live.” The leaderboard is quicker then these supposed “live updates”

  • Chris

This hole-by-hole coverage is garbage. It has been over 15 mns since the last update. With all the technology today, they should be updating every shot.

  • Keith

he is stillwaiting to tee off, play is incredibly slow on that course for some reason

  • James

Tiger’s the best, that’s why Shaun. It’s not his fault he’s probably the only human on the planet with the innate ability to make clutch putt after clutch putt. He always says after an interview ” well i just picked a line and told myself to commmit to it”. That’s all great and everything but it doesnt explain how they go in EVERY time! He has an X factor no one else has. That’s why he’s the most polarizing figure to watch. YOU DA MAN TIGER

  • Mike

I think part of this wall to wall coverage of Tiger is due to the fact that he’s been absent for so long. People (and the media) are excited about the possibility that Tiger will be in the mix again this year. My gosh, why wouldnt you want to see one of the all time greats. It may not happen again for a very long time.

  • Chris

    Scott,

If Jack Nicklous was playing in this day and age they would be covering him the same way they do Tiger.

  • Joey

What is the deal??? Why does the live coverage time keep getting pushed back? I mean what year is it?? and Tiger Woods is playing golf and its not available to see live?? This SUCKS!!

  • Scott

it’s GO TIME – My favorite player is Mike Weir. Not just because he is Canadian but because I do know him on a personal level. That’s why I cheer for him.

I will also cheer for John Daly when he plays. I’ve met John a few times at Canadian Opens and he has always made time and just chat with me.

I also cheer for Matt McQuillan because I know him on a personal level as well.

I also cheer for any Canadian because I’m proud to be Canadian.

I don’t cheer for or against people I don’t know on some personal level.

  • Jamey

Are there any live video feeds of this weeks tournament? This live coverage is nice, but video would be superb!

  • Chris

well, they should put that out there then. They also so let us know if Romo was able to get up and down. Garbage

  • greg c

    -2 thru 2

  • Scott

Chris – and I would dislike it as much as I dislike it with tiger.

  • Viks

    Birdie on 11, now -2

  • Chris

    for those wondering…-2 through 2

  • jordan

2 under through 2 tapped in for birdie

  • Tom O

I’m not just following Tiger but those playing SPG today do not have shot tracker. Shoot if Nicklaus were playing I’d be following him though. I follow the top 5 or so in the rankings plus favorite players. Why? because hitting a golf ball consistently within a few feet of where you want it – is one of the hardest things in life. the other thing – driving a race car at 200 MPH. they may not be “sports” but that take a skill set only God can endow!

  • Mike

The LIVE coverage isnt very LIVE, is it?

  • Lee

TJmac-I’m Dallas fan…Keep Tony away from Dallas and keep him on golf!!!

  • Keith

has about 20 feet for birdie on 3

  • Alvin

    JRG,

Thanks for the link! Much more timely updates!

  • g

you all are jelous of tiger because he is the best golfer to ever play the game and he gets more @ss then mennie’s meat market

  • Golfer

why do people comment on things they hate. Start commenting your favourite players and follow them. You will raise their statistic. Might be you will have a better day with your self. I never listen to Music I don’t like and I dont read about the artists.

  • brock smith

i once saw tiger wrestle a bear whilst eating a sandwich, and he beat the bear with an arm bar early in the first round. then i saw him fly around the world backwards, reversing time, to save a lady from an earthquake. if he was the starting qb for the dallas cowboys they would win the superbowl 17 times straight. he once had a staring contest with chuch norris, they called it a tie after 4 months, then found out chuck norris had gone blind. tiger woods!!

  • yohaan

these so called updates are a joke…cmon guys this is tiger woods, please update faster!

  • Dbacks

I want live video darn it

  • a

Dear pgatour.com: Let’s try for more than one update every 10 minutes, please…

  • Alvin

Golf.com has a live blog right now that JRG linked here in the comment section. It is shot by shot. The updates are slow though even in real time because the pace of play so far is abysmal

  • Keith

pace of play is ridiculously slow bc of foursomes and all the celebrity hacks playing

  • scott

The only reason I am on this site is to follow Tiger’s round – I love to play golf, I love to watch golf……to watch Tiger play. The rest of these guys are indistinguishable from each other.

  • Viks

    Par, remains on -2

  • Keith

Tiger missed a 20-footer for birdie on 12, still -2 through 3 holes

  • greg c

    tiger pars 12

  • brock smith

i heard that they were gonna ask tiger woods to be in the next mission impossible movie, but then it was too hard to write the script because no mission is impossible for tiger woods. they would re-name… “these missions are easy for me, what’s wrong with you tom cruise”. yet if they would have made it, it would have broken every record for opening sales for a movie.

  • Duane

At the risk of sounding redundant: Why is Scott on Tiger Live???? SCOTT IS A Hater…. It doesn’t take long to sniff em out…. He’s going low today, I feel it….

  • brock smith

when tiger’s daughter turns 18 i’m gonna marry here. who’s your daddy? tiger woods is already everybody’s daddy… i may as well make it official.

  • it's GO TIME

Scott, Weirsy as you know, is one of few guys to get the better of TW in a P/Cup singles match, he’s finally healthy again, he is likely to show up on L/Boards this season. Sort of an interesting parallel, Weir and
Woods. We’re starting to see some Maple Leafs on L/Boards, great for Canuck Golf.

  • Todd

Could the updating of this blog be any slower?

  • brock smith

rumor has it that tiger thought about declaring war on canada… but the entire country surrendered to him before they found out that the rumor was false and i had just made it up myself. but tiger was nice enough to let them keep the name Canada. but i think he may change the symbol to a marijuana leaf.

  • Todd

How is it live coverage if the results from the hole are posted 15 minutes after the player has actually completed the hole?

  • Scott

Duane – I fully admit I don’t like Tiger “the Person”. I don’t hate tiger “the Golfer”.

  • JohnP

Keep the updates coming, greg, thanks.

  • kevin

This coverage of tiger is awesome. Tiger woods is the only reason people watch golf. I personally would watch regardless, but tiger brings tons of attention to golf which is good. I wish they would provide video coverage online of tigers rounds that arent on tv, but thats just me.

  • Scott

it’s GO TIME – Weir is playing good. When I was talking to him last week he said he is hitting the ball better than he has in three years. He is no longer afraid of re-aggravating his elbow injury.

  • Ray

BOLD PREDICTION – TIGER WOODS WILL WIN THE 2012 MASTERS!!!

  • Golfsalty

Hey brock are you the next comedian? I think not!!

  • brock smith

you use a graphite shaft, i use a titanium shaft, tiger uses a plutonium shaft. i heard that they invented a newer more powerful steroid… and all it is is you inject yourself in the hide-quarters with a thimble full of tiger’s blood… you’ll be stronger, faster, better at everything in life… especially with the ladies. i’m checking my sources now on this news. turns out it’s all true.

  • Derek

Will we be able to watch this online at 3?

  • greg c

    tiger bogeys 13 -1 thru 4

  • NLH

    Go get them Tiger!!

  • Jason

Might as well wait for the Golf Channel at 3pm. These updates ar sloooooow!

  • brock smith

golfsalty, that hurt my feelings. :( i’m not trying to be a comedian… i’m giving straight news that i thought people would find interesting. i have inside information. very high profile stuff. i do like my pretzels salty… but not my golf. will salt give me an extra 7 yards on my drives? i’d do anything for 7 extra yards.

Tiger is golf’s biggest draw! Thank u Pgatour.com for this good coverage of a truly great. We may never have another one like him in this lifetime!

  • it's GO TIME

Good to hear that he’s confident, does he have to play Euro events prior to Augusta, or is he getting a little love from U.S. events?

  • Rob

Why does PGAtour.com say there is live coverage when really it’s a blog following Tiger? where is the video feed????

  • Derek

That’s what i’m trying to find! Live coverage of a guy blogging about tiger isn’t going to cut it.

  • rabia azam

  • Bob

I’m following Tiger because of his new bag sponsor “Fuse Science”. A start up company. Check them out. If Tiger’s investment people thought it was good for him, it’s worth a chance for me too @ .36 cents/share. Go Tiger – Go Fuse!!

  • Dave

Why is the golf channel only showing the pebble beach course? I tuned in to watch Tiger not any of these other people they are showing!!!!!

  • JP

i can’t get enough tiger. i need more. they should actually have a twitter feed following his twitter feed that updates and lets us know whenever tiger updates his twitter feed. i’d totally follow that feed.

  • Nole

Golf channel spends all day talking about Tiger’s debut, but they haven’t shown him at all 45 minutes into their coverage…. Very disappointing poor coverage…

  • Nole

Golf channel showing a bunch of nobody’s, I dont think people want to see fed ex workers along with comcast workers, please show some real golfers, this is a PGA tournament right???

  • Derrek

You are 19 minutes behind on a your “live” coverage, let’s get an update!

  • JohnP

JP, are you also known as lannyH?

  • Nole

hey golf channel, did tiger and phil dropout of the tournament or something?

  • phil denneh

What the Hell? Tried watching the golf channel to see Tiger- they aren’t even following him. Idiots! Whose the Braniac that made that decision?

  • Nole

Golf channel acting like only 4 people are playing the tournament, this has to be the worst coverage of golf i have ever witnessed…. golf channel should be ashamed…

  • greg c

i like how the golf channel heavily advertises tigers debut, and then they dont even follow him

  • CC

Why is ther golf channel doing this……this is absolutely terrible. I have seen enough of Vijay, Dustin, and Ken Duke………I would like to see some of Tiger, Phil, Watney, Fowler and others…..what the heck is going on?!?

  • Moleman

Hi my name is Moleman. I am a huge fan of Tiger.

    Thanks

    Moleman

  • Dan

The reason is that the crew is set up at Pebble and he’s over at Spyglass. I’d like to see more of him to, but that’s the reason. We are not going to see much of guys playing at Spyglass or Monterrey CC.

  • sandbelt

i tried to watch this on tv, i really did.

but, as i thought might happen, i’ve turned it off.

    unwatchable.

  • Andy

Where’s the Tiger? Golf channel please.

  • Nole

Between the pga LIVE updates and the golf channel coverage, I don’t know which one is more pathetic

  • Tim

    Hey JP! Stop saying feed.

  • Hoss

The coverage of TIger on television and this tournament as a whole has been absurd. David Feherty is the most annoying human to ever touch a microphone.

  • Scott

I think this is the greatest coverage the golf channel has ever had.

  • Impatient Viewer

this is the slowest live update i’ve ever seen. it’s just horrible. for those interested in semi-decent live coverage, check out golfweek.com. they are at least 1 hole and half ahead of pgatour.com coverage.
    http://golfweek.com/news/2012/feb/09/tiger-tracker-round-1-pebble/

  • Jim

Why are we not seeing the great players here. How cheap is the golf channell not to show live coverage of Tiger, Phil, etc. that is why this network is awful.

  • Yen

no tiger coverage on TV till saturday it appears…golf channel only covering pebble beach course players…which no one wants to watch

baffling coverage really…hope they get some sense overnight and cover tiger tomorrow….

  • Hoss

Golf Channel has become the whale and rocks watching channel.

  • Nole

There are no fans on the course they are covering… get a clue golf channel

  • Hoss

More fans on my muni on a saturday at 18 then at pebble 18 today

  • Scott

I guess the tiger bum chums will have to beat off to a different golfer today.

  • Jim

All of you Tiger haters need to realize that he is golf!
Just look at the ratings if he is not playing 0.9 rating
When tiger is just playing it jumps to 5.8.
In contention to win its 19.2.
So all of you so called golf people need to admit that Tiger is golf.

  • Doug

Is golf channel a comedy channel?

because this coverage is truly laughable….haha

  • Eldrick

    Love the Cheetah!!

  • Doug

golfweek is doing shot by shot coverage guys…much better than this pga tour websites hole by hole

  • Hoss

Yeah golfweek is much better than pgatour or golf channel – David Feherty could fall into the pacific this weekend and nobody will miss him

  • Brian B

Thanks for fooling us into thinking that some sort of LIVE coverage was on the internet, but, alas, it’s just another stoopid article about eldrick, the cheater, woods. Newsflash TGC, there are real fans out here who follow other players who, BTW, are kicking his toosh week in and week out. Say goodbye, number 1 is a distant memory. There’s all the Senior tour though.

  • Hoss

You’re 100% in the minority Brian B. You probably wouldnt think twice about cheating on that thing you call a wife either.

  • Auld Hornet

Dustin Johnson might as well just get the hell out of South Carolina and buy a house on the Monterey Peninsula.

Ridiculous…an entire field of great players and the folks at PGAtour.com feel the need to track Tiger’s every breath. The Tour is doing itself a huge dis-service.

  • Return of the king

very strong start even he down to 3 under if he can end 4-5 under its a good very strong start, i can see him top 5 here going to be hard to win with Dustin in the field

  • Nole

golf channel showed a total of 10 different players in two and a half hours of coverage, just pathetic…

  • Return of the king

kelprod. 90% of the people watching golf do that becouse of Tiger. He is like what MJ was for basketball. Instead of hold this hate vs the guy just accept this fact about him. And iam shock the tv coverage right now dont fallow him. Its what people want to see they want to see Tiger woods

  • texasgolfer56

sorry, only about 50% watch because of tiger, the other 50% are the ones that watch golf and most likely play golf, the viewership doubles when the disgrace plays, so i just consider the source, when tiger plays and the type of views he brings with him!!!! golf is great with or without tiger!!!!!

  • Nole

    texasgolfer56 your a disgrace…. troll

  • Return of the king

Why is it so hard to admit the popularity of golf today is just becouse of one man. Why isnt that fact clear to everyone in what kind of world are you all living??????

  • JohnP

Tiger is the Lindsey Lohan of the TOUR.

sorry once again wrong, more people started playing golf during the 80′s than any other time. golf was healthy on on it’s way up before the disgrace showed up!!!! tiger was a fad, when the tiger faithful found out how hard golf really is they went back to their couch!!! i have played 2 to 4 rounds a week for the last 30 years and have seen the rise and fall of people that actually play the sport

  • Nole

ok troll, your from texas so i now know not to take you seriously

  • texasgolfer56

and someone has copied my screen name, but we know the difference in the post!!!!

  • JohnP

actually, somebody stole the name “JohnP from me. I didn’t write that about Lindsey Lohan.

BTW, another blog just reported Tiger just hit a wedge 30 yards short.

  • Return of the king

yes texasgolfer that is all true you saying. but it doesnt change the fact that people who enjoy watching golf on tv i would guess 80-90% just prefer watching every shot Tiger has. Even today when he might not be the best player in the world. This is just a fact and you know it but becouse of your hate you cant admit it.

  • JohnP

GolfFanatic.com is reporting Tiger shanked a ball out of bounds and walked off the course in anger.

  • PnhoJ

OK, changing my name from JohnP

  • kelprod

Sorry to disagree, but the Tour is doing itself a huge dis-service by devoting sp much attention to Tiger. The Tour has wonderful product comprised of a large amount of talented & interesting players. The Tour should be focused on them. Tiger is #18 in the world- big deal. The future of the PGA Tour is NOT Tiger Woods and the sooner the Tour figures that out and devotes more time to the younger talent, the better off they will be. The amount of time dedicated to Tiger is a disgrace…he should get coverage deserving of the #18 player in the world….he is far from the #1 player.

  • PnhoJ

I agree with a bunch of you. I love the AT&T because of the Stars, athletes, and music people. Its the one fun tournament to watch. So anyways, it took 12 minutes of before they showed a comedian that used to open for Sinatra.

I love Tiger, despite everything that has happened, but hes not even on the leaderboard and gets more attention than the leaders.

    Funny

  • gail

It’s Lee and Wi, not sure what else you’ll see. If anyone else could be, they’ll need to be set free. Maybe it might be me, for all of you to see, and if that comes to be, it’ll be her that wins, not he!

Well done!! and if you dont like the articles than dont read

  • Scott

Considering these three courses are the shortest courses on tour I would expect a lot of golfers to go low.

  • Scott

Tiger played solid golf until he got to the greens….which seems to becoming a consistent issue for him. He took 29 putts and had a stroked gained putting stat of 0. If he can get the putter working he will be hard to beat.

  • Brian B

As usual all the band wagon golfers are lining up to cheer on the big cheater. Typical of a bunch immoral hacks who don’t know real golf. There’s a whole bunch of new sheriffs in town and any of them can school tigger. Best ride off into the sunset for your next hooker.

  • hao

BRIAN speak up & name them seeing your the one with the mouth! just wondering if you have balls as well?

  • Scott

Tiger is now playing the type of golf that Tiger Lovers have always said they hated…..boring golf. Don’t get me wrong boring golf isn’t bad its actually a good thing. Great golf is meant to look boring….tee to fairway, fairway to green, and green to hole. If tiger lovers think tiger is exciting to watch right now then boy are they going to go crazy with excitement when Luke Donald comes to PGA Tour soil. The golfer who reminds me most of the exciting tiger right now is Rory McIlroy.

  • lucy

I don’t really care about this pig.

  • Joe lewand

does anyone know who is leading this tourn as all the talk is abt tiger. this is so pathetic by the pga and the scribes.

  • Joe lewand

lucy do u mean tiger, i hope so, cause i have hated him for a long time,

  • Edna

If the coverage of the tournament is all about Tiger then you have lost a very devoted fan of the tour. Why is it the pga tour and the media thinlks they need him? Why not support the upcoming and respectable players?
don’t think it is time to move ON????

  • abracadabra

a big part of the eldrick phenomenon is that he “picked his parents” correctly. meaning that corporate america has made it not only acceptable but trendy for a black guy to be a highly successful golfer in an otherwise mostly “white” sport. his rotten “bad boy” attitude contributes even more to this misguided allure. yes, he WAS the world’s supreme talent for many years but if he had been a paleface the media’s fascination would have been much less.

  • Dave V

hao, we’ve certainly had our share of different opinions but, regarding the post by Brian B, i must agree with your comments.

    Brian B, pi$$ off.

  • Ayyaz Sipra.

Tiger is going to win this one going away!!

  • Dave

thats absolutely ridiculous minute-by-minute coverage almost? taking it to new levels.

  • aaaah

I suppose the Minute to Minute update on Tiger Woods will eventually come to the “Tiger Tracker” coming back.

They should have a “Leader Tracker” on the Board so that they person leading in each Tournament, which is the Golfer making the BEST shots, can be shown as he makes his way around the course.

Have you been watching the results of the Omega Dubai to see the Worlds BEST Golfers strut their stuff. Rory MciIroy and Martin Kaymer are leading the way. Lee Westwood is not far behind.

It’s too bad we can’t see more of those European Golfers who are atop of the OWGR. Luke will be back in action soon, so we can see some good golfing again. Until then, all of the USA fans will have to put up with the Tiger garbage about when he will be able to really practice and return to the Tour.

  • hummmm

I seem to detect an air of jealousy in the aaaah comment.

The PGA is only trying to promote their own players. Even Tony Romo has a few followers. It’s not all about TW.

Tiger has been injured for two years and is slowly getting his Re-Hab to a spot when he can compete. Soon he’ll be 100 % healthy and then look out. Get your calculator out and start counting the wins, especially the Majors 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, etc…..

  • Donald

Do I gotta be the guy that says it? Okay! There are numerous threads devoted to the leaders. Post on those. It’s that simple. Lucy is just upset because tiger turned her down. Must be a fatty. Brian B is just jealous because Lucy has a snatch and he doesn’t. And lastly Joe Lewland is just a dumb d-bag and post negative tiger comments on every tiger thread he can find. Sounds like a big waste of lives to me.

  • 007

You can’t get too worked up over the PGA coverage of Tiger Woods. Naturally the PGA wants to promote his return to the Tour, so to speak. Whever Tiger is not playing, the focus will be on Phil Mickelson, who is not doing so good in the early part of this year.

The comment by aaaah about Rory and Martin leading the way in the Omega Dubai Tournament is partly correct. Rory is tied with Thomas Bjorn at minus 13 after two Rounds while Martin is T4 with minus 11. That name Thomas Bjorn rings a bell with me in conjunction with Tiger Woods but I can’t seem to remember why?

If Tiger was playing in the same Tournament with Rory, Martin, etc…with his score of minus 4, he would be tied with Robert Rock and Colin Mongomerie.

I have to take a nap now because I want to be ready for the Minute to Minute showing of one of the best Golfers in the world during the past 15 years.

  • Just Stating A Fact

007 … maybe you are thinking about the World Golf Championships – Accenture Match Play Championship about a year ago. That’s when the injury riddled Woods lost to Bjorn in the 1st Match.

  • Ian

Just Stating a Fact – don’t forget Dubai when Woods was in his prime, Thomas went head to head with the ‘THE MAN’ and defeated him.

  • Joe lewand

    to all yoou tw lovers and the media;
    YOU ARE ALL PATHETIC.
coverage of a golf tourn is to cover all the golfers not just thejerk tw.
it is no wonder most of us wont watch golf til he is gone.
you covered 10 players in 2 1/2 hrs of coverage but showed every single shot of the jerk. did u get the one where he hocked a luggie on the little kid and laughed.

  • 007

    April 10th, 2011 10:42 am

After the final Golfer finished yesterday, I immediately went to my STATS area where I keep track of the Winners in the Four Major Tournaments and I typed in Rory for his First Masters Win with a final score of 270

  • 007

I will have to admit that I thought that the “Three Wise Men” and the Office staff on the PGA Tour would be selecting Tiger Woods at the #1 pick to be viewed on TV next year.

He certainly will be getting a lot of coverage in 2012 and hopefully his return to the PGA Tour will pump some excitement and drive into such Players as Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk, etc…as they lacked a certain drive to get those important wins in 2011.

With Tiger back for a full year I will be able to get my Woods/Mickelson Stats going, so I am looking forward to the New Year.

  • 007

Keegan Bradley should have a good year in 2012. The other Top Golfers will have to keep looking over their shoulder to make sure where he is during the upcoming seaon.

He should be good for at least Two wins

  • 007

The last time I checked on Gary Woodland…he finished T35 in the Dunlop Phoneix Tournament a week or so ago.

It will take a little while for the #1 spot in the OWGR to change. Naturally, Rory McIIroy will get his chance to look down from the top. Adam Scott will also get his #1 badge before an American gets to #1 in the rankings.

When it does happen somewhere down the road look for Matt Kuchar to stand in the spotlight.

None of the former #1 Golfers will make it back to the Top again.

Its nice to hear that Lee Westwood will be joining the PGA Tour in 2012. It was only about 55 weeks ago that he kicked Tiger Woods in the rear “Out of 1st place in the OWGR rankings”. It was like playing a game of “Snakes and Ladders” with Woods slipping out of the Top 50 positions.

I thing the present of Westwood will add a little spice to the Tournaments next year. Its only natural for the European Golfers to want to place on the European Tour, just like the U.S.A. born golfers playing the the PGA Tour.

Outside of the Chevron Tournament next week, things are going to be quite until Santa Claus comes. The only players that should be playing next week are the Golfers who Won Tournaments during the year.

  • 007

Freddie is obviously picking Tiger Woods based on their friendship over the past 15 years. Now Tiger becomes the weak link in the chain because he is not playing good golf for the past two years.

If Tiger was any kind of a Team player then he should tell Freddie that he doesn’t deserve to be on the Team so don’t select me. Maybe next year Tiger can regain some of his greatness and earn a spot on the Ryder Cup and the President’s Cup. But don’t hold your breath on that.

The last two picks should be held back until late in Sept to see how some of the player who are listed # 11 to #15 in the ranking and look at their Golfing trend, whether it is going up or down.

Although Freddie has the last two picks, he made a blunder when he said There is no reason for me to wait till Sept. 26 to pick Tiger,” “He’s the best player in the world forever.”

He was the best player for about 14 years but now he is fading like the Sun setting in the West.

  • 007

I agree with Jim Stats and his recent comments. HAO needs to look at the big picture. Tiger had 14/15 good years on Tour. He can still give out a good game but his #1 position on the PGA Tour is over. The younger guys are taking over, so Tiger can still play but he will have to take a seat somewhere outside of the Top Ten in OWGR rankings.

Tiger will undoubtedly win a Tournament or two but I don’t think he will win another Major. Let’s wait and see what happens in 2012 when he plays against those European “Stars”

  • 007

I doubt if Tiger will ever Win another Major Tournament. Not only is he getting older, but the NEW Young Golfers on the Tour are making it difficult for anyone to Win on any regular basis.

  • 007

Auld Hornet — Your guess is close. It’s something that Tiger has a Basement full off…..Win -less.

  • 007

Red Hot Ralph — your comment on Tiger beating Phil playing left-handed made me laugh…hahahahahaha.

The last time Tiger and Phil played in the same Tournament was the 2011 PGA Championship. For those of you who can’t remember what happened, I’ll tell you???

Phil didn’t win, he finished T19 after FOUR Rounds.

Tiger didn’t win, he finished after TWO Rounds. He didn’t make the CUT….77 and 73 for 150.

Maybe it’s time for Tiger to shoot left-handed, he couldn’t do any worst.

He has been working on a new swing for two years now. You would think that he should have learned how to hit the ball properly by now, without complaining. I hope his health issues will be better by the time he is in his 40s like Phil.

I wonder what kind of a Tournament Tiger will have next week when he plays against the Top Golfers in the World???

  • 007

Schuyler —- Don’t worry about the noteable Groups picked by the panel to watch. I bet the Fowler-Johnson-Mickelson Group will draw the most followers.

I feel sorry for Kyle Stanley losing last week when he Teed-off on the 18th and threw the game away. Hopefully, once he starts on Thurday, he will not let the past become a problem this week. After saying that, I don’t think he is going to win this time.

  • MARK 111

If Chopra can repeat some of his Aces this week, he will be worth watching?

Rickie should be ready for a victory at the Beach this week.

Woods has lost the “Tiger” in himself since his last win 2 1/2 years ago at the BMW Championship, so don’t expect him top the Leaderboard because he is not 100% healthy yet. The best you can expect from “Meow” Woods this week is to see him past Mickelson in the OWGR rankings when the points are given out on Sunday.

  • IAN

Tiger Woods has lost his aura, Robert Rock proved my point in Abu Dhabi and Tiger will struggle to beat an elite field at the majors or WGCs. Nobody is intimidated by him anymore, get over it folks.

  • IAN

noddy – you’re a fool, keep make making up excuses for him because that’s all he seems to use for himself nowadays, that’s what he did when he lost to Robert Rock in Abu Dhabi.

You want some future stars – Rory McIlroy, Jason Day, Rickie Fowler, Martin Kaymer, Matteo Mana$$ero, Tom Lewis, Noh Seung Yul, Ryo Ishikawa and now Kyle Stanley.

  • Ian

To all you Tiger Woods lovers out there – it’s only a matter of time before Rory McIlroy is the world #1 and a multable major champion. Rory will be the best for the next 10 – 15 years notching-up major by major as he goes along, it’s time to move on from your beloved hero, he’ll never be as great as he once was.

  • Tim

    @Donald
Best post I’ve read in a long time! Well put.

  • noddy

RORY HAS TO GET THE JOB DONE IN DUBAI FIRST{he has been known to choke you know} this is a good test for him.

  • Ian

And then come back from adversity (‘choke’) and win a major 2 months later in stunning style. It take someone special to do that, you know.

  • noddy

I couldn’t find tigers name in that u/s open field. btw I hope tiger never defeats Mcilroy as you’d have to explain to your kids how some old washed up grandfather took down the mighty rory while only playing at 50% of his previous best..that could be embarrasing.

  • Sean Smith

Yet again the Field on the European Tour is far stronger than the field you guys have over there on the PGA Tour.

Where is “gail”? I would like to have a discussion with her on this matter and would like to know her “excuse” and way of saying the Pebble Beach Field is stronger even though world number 2,3 and 4 are right near the top of the Leaderboard in Dubai.

  • Sean Smith

@ noddy – I gather from your comments you are a Tiger Woods fanboy.

Have you already forgotten what happened Sunday in Abu Dhabi just 2 short weeks ago?

Rounds 1,2 and 3 Tiger Woods averaged 10 fairways and 16 greens per round. On Sunday Tiger hit a fine 4 fairways and 6 greens in regulation. This was the biggest decline I have EVER seen in a player’s game from one round to the next. Woods shot a flawless 6 under par 66 on Saturday then scrambled like hell the next round for a even par 72.

  • Sean Smith

Tiger Woods wasn’t in any of Paddy Harrington’s 3 Major Championship Victories.

Do you think people are undermining these great wins that are down in the record books right now and will remain there forever or undermining Rory’s unbelievable 8 shot win in YOUR US Open just because Tiger Woods wasn’t playing? It isn’t Rory’s fault Woods was injured.

Was Tiger Woods in the field in Abu Dhabi when Rory Mcilroy played with him the first 3 rounds and ended up finishing 2nd to Woods’ 4th? I do believe he was…

  • Sean Smith

@ IAN – Martin Kaymer a future star?

He is ALREADY a star! He has been on the European Tour since 2007 and already notched up 10 European Tour victories and 2 PGA Tour Titles including a Major and a World Golf Championship. He will go on to claim at least 5 Major titles. Rory Mcilroy will go on to claim at least 10.

I agree with you on Kyle Stanley, Noh Seung-Yul etc but Rickie Fowler? He may win 1 Major 1 day but his swing isn’t compact and could break down under pressure as it usually does.

  • Scott

I heard rumors tiger will be wearing a green shirt today…can anyone confirm or deny this rumor

  • Sean Smith

What are your American’s views on the European Tour field being stronger than the PGA Tour field yet again? This is starting to become a common thing…

  • huh?

Danny Lee is currently 10 under par, Dustin Johnson, America’s best player under the age of 30 shot a flawless 9 under par round, even Charlie Wi shot a great round of 61 at MP in round 1. Tiger Woods is 6 strokes back after a battling 68 which had bogeys in it and gets a mention? When will people realise Tiger had his decade of dominance and now it’s Rory’s turn to shine.

  • Sir Shaun

Hao.. you keep asking for some “furture stars.” I’ve taken time to drawn up a short-list of 20, tell me what you think.

    1. Rory McIlroy, NIR
    2. Martin Kaymer, GER
    3. Charl Scwartzel, RSA
    4. Jason Day, AUS
    5. Dustin Johnson, USA
    6. Louis Oosthuizen, RSA
    7. Webb Simpson, USA
    8. Alvaro Quiros, ESP
    9. Rickie Fowler, USA
    10.KT Kim, KOR
    11.Matteo Mana$$ero, ITA
    12.Ryo Ishikawa, JPN
    13.Kyle Stanley, USA
    14.Tom Lewis, ENG
    15.Thorbjorn Olesen, DEN
    16.Bud Cauley, USA
    17.Noh Seung-yul, KOR
    18.Romain Wattel, FRA
    19.Patrick Canley, USA
20.Scott Jamieson, SCO ( little bias, had to get a Scotsman in their)

As you can see, all of these players are from different part’s of the World.

If anyone else want’s share their view’s on this subject.. please do so.

  • 007

I didn’t realize that my words from last year would prompt someone to Copy and Paste me so often.

I usually write the truth and I can only say that someone must like reading the truth over and over again.

Maybe I should write some other “pearls” of wisdom for the next generation or at least the next Topic.

    Stay tuned….

  • Sean Smith

hi Sir Shaun, I agree with your top 20 for the most part. I would also have Mcilroy top of course and not sure Kaymer is a future star as he already has 10 European tour wins and 2 PGA Tour wins including a Major and WGC, he is already a star really =\. I would have had Noh-Seung-Yul (my pick for PGA Tour ROY) in top 10 and Patrick Cantlay around 15th. I would have Tom Lewis in top 8, Dustin Johnson above Jason Day and Quiros higher than Webb Simpson. I have to agree with all your other predictions though they are all very talented young players. I agree Scott Jamieson could have easily been European Tour ROY in 2011 had Tom Lewis not won an event. Looks like next very good Scottish player. Going well this week in Dubai.

  • Sean Smith

I would also have Kyle Stanley higher than Rickie Fowler now I see it again. He has a much more solid swing than Fowler that is less likely to break down under pressure. Rickie really needs a PGA win this year to get that monkey off his back and the media off his back.

  • Sir Shaun

Hi Sean.. the players were a mixture of “future stars” and star’s of today, Martin Kaymer is definitely both. Oh, and outside the Top 2 or 5 is in no particular order.

  • Sean Smith

oh okay i see. Yeah Kaymer will definately win more in the future. He had a nice hole in 1 today on the 7th.

  • 007

Sir Shaun — I like your list of the 20 Top to watch in the future. Naturally, some are already “Stars” and will only get better,

In the case of Tiger Woods and the insistance of the PGA that he is a renewed Golfer…would that classify him as a NEW Player and should be in your list.

  • Sean Smith

Where is gail when I want to discuss how the European Tour field is stronger than the PGA Tour field? She was banging on about it all last year saying the European Tour is weak. Not any more it isnt. The top 4 players in the world are members of the European Tour. The European Tour field being stronger than the PGA Tour field is starting to become a very common thing. She is never anywhere to be seen when I am wanting to talk about this.

  • Sir Shaun

Sean.. Martin Kaymer’s hole-in-one was WORLD CLA$$.. It took 1 bounce, rolled 5 feet and went in at the perfect speed. I couldn’t believe that was his first ever for the player of his quality.

  • 007

Sir Shaun — I like your list of the 20 Top to watch in the future. Naturally, some are already “Stars” and will only get better,

In the case of Tiger Woods and the insistance of the PGA that he is a renewed Golfer…would that cla$$ify him as a NEW Player and should be in your list.

  • SIR SHAUN

Hao.. It was a mixture of “future star’s” and star of today that will certainly still be star’s in the future, they were all under the age of 30 and in no particular order outside the Top 4 or 5.. you could also add Danny Lee to the list.. It look’s like I’m the only 1 of a few that has the bottle to name names for you Hao.

I love Westwood but you cla$$ him as having mental strenth when he hasn’t won a Major(YET!) and McIlroy has, Rory showed what he was made of when he won the US Open.. It seems to me like your a little scared of what McIlroy is capable of doing in the near future.(upstaging your hero Woods)

  • Sir Shaun

In my opinion, a player that is cla$$ified as a “future star” has got to be under the age of 30.. all the player’s on the list I compiled are.

  • Jim Stats

    007.
    A few clarifications.

I don’t think I’ve said he won’t be in the top 10 in the OWGR. I actually believe he will at one point, even this year. He is too good not to.

What I say is that, by the numbers, he has a mathematical chance of becoming #1 this year. But for him to achieve that, it requires a series of events that I don’t think will happen:
    * Rory, Luke, Westwood and Kaymer to win almost no points.
    * For Tiger to win over 6 times this year.

I fully appreciate what Tiger has done in the past, but here we’re not talking about the past anymore, but what needs to happen in the future. And as you all know, the future is unpredictable.

  • 007

Sir Shaun — OK !!! I just wanted to find out the parameters of “Future Stars”?

I mentioned Tiger Woods and his Re-newal game and possible career. I thought you would say NO to TB as a candidate for this list because he was the “Shining” Star for some 15 years.

Due to your age restriction at 30, then this would leave Robert Rock (born 6 April 1977) off your list as a possible “Future Star”. He just put his name high on the List of Who is He” when he won last week, beating some of the best Golfers in the world. Maybe it was just a “one time” win for him, BUT what would you do if he suddenly won a few Tournaments and he jumped up in the Golfing World in the OWGR???

If a Golfer was never listed as a “Star” then any surge to the Top 10 in the OWGR should be cla$$ified as a “Future Star”???

  • 007

Jim Stats – Your clarification on the matter of Tiger Woods and his race to the Top of the OWGR is noted.

I am not sure exactly what was said about his future surge to the Top except to say that you were just presenting some figures that would have to be attained by him (All Wins) and Luke not getting anything.

Anyway, the fantasy part is all over…he got stoned in Abu Dhabi by a ROCK and things don’t look to good for him this week at Pebble Beach.

As I said before, it’s time for the GPS girl to say, “Recalculating”…..

I believe Tiger will reach the #10 spot in the OWGR in 2013, but NOT #1.
