Woods unable to capitalize on Monterey

Interview: Tiger Woods

Following his second-round 68, Tiger Woods talks to Fred Albers from SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio about his play in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.

By Brian Wacker, PGATOUR.COM

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — For the second straight day, Tiger Woods shot 68 — albeit this time on the par-70 Monterey Peninsula Country Club. And for a second straight day he put his ball in positions he wasn’t able to capitalize on.

Woods had just four birdies and two bogeys on the easiest course in the rotation. He also had 33 putts. A handful of those were misses from inside 10 feet.

“I was hitting the ball in the wrong spots,” said Woods, who is tied for 17th at 6 under after two rounds. “And the greens started to get a little bumpy with the softer conditions.”

Woods was referring to the impact the weather had with heavy mist and chilly temperatures enveloping the property late in the day — a stark contrast to the pristine conditions Woods began his round in.

Through the first seven holes, Woods had three birdies. He had just one over the final 12 holes.

Woods also injured himself when he stuck his iron shot in the ground on a shot on the eighth hole. It didn’t appear to be serious or to hamper Woods, but he said, “It hurt like hell when I did it.”

What might hurt more is the fact that Woods is six shots back heading into the weekend.

Woods will play Pebble Beach on Saturday, where he’s had some of his fondest memories. But he also knows there’s a lot of ground to make up with some of the players ahead of him on the leaderboard set to play Monterey Peninsula in the third round.

“I’m going to have to shoot a low one [Saturday] to give myself a chance,” Woods said.

    Brian,
    Did you mean ” mist ” ?

  • lucy

    Pig will never win again.

  • Sherry

To the pig who made that comment. Why are you commenting or watching him if you hate him? Go get a life and actaually contribute to society instead of spreading meaningless hate.

  • MIKE MILLER

Uh oh, Woods “injured” himself. Look for that to be an excuse for him to withdraw when he starts playing poorly again in the weekend.

  • sandbelt

@ chicken…Although you beat me by 4 shots today I promise not to eat any of your children for breakfast tomorrow. Well…maybe just 1,sorry dear.

  • Sherry

I may eat like a pig, bath like a pig,and even snort like one. But I will never..ever..smell like one.

  • bertdeuce

29 on the back 9 for Mickelson, eh?

To quote the great Bill Murray from an all time classic:

    “Does Phil feel Lucky”?

hint: its a rather timely coincidence…

  • Kim Adele Hastert

TWEET, TWEET !!! Here’s to more birdies on MOVING day.
PS I have 30+ awesome letters headed your way from “my” high schoolers who think you are GREAT !!! One of them made a coffee cup in 6th grade in art class of your likeness. :) how cute is that?

  • Carl B.

I wouldn’t object to the boot-licking coverage of this guy is he was cresting the leaderboard, but he’s not even in the top 10. Oh, and did I forget to mention the $25,000,000 Woods “donated” to the PGA? Gee, I wonder why he would do that?

  • Kim Adele Hastert

It would be nice to see some articles about golfers other than Tiger, maybe some more about Harrington and Mickelson? They have 7 majors between them after all and outscored him so far.

  • .

Lucy you are a swine yourself, perhaps 50 lbs overweight, to boot. How ridiculous to come on this site and start dengrating some player. Are you better than he is? This is a golf site. If you want to play Kindergarten Cop, go to TTTTMMMMZZZ.

  • .

Someone posted my name ( a dot) before mine. I did not request posting by someone other than Tiger Woods. My post is from 8:19PM to Overweight swine Lucy.

  • Kitty

Harrington was a short, albeit a nice change of pace for 2 years, and Phil is past his prime. TW is getting everything back on track..Rome was not built in a day, kindergarteners.

  • Donald

Like I said earlier, Lucy is just mad tiger turned her fat a$$ down. It’s never a good thing when you have to roll ‘em in flour to find the wet spot.

  • Mark

Nice comeback by Phil Today a very nice -5 under round of 65. This Tournament still hasn’t formed yet. It will form after 54 holes are completed with tomorrow’s 3rd round. Take Spy Glass Hill thus Far. Dustin Johnson went from shootig -10 under on Pebble Beach to +1 over on his Round today at Spy Glass for -9. Danny Lee went from Shooting- 10 under in round 1 on Pebble Beach to shooting + 2 Over on Spy Glass Today. Tomorrow Spy Glass will get Tournament Leader Charlie Wi and Knock him down to earth with the rest of the mere mortals. Tiger and Phil should be looking at Dustin Johnson as the Real Tournament Leader at -9 under in IMO. Phil is only 2 shots back of him and Tiger is only 3 shots back of him. I think Charlie Wi will Stumple on Saturday over at the Tough Spy Glass Hill. This Tournament will form only after all players have played all 3 Courses by Saturday Evening. That will be the Real Leaderboard going in the the Final Round on Sunday which will be the 1st time all week all the players who made the cut will play apples to apples on the same Golf Course and the sprint to the finish will be on.

I still think the Winner of this Tournament will either be Dustin, Phil or Tiger.

  • truth

Kitty you have no idea, its amazing to me that some people on here seem to have all these players figured out, shut all your faces cause you dont know a thing!

  • binreys lukjuit

way to tell it like it is lucy. the pig groid will nevr win again. the idiot tont bootlickers get all butthurt when anyone doesn’t worship the pig like they do.

  • binreys lukjuit

    Kim

jesus spelled backwards sounds like “sausage”

  • Donald

Binreys sukdik. However you pronounce it….. If you truly believe that then I feel sorry for you. Not to offend all the golf fans actually posting stuff that’s well thought out but saying “the pig will never win again” is equivalent to saying rory will never win again or kaymer will never win again or Simpson will never win again or Stanley will never win again or Phil will never win again or Donald will never win again or westy will never win again etc, etc, etc. Did I help you understand how incredibly stupid you sound? If not then there is no hope for you. I really wish I could just read an article and then read the thread and get everyone else’s perspective and insight but when it’s 90 percent crap, it’s really disappointing. Please stop.

  • Kim Adele Hastert

true story binreys…. and if you where here I’d make you some egg, potatoe, cheese breakfast burros that would make your knees melt. :) have a great day.
PS I AM VERY spiritual, but not religious.

  • Scott

Kim Adele Hastert – I love to hate tiger bum chums

  • Kim Adele Hastert

Binrey… just curious, who are you blaming for your inadequacies ?? your parents, an ex, circumstance??? Get over it and come to the lighter side of life. :) stop hating & start loving. :)

  • Kim Adele Hastert

Sorry to hear that you allow ANY hate into your life Scott. Best wishes.

  • Donald

Good job taking the high road Kim! I just couldn’t do it, I tried but failed. By the way I am from Oklahoma and we have a large mexican base here with a big market for Mexican and southwestern style baja foods. I am sure that other parts of the country do as well but the reason I ask is what’s the difference between a burro and a burrito. Seriously, are they the same thing and it’s just slang or what?

  • Kim Adele Hastert

    Howdy Donald,
A burro means big and any thing in Spanish with “ito” at the end means little or smaller. So burrito is a smaller version of a burro. :) Let’s all connect with Youtube & listen to IMAGINE so we can all get into a happy mind set. :) You in? Have a GREAT weekend. GO TIGER!!! Giddy UP the leader board.

  • Donald

I’m sorry if I offended anyone. I got defensive and reckless with my posts. I apologize.

  • Elin

i miss him so much, but will settle for his money and a chicken

  • Kim Adele Hastert

    Think happy thoughts Donald.

  • Donald

Thanks Kim, next time I guess I’m ordering a burro instead of a burrito.

  • Donald

I can’t wait until tomorrow! I had to work the last two days and the wife controls the dvr so tomorrow I get to watch some hopefully great golf!

  • Kim Adele Hastert

Enjoy the golf for me. I’ll be watching the scores on PGAtour.com no tv here. :(
GO BIG OR GO HOME…. one of my favorite mottos.

  • Christine

Wow. There are a lot of angry, resentful, sorry excuses for human beings commenting here. Feel sorry for all of you. You know who you are.

  • Bradford

The one thing I can’t reconcile is why america at large is so appalled by the infidelity and “scandal” of TW but yet much of our society is so ready and willing to sweep the same actions under the rug when it comes from someone in another sport. I mean take, for instance, your average NFL or NBA franchise. Have you looked at the records of a lot of the guys in those locker rooms? -Less than upstanding- It seems to me that we have a double standard. Thoughts?

  • Jason

Kim adele, this isn’t a Christian, spiritual healing , warm and fuzzy, give peace a chance forum. If u don’t like other peoples comments go and cry on tigers shoulder, idiot.

  • Kenneth

    I hope he retires soon…what a bum

  • Jim

Tiger Woods is largely responsible for elevating the popularity of golf to where it is today. He gets lopsided coverage because he has been phenomenal and still has the largest following of any pro golfer. Look at the ratings boosts when he plays. He made mistakes in his personal life and even with occasional inappropriate conduct on the course; however, let’s move on. A resurgent Tiger would not only be good for the game, but also for my personal enjoyment of a record setting fine athlete. Go Tiger. Seize many days in your future.

  • Bradford

Well said Jim. Well said. People just need to look at him for what he is: A great golfer. We have this romanticized view of our athletes in america. We try to make them into role models. This totally misses the point.

  • Scott

blah blah blah blah blah….please come up with something new….its the same old stuff by the Tiger Bum Chums.

  • golf fan

Right On Scott!!!!I was watching the GOLF CHANNEL and they kept on saying Tiger this and Tiger that; however they forgot to mention that Phil the Thrill is on first page of the leaderboard after looking like Phil might miss the cut.It just shows money talks.Just my opinion folks

  • Scott

Jim – A resurgent Tiger is good for Tiger and those that make money off of the game. The GAME OF GOLF was fine before Tiger, was fine during Tiger and will be fine after Tiger. The game of golf does not need tiger but without the game of golf there is no tiger.

  • golf fan

To Christine and others…..When we throw mud and dirt on someone it is us who loses ground.Just my opinion, folks.

  • DAC

Scott- you are the one with the same old stuff all the time!Blah Blah Blah yourself and look in the mirror. You and Lucy would make a good couple!

  • DOB

despite all of that, tiger will still come out in the top 3 if he doesn’t win… imagine that

  • DOB

did anyone care to look at the crowds on the european tour this week compared to when tiger was there 2 weeks back? how can golf not need tiger? do you know how much money they make off him playing in a tournament?

  • The Loose impediment

    So DOB.

You watch Golf to watch the galleries or to watch good shots?

Do you make any more money when TV coverage is 95% Tiger Woods?

Would you have preferred to watch Tiger 2 putt for par, or someone putting in the cup from the fairway for Eagle?

  • The Loose impediment

This “injury” will be pretty convenient in the future.

Did he hit a tree root or something?

  • Allen

I don’t why the PGA Tour website allows comments on this website – nearly everyone who has contributed has nothing of any interest to say and seem to more intent on personal abuse at either players or each other. I thought golf fans were smart but this chain of comments suggests otherwise. A bad look all around and you all be ashamed.

  • The Authority

There is no injury, just more of the Mike Millers of the world (who, by the way, never respond when you call them out on things – tells you what kind of trash we are dealing with and its all just out of jealousy of Tiger. Jealousy and envy are such a cruel thing. Also, this lie about some kind of 25M donation to the PGA that someone wrote. I mean, do you think anyone ACTUALLY believes that? So, was it the PGA that Tiger donated this amount of money to..or the PGA Tour…and why would he need to do that? ROFLMAO!!! If anyone is giving money under the table or over it, it would be TOURS giving money to Tiger, not the other way around! ROFL. God, some people are so far out there.

  • The Authority

Loose impediment – there is no injury. Why dont you get the facts before you start spinning your web of lies?? See how good your information is? Do you see the quality of it? Do you see how you take an untruth and then spin your own little world of tales based on something that never even happened?! Also, Loose Brains, the point about TV coverage is that the TOUR needs Tiger more than Tiger needs the Tour. The PGA Tour generates about 50% of its income from Tiger Woods alone. That is not a misprint, mistake, type or anything else. If Tiger took a press conference before the TOURs next negotiations with the television networks and said he was leaving the PGA TOUR for the Euorpean Tour, the European Tour would suddenly be bringing in more money than the PGA Tour. FACT. The numbers were already ran. What does that tell you people? You can care all you want about these other players that you want to see, and they do show them. They have barely shown Tiger at all the first two days because he wasn’t on pebble. And they show him because guess what?! THAT IS WHO PEOPLE WANT TO SEE. Disagree? How can you disagree with the fact that when Tiger Woods is on the screen the number of people watching that channel goes up, and when he is not on the screen, the number of people watching goes down.

In fact, did you know they have these magic gadjets that shows them the ratings and the real time fluctuations in them and can correlate them to who is on the screen and what is happening to figure out what it is people want to see? Not that they need that. They simply need to look at the ratings at the end of the week. Tiger in the field (Regardless of how he plays): HIGH RATINGS, MONEY FOR EVERYONE ELSE. UNDERSTAND THE ELSE PART. Tiger doesn’t get more money for higher ratings, but everyone else that is involved in the golf industry does. So to answer your question, yes, the more Tiger is on the television, the more money a lot of people make. Guess you weren’t expecting that one to figre back at you, were you?

  • dorso

DOB im with you mate,if Tiger wasnt playing it would be boring as bat S@!t,and i love the game, but i dont really want to watch Johnson Wagner or Jonathan Byrd, they really dont excite me.As for comments on crowds,to say “do you watch the galleries”Golf still needs viewers when there is alot of competition around, why the Fed Ex cup,to create more excitememnt for viewers when the NFL is on,becasue it is a competitive market and the sports are competing with each other.Ask Tim Finchem if wants Tiger in the field, its a NO BRAINER.

  • dorso

Also are you really seriuos about Tiger using an injury as an excuse. Are you talking about his knee injury?Do you really think a guy who is as competitive as he is chasing Jacks record wanted to have 8 months off after winning the 08 US Open.Really?Have you ever been a competitor in anything? you want to be out there, that comment makes no sense either, you are just hating loose impediment.

  • Gregor

Personally I am Phil fan and am disappointed when he doesn’t play or when he doesn’t do well. but I don’t expect him to win all the time. As for Tiger I get sick and tired of hearing Tiger this and Tiger that but its just part of his past performance. He hasn’t won since his big problem but when he does it will be big. Until then lest hear more about the winners and the top ten. Go Phil kick Tigers butt!!

  • hao

HOPE MCILROY COMES THRU TOMORROW; he certainly didn’t look like this great superstar most people are predicting… he can’t afford anymore crashes on his resume. hate to see it effect his love live as well… If he can’t perform under pressure maybe caroline will be taking a look at tiger. he’s single and there were good reports about his performances outside the course. he is very lucky westwood can’t putt or this tourny would be over. cheers

  • david

i like tiger and have followed him for years but lets face it he will never b as good as he once was.there r too many better golfers playing now than when he was in his prime such as rory.donald, westy an kaymer

  • hao

what r/u ba$$ing that on abu dhabi; I suggest you go back and check the leaderboard as thats the last tourny they played together, please feel free to get back to me david.

  • david

i watched every round at abu dhabi i was sure tiger would win come sunday.i ope i am wrong but he may have lost his killer instinct when the pressure is on.rory played bad today but still in with a good chance his first 2 round was the best golf i have seen for along time.

  • hao

SHAUN..DAVE..JASON.. I can understand why tiger couldn’t take down rock!! the guy is 36 yrs and nearing the end of his career and nowhere near his best obviously. but can you please explain why this next great superstar RORY after leading the first day failed to do so, even after 3 days he was within 2 strokes of robert should have been close enough to get the job done.hoey gave him a start and beating at st andrews over last 9 holes, he led at dubai and got run over, near lead in hsbc that kaymer won and failed.he led the tourny in dubai that quiros won $2 fav after 2 rounds and choked {same tourn next week} then the biggest choke of them all the masters, led by 4 strokes and shot 82 final round. on the positive side won the u/s open. Iam realy trying to understand where you guys are comming from? but it’s difficult.

  • hao

Mcilroy will never be known as the best: the 4 shot lead & MORE IMPORTANTLY 82 final round will never leave him. that being said lets give him 20 majors… whats the cv say; he beat the past his prime old tiger woods {as many have stated} but wait lets leave tiger out of the equasion and look at the rest of the opposition, keegs ricky spider day ishy cauley sneds manaserro bubba kim bae mahan. surely you don’t want yo name watney or justin after there failures allready.I clearly remember about 5 years ago everyone was wondering how many majors scott would win I’LL leave it up to you guys to look that one up. now that we have established the so called super players comming thru can anyone match up the past rivalrys of tigers; els phil vj paddy sergio westy goose choi cabrera ect ect with rorys present and future youg guns.I know its a little hypothetical but give it a try . or you could try jacks opposition to rorys it just might stop a few critics from getting ahead of themselves.cheer
